Mosaic Restaurant and Lounge- San Jose
Entrees were on the pricey side. It looks like it might be better to go with noodles and small plates and we might try that next time. Wine list was limited but looked like beers had a much better selection.
I've tried Mosaic in the past for business lunches and they were adequate.
I took family there for dinner this week and was very disappointed. The filet was done okay as were the scallops, but then it is quite easy to prepare those dishes.
My miso-ginger salmon was overcooked, tasteless and the accompaniments were soggy.
The lobster-garlic noodles were awful, the noodle were so overcooked a baby could have gummed them, no texture at all. Perhaps the chef had a bad night but there was no taste at all in the dish, let alone layers of flavor that I would have expected.
For a lunch place, acceptable but for dinner they are not ready for primetime.
Nice atmosphere, food was outstanding, and Tim our waiter was spot on with his food recommendations as well as his drink s. 5 star easy
Very food, creative food items. As a foodie, I always look for different taste sensations. My wife commented that it was the best salmon dish she has had....not expected. The wait staff was excellent. Our waiter was attentive, humorous, made us feel like we were regulars in his approach and style.....he made it a special experience. We used a Groupon which provided great value, but I would consider going without the extra incentive....it was that good an experience.
Mosaic old-fashion is one of the best. Very smooth with a hint of bitterness and sweetness.
We had bought two Groupons to use just for dinner tonight but we were told AFTER we had finished dinner that we could not use it tonight and had to pay a very hefty price due dinner which we were not able to afford. The inky reason we had come here was because of the Groupon deal, but no where was it mentioned that we could not use it tonight
Ask for tim, hez the best, does suggest the menu based on our palate. Very friendly staff. Apt for families too. Reasonable price, quality of food is goodand they give a good quantity of food too. 👍👍
The food was well prepared and tasted great. Service was very good. I would put the price at $$ instead of $.
We didn’t pre book anything fir Xmas. After calling and visiting several other restaurants, the Fairmont recommended Mossic.
The location inside the Four Points is a bit deceiving. It’s quite a nice restaurant.
Below average food, could have microwaved frozen Chinese food. Too expensive for quality of food.
We always have excellent service and the menu always gives us great options. Everything is full of flavor and so we keep coming back!
We reserved for dinner before a concert, but the Happy hour was going on at the time, so we decided to go for it instead. The drinks were good, as well as the appetizers, but I wish the appetizers were steamimg hot. Taste was pretty good, but not excellent.
We sat on one of the tables at the bar area, and every time someone opened the doors to the restaurant, we would get a cold breeze, so that was the part we liked the least. I wished they would close that entrance when it's cold outside, and use the hotel entrance instead.
I would like to try their dinner menu next time we go to San Jose.
Our group of 8 really enjoyed our dinner and Matthew got us on our way in time for us to be seated for our concert. Great place.
overpriced food, nothing to come back for. Dessert was stale, only dish worth offering was Mongolian Stir Fry
This was truly a terrible place. They have a happy hour special but mostly fried things; beer might be a good buy. The dinner was inedible. I had very expensive sea bass that tasted fishy and bad. We also had a noodle dish that was terrible. Okay were the caesar salad (although they gave me the small serving size by mistake and then brought me another small one when I pointed it out--and we were charged for the large -- wine tasted odd. Overall, avoid this place!
This was a repeat visit on a Groupon and the food was great and very tasty. Good portion sizes and a pleasant server, we will definitely return again
The most expensive bad meal we have had in years
The waiter was either manic or drugged: if we were at his level, we would have been in and out in 15 minutes.
I ordered a sea bass in smoked ginger glaze. No glaze was apparent or tasted, but most importantly, the sea bass was mushy, like frozen fish that is old and improperly stored. It was not edible and returned. In it’s place I ordered tempura shrimp and lobster. It was not tempura, but deep fried. Everything was relatively tasteless and very greasy. I could not distinguish the lobster from the zucchini by taste. This item was $37!
The waiter indicated he would “take care” of us because of my displeasure with the sea bass. He did not take care of anything and was so wired as to not be able to attend to his job.
The bill for 3 people was $210!!!. The 2 other entrees were mediocre at best. This was an expensive and very poor dining experience.
I would strongly recommend that Mosaic Restaurant be avoided. There are mediocre restaurants in San Jose that provide far better food and service. If you have $200 to spend for 3 people, avoid Mosaic. Any other restaurant would be better; the Subway around the corner would have been a better choice. We eat out 2-3 times every week. I have dined in restaurants throughout the United States and Europe. Based on the cost, quality of food, and wait staff, this was the worst experience I can remember.
Good service and good food, but a bit noisy on Saturday night.
We will definitely come again. Food was excellent. Waiter was fun and very good.
Food was delicious and the service was outstanding!
We had a choice of three starters for one diner, and a starter and entree for another. Our server, Eric, was very attentive and helpful; he gave sound advice on what dishes should come out first and how much it would all be. He checked in, but wasn't hovering. The food was delivered promptly, and when one dish was delayed, Eric came over and explained why and apologized profusely. We chose an IPA and the Earthquake Zinfandel to go with the meal, and they were good choices: flavorful and satisfying. Of the three starters, the pork belly buns were were plentiful (ooohhh, THAT much?! Oooops.) and rich. The soft shell crab was delicious and came with a just-right-not-too-spicy sauce. The calamari were also plentiful, so be forewarned and don't order three starters as a meal! They came with green peppers and onions and were done well. An excellent choice was the blacken Ahi (I keep wondering if that should be "blackened", but it says blacken in the menu), accompanied by soy sauce, ginger and seaweed. I wasn't much of a friend of the seaweed consistency (gel-ly); I had expected the dry kind, I guess, like in sushi, but the tuna was to die for. Best choice: the scallops on vegetable mash. Mmmmmhhhhhh. Full of aroma and cooked just right, translucent and light. All in all, a very good dining experience with excellent servers and staff!
As always, we thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at Mosaic. Food is very good and our waiter
Tim entertaining and helpful . FOUR THUMBS UP!!!
What a FANTASTIC Dinner!
Our special occasion was 3 generations going to see Ringo Starr...our dinner at Mosaic was the cherry on top!
Just another delicious meal in a friendly place in Downtown San Jose. Basically since getting shafted at Grill on the Alley and making this the go-to spot, my life has become more fulfilling and birds land on my shoulders and whisper encouragement from the gods...
Thanks Tim & Christina!
This was an amazing experience our server tim was amazing and so knowledgeable on the menu !
Our servers, Tim and Jessy were absolutely amazing. They made our dining experience memorable and created such a fun environment. Our food was amazing. The presentation along with portions and overall taste was out of this world. We also indulged in a couple cocktails which brought the whole evening together. I’ll recommend this place to anyone who wants to share an amazing evening with that special person.
Tim handled all 23 of us on his own and was very energetic and organized. Enjoyed the setting having a semi private area, the service was good, and the food was delicious. The shrimp appetizer was probably my favorite.
This restaurant was a little pricey but worth every penny, especially with a Groupon. The food was delicious and the service was excellent thanks to our very memorable waiter, Tim. The bar was crowded since it was happy hour, but the restaurant was mostly empty since we booked an early dinner (5pm). The ambiance was nothing too special. We sat by the floor to ceiling windows looking out at a tram stop and doing a bit of people-watching. I would definitely go here again for a special occasion or to impress a date!
Some dish are too salty.
Nice, upscale Chinese restaurant with a hint of Asian fusion. A bit pricey though. But the quality of the food and ingredients above more authentic Chinese restaurants. Available Groupon deals can offset the cost though.
Tasty and eclectic menu. Restaurant is located in but not affiliated with the Four Point Sheraton. Went there prior to a show at City National Civic and enjoyed it throughly. Decent wine list with knowledgeable wait staff whose service is excellent. Highly recommend it as a dining option in downtown San Jose.
Good meal. Service was quick and efficient. Menu is a mix of Asian style and American cuisine. Pork belly buns were good. Meat was tender. Calamari portion was a good portion, but not particularly favorable. Overall it was a good experience.
We have been to mosaic 2 times now and we have had a great experience both times. Our server Tim last Thursday night was very attentive and cognasant of all of his guests and what tables needed tending to. We brought some friends n as a surprise and low and behold they had been there. Great experience, great food, and great fun. Keep up the good work. We will be back soon. Have a wonderful weekend.
Our waiter was excellent, food was great
Fun get together with friends, easy to carry on a conversation!
The bar music was too loud for the dining room, which made it hard to talk to our table mates. Food was very healthy and fresh. We questioned the Creme Brulee, it was a gray green color, tasted ok, but I would never want another order looking like that. Our waiter was a little bit much, even sat down using another table's chair, and thrusted himself into our conversation.
Came here on a Sunday and it was quiet. Just what I needed. Some quiet time. My husband and I got couple good drinks. I got the Chinese lady and lychee drink
We came here early on a Friday evening before a concert at the civic theater. They had great happy hour and live music. The service was friendly, Matt was his name. The food was great! We ordered the ginger sea bass, Mongolian rib eye and garlic noodles. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted great! A pleasant surprise and we will definitely be back!
Asian fusion food is excellent. I especially like the Chilean Sea Bass dish.
Did not enjoy this place at all. My salad was not fresh, the greens were at least a day old. Also, tuna on my salad didn’t look like it was ok to eat. The pomegranate drink was way too sweet. The chicken was a joke, asparagus was the only thing that was edible. The server was nice and did his best. Sorry, but it’s a one star restaurant.
I came here on a Saturday night before a show and they were very busy so the service was a bit lacking and we ended up cancelling our rice order after realizing how long it was taking to arrive. I will definitely go back again but maybe at a different, less busy hour so that I can try a few of the other items on the menu. I got the chicken and loved it. Miso soup was tasty. The cocktails were great too. Will definitely go back.
