My date and I sat on the porch for dinner. Food was good, but the table did not have room for more than two dishes at a time. Rather than taking this into account when bringing out our food, we were given all tapas at once and awkwardly expected to finish one as fast as possible while the server stood there waiting to put the next dish down. Better planning by the kitchen would have made our experience 100x better.
Great mix of Provence classics with completely new Tapas dishes!
We ate outside in the courtyard. It was lovely and the food was divine. Try the French Poptart cocktail, watermelon salad, and shrimp pesto linguini.
Overall the dining experience was very enjoyable and I will definitely return and recommend to friends. The presentation of the beef kebabs needs a lot of work; two four inch cylindrical dark objects on a bed of rice does not look very appetizing.
Great food at with a variety of price points. Looking forward to going back often.
Excellent reincarnation of Provence. The menu is very manageable le but full of eclectic tastes. Our party experience much of it. The fish and scallops were excellent. The small please we’re ample and tasty. Pre dinner cocktails were a perfect to the meal. The kitchen staff cooked every to to perfection. And the wait staff were chanting and personable but above all extremely professional.
Wow. Every part of our experience was fantastic!! The service, the attention to detail, collecting dishes, timeliness, wine selection, ambiance - all were so wonderful! It is too common to experience mediocre or sluggish service. The folks at Mosaic provided an actual dining experience! This is so precious and rare! This will be our new regular place in Carrboro/ Chapel Hill.
Was really happy that Provance reopened with a new concept. I do like the small plates/ tapas concept that the new Mosaic offers. Overall though the food was a little lackluster. My favorite was the mussels which paired well with the Naan( more like a pita flatbread). I did not care for the vegan meatballs they were a bit dry and the sauce was a heavy acidic tomato sauce . The desert we had which was a Pastor’s Blueberry pie needs some revamping . The crust was tough and the filling very bland . Not much blueberry either , just some dried blueberries and a stream of blueberry could.
The food and ambiance were destroyed by the intolerable noise level in the dining room. It wasn’t crowded, but the table of six next to us were all determined to test the acoustics. We could not have a conversation, nor could we enjoy an otherwise good dinner.
Thank you for helping us celebrate our Ph.D. graduations! The host and waiter were both enthusiastic and helpful. We loved sitting outside. Great atmosphere though there is a little road noise of course. Lots of cicadas and fireflies. All the food was good, especially the scallops, tomato pie, and french fries. The Mosaic salad was a little overdressed for my taste. I wouldn't get the vegan meatballs again. The chocolate cake was great! The blueberry pastor pie was also very good, we just wished it had more blueberries, and it couldn't compare to the chocolate cake. I would definitely recommend Mosaic for a celebration or just a nice evening out.
Great food, wonderful outdoor seating, excellent service! We had a fantastic time tonight!
They have some work to do with service. Waiter hovered and made us feel rushed. Only two tables inside and the other table had a plate of good spilled into his lap. Food was good except the beef kabobs. Rice was bland and meat was really dry.
I will try again after they have been open a bit longer.
The food was excellent and quite affordable for the quality. The noise level inside was deafening so we asked to sit outside. The service was bot. Clearly there h chaotic and really slow. There was confusion about who was supposed to be our server and we had to go ask for one. Then it took almost 30 minutes for us to be approached for just our order. And some in our party got their orders another 30 minutes later.
But Mosaic is getting its sea legs and just needs to get its service act together.
Great small plates with wonderful flavor. A bit pricey fir the size of portions but the quality can’t be beat! We had mussels (WOW!), jerk chicken thighs (great kick), linguine (classic and on point!), mosaic salad and the absolute stand out TOMATO PIE (10/10). They have really cleaned the place up and Francesca our server was awesome! Very helpful and timely. You should definitely check this place out for a nice night!
Out of scallops dish that we went there for. Made a lot of exceptions to dishes for allergies. Food quality good.
Love Mosaic and its eclectic menu. Hope to return frequently.
Food is generally good, some items much better than others. This was our second time here and service was not great either time.
Being that Mosaic is so new, we’re sure some bumps will work out soon. Food was excellent. Service attentive and pleasant. The noise level hindered us In hearing the wait staff and each other - leading to confusion about what was being ordered. Innovative and fresh choices and wine and beverage options were top drawer. We will definitely be back often as they hone their flow and process.
Mussels and Cat fish were fantastic.
Salad was good, but not exceptional
The Naan bread plate was not good at all....
Service was very good. So were the wines and the somelier's advice
Excellent new restaurant in Carrboro. Interesting menu, great service. Enjoyed several small plates — mussels, escargots, parsnips and scallops. The beef shish kabobs we’re disappointing as they were a pressed meat patty. The sauce was very good though.
Small plates were delicious, and wine suggestion was great
The outdoor atmosphere was fantastic. The service was impeccable. My only regret was that I couldn’t try more of the small plates
Mosaic Bistro: The "old" Provence of Carrboro is still a great place to dine!
First visit to this restaurant since reopening post-COVID. Enjoyed 4 tapas plates- portions generous, and everything was subtly seasoned and delicious! I would characterize the cuisine as Ethiopian, with a few Continental dishes. Very good wine list, excellent espresso! Our server was very professional and attentive. The main dining area is a bit loud, but the bar area and patio are quieter options. Delighted with dinner here and will be back!
The food was very good. They are still working the kinks out it seems as are many restaurants right now. We will return.
Enjoyed dining on the patio.....very nice ambience. Former Provence restaurant, but the same owners and staff. Four of us in our party and we ordered eight of the items on the tapas. All were very good, but we especially enjoyed the scallops, mussels and tomato pie. Plan to return soon.
Dining room was noisy. Onion soup was delicious.
Hostess seated us at a table that was very close to another. Would not put us at another table even though 3 others were open. The table was only about 3 feet away and we could hear all the conversation at the next table. Food good, but not outstanding. They were out of scallops and Osso buco, the two dishes we were hoping to try. We really liked the tomato pie and the jerk chicken thighs. The beef Kabob was just fair. Waitress was great and very helpful. The hosts visited every table but ours to ask how folks were enjoying their dinner. Will give it another try, hope to have a better experience next time.
We dined outdoors--lovely setting and ambience. All in our party enjoyed the dishes ordered. As it got busier, service slowed. Will definitely return.
Former Provence now has more small plates along with a few entrees. Same owners, chef, bartender, wait staff. As a result, everything remains terrific at this restaurant, but with more of a tapas style of dining. Good selection of wines in bottles and by the glass. Excellent cocktails. Food completely on point. Outdoor dining in a pleasant setting.
This was our first time at Mosaic, and we really enjoyed it. The escargots were very good -- not as good as in France, though! The Mosaic Manhattan and the tomato pie were excellent. There were some mix-ups in the way the order came out, but we dealt with them. Considering there are only four larger plate options, it seems like it should be fairly easy to stage the smaller plates in the sequence the diner requests. However, it was no big deal -- we enjoyed what we had, and two smaller plates is plenty of food. I did not like the QR code menu option -- can't you just print a menu? As it turned out, except for a couple of specials, the electronic menu wasn't any different from the one printed menu we were given. Our server, Meg, was very pleasant, and we enjoyed talking with her. She took the time to make sure the bill for each couple was correct. We look forward to coming back.
First time since Provence became Mosaic. There were many tempting items on the menu. We liked everything we tried (and with small plates, we were able to try more). Lots of big flavors. Loved the fennel and pistachio salad, Ethiopian Roasted Parsnips and Carrots, Jerk Chicken Thighs, and Chimichurri Beef Flatbread. I liked being able to get a lot of vegetables and fruit rather than just a big hunk of meat as the focus.
Our server Meg was very helpful and accommodating.
Suggestion: It would be nice if Mosaic could make Wi-Fi available to customers who don't have cellphones that can use the cellular data network (but next time I'll just print out the menu and bring my own copy).
Overall, just a delightful experience.
Mosaic will be another local hit. Looking forward to having a pastry chef on board for the daytime cafe!
What a great find! We shared several amazing small plates and it was the perfect amount. Don’t be fooled by the title of the bread plate, it is fantastic and pairs perfectly with the beef kebabs and fennel salad. Lovely time.
The menu offered very diverse options with innovative combinations. We loved everything we ordered. Will definitely return soon but will sit outside as the noise level was pretty high inside
the escargo is best ever. baptiste is a charming pro
The new menu is really good - inventive, something for everyone, small and large plates. I've eaten dinner at Mosaic now twice and both times it was a fun, delicious evening.
Five stars for an innovative menu of small plates, but 4 stars for execution. Only a couple of minor things distracted from a really good meal and these might be to teething pains (they'd only been open 8 days). The bread that came with the mussels was rock hard (maybe meant as a crouton, but you could break a tooth) and the broth had too much ginger. My SO thought the oyster mushrooms were too salty. We'll be going back to give these guys another try.
Everything delicious - onion soup, tomato pie, smoked oysters w pasta, Pastor's pie and chocolate cake. Great service. Looking forward to the bakery and cafe opening soon.
Service was chaotique and food mediocre
