Morton's The Steakhouse - San Jose Ratings and Reviews
Food overrated! Service is pretentious!
Prices outrageous for what you get.
For life of me, I can not understand why anyone would pay the prices for quality of food. Acutually my reason for going to this restaurant was because my guest wanted to experience it. Lastly in regards to the food taste, ordinary, could not believe it but it was.
You will not find a more a wonderful dining experience in San Jose! The wait staff are second to none and the food is excellent! I am from Charleston West Virginia and I took my friend and business associate from Cleveland Tennessee and his wife to dinner while we were in San Jose attending the Rejuvenate Marketplace in November. We could not have asked for a more pleasant atmosphere, attentive waiter and magnificent cuisine. Thanks to everyone at Morton’s San Jose for a superb evening.
Our first course was a Morton's salad, split three ways, was just enough to hold us over till the food arrived. My beef was the Chicago style bone in ribeye, an excellent cut, cooked medium rare. It had just enough pink to keep the juices flowing. the marbling was excellent in the steak, and it litterally just melted in your mouth. Along with the steak we ordered grilled aspartagus, which, while delicious was medicore in my opinion, and was barely enough to share amongst three. Lastly was the desert which was a Mortons specialty chocolate doughnut thingie, with ice cream ( I forgot the name tbh). It is almost worth going back for the desert alone, even thought we were stuffed, it lasted about 5mins tops.
The porterhouse cut was the best steak I have had in my life. The asparagus was impressive since it was not overcooked and had an incredible balsamic glaze. The shrimp appetizer consisted of what should of been called shrimp steak, since the shrimp were so large.
The service was incredible. Since we were celebrating our 2nd year anniversary, they took our picture (gave us a card with it), printed out custom menus, gave us a free dessert, and seated us in a U booth. Overall the ambiance was of an older time, a good time, a time of wealth.
Valet is a dollar cheaper than any parking structure so be cheap and valet it.
We celebrated a birthday and all the wait staff made the special occasion an outstanding evening. The service was excellent, food supurb and the special attentions to detail e.g. personalized menu, complimentary picture and birthday dessert made it a memorable evening.
We will return and recommend this restaurant to friends.
Food was what should be expected from a high priced steakhouse. The service was moderate to not good for the type of restaurant it was. We explained that we had a show to attend to but our service lagged and missed our show completely. Our table was serviced by a trainer/trainee. I'm not sure I'll go back.
Took my wife here for her birthday. The service was quite good, as one would expect when you are going to be spending over $100/person. We'd informed the staff that it was her birthday and they treated us to a "free" dessert, plus a special personalized menu and photo + card, and sang Happy Birthday.
It is a steakhouse, so really it's all about the meat, and they didn't disappoint, except for the fact that they were out of my wife's favorite, prime rib. We both ended up getting Chicago-style bone-in Ribeyes which were a pretty darned good backup. We both had salads and shared a side of Brussels Sprouts which were very good.
I'm not sure I'd go back here for a birthday celebration, but I'd *definitely* go back for a steak!
This is my 2nd time at mortons... This time was a bit different but I dont blame the restaurant as much as I blame the waiter.. I sat down at a table for 2 and then a booth opened up a minute later.. I asked if my gf and i could sit there as it was a bit more romantic and its our 2nd anniversary.. Waiter said they are holding it for a part of 4, i watch him and he never went to check.. i just took his work on it. 5 minutes a couple walked in the front door wihtout a reservation and were seated at that booth.. i was pretty offended and its my opinion the waiter just didnt want to lose out on the tip as the booth was a different section. My gf and i order one steak to split as they are so humungous and neither of us drink so we had soda..
We only went to Morton's because we received a gift card and will never return and NOT recommend. Our waitress was great - super friendly, attentive and knowledgable but the food was SO overpriced and below average at best. Morton's should be embarrassed to offer such mediocre food for such inflated prices - truly robbery! We love, love, love to eat out and typically only eat at independent restaurants because chains are such a joke. But this goes beyond... literally 5 asparagus for $11 and a potato (any way you choose- baked, mashed, etc) for $10 really?? are you kidding me?? Absolutely insulting! There are so many other choices and places to enjoy it's beyond my comprehension that Morton's can exist.
Took my wife and two of her girlfriends to Mortons for her birthday. We all had a great time. Service was excellent, food was plentiful and delicious. They had even printed up "Happy Birthday" menus which was sweet (although we weren't alone - there must have been at least 5 other birthdays that night). This was not my first time at Morton's nor will it be my last. Pretty pricey, but you get good value for the money.
Mortons is a class act... They have a visual menu where they bring out a tray of raw meat selections and a live mine lobster (alive)... they explain everything to you and prepare it quickly..They tailor the menu with a personalized greeting for the occassion and they give you a complimentary photo is a cool little book frame. Waiters, host and mgr were all attentive and fun... I loved it m ore than the other high clas steak houses i been too...
A bit pricey for a regular visit but the steaks are to die for and the service is over the top.
As always, Morton's was wonderful. We arrived a little early and had drinks at the bar, which has very comfortable stools. Once seated, we had the tuna tartare and scallops for appetizers, which were fresh and delicious. I was debating our wine choice, and the maitre de came over to help; he shared some very interesting information which made it easy to decide. I had the double-cut filet on the bone cooked rare+; Morton's is the only place I've ever seen this cut, and it's amazing. It melted in my mouth, and was cooked perfectly. My husband had the New York strip medium rare and loved it. I can't recommend the au poivre enough, and the mashed potatoes were great. For dessert we had the raspberry souffle which is our new favorite flavor.
Morton's was an expensive and long event moreso than a meal. I went for a birthday and they took a group photo and presented it to us and made special personalized menus--which they later took away which seemed odd--those were nice little touches however the three hours it took to get through four courses was excessive. The service was personable but slow and boardering on condescending. While the side dishes and starters were pretty good, the steaks were unseasoned (but cooked well). For the cost, I want my steak to blow my mind. Portions were big and I wouldn't go with fewer than four people to prevent coming home with more food than you ate. If you're looking for truly fine dining, as the prices suggest, Morton's is not the place.
We have gone to Morton's many times before starting to use OpenTable.
And typically we go there fro special occasions for birthdays and such.
This last time however we had some problems with our dinner, in that our daughter who is only 22 months was having some issues with cooperating with us for having a nice dinner out. It seemed as this started the waitress we had became less service oriented and not very friendly. On all of our other visit's to Morton's we had received out standing service.
I am sure we will try again in the future and hopefully will have a better waitress.
Very nice night. Husband and I were very impressed with service and food. Only reason can't give 5 stars is the carrot cake that we took home, was severley burnt... couldn't finish it... :( Otherwise, prime rib, rib eye, garlic mashed potatos and brussel sprouts were amazing!
Great food. Filet was prepared exactly as ordered. Side vegetables were outstanding: Brussel sprouts with bacon and chopped shallots. Went on a Saturday night, wasn't too busy. So, the filet costs more than most of my total meal costs at other places, then you're adding sides, drinks and deserts. Yes, it's good. Yes, it's expensive.
The steaks were the best I've ever had and the most expensive, so it goes hand in hand. Everything is expensive, but excellent! They asked if we were celebrating anything. We were. Our wedding anniversary. They took our picture, and at the end of our meal presented it to us in a "Happy Anniversary" card, signed by the wait staff. This and the desserts were complimentary due to the fact we were there for a special occasion. Very nice.
