Morton's The Steakhouse - San Diego Ratings and Reviews
I've been dining with Morton's Steakhouse for over 30 years and this was the first time I had a bad experience. My server was very condescending, repeating back our order of Shrimp Alexander as "Scrimps". I ordered a 6oz filet with black truffle butter and my steak arrived overcooked. I sent it back and the same filet was presented to me sliced. There were issues with my bill. There were items on my bill that were not ordered at my table. The bill had to be edited 3 times. We were celebrating my daughters 23rd birthday and I'm happy that she and my guest enjoyed the occasion despite the many issues.
This was with my boyfriend’s birthday and had his 14 yr old daughter with us for a 7:15. We were on time and were seated next to a 4 top with a particularly over served patron from the East Coast. Basically, loud, obnoxious, in your face drunk f bomb dropping. Our female server, Heather , moved us away after noticing distress but only to another table in the center of the room. Ordered , the salads were pretty awful and uninspired and not chilled at all. The male server, (a young man who said he was from Missouri)was over talkative then downright lascivious with a remark directed towards first the 14 yr old then me a bit later. Highly questionable material for a fine dining establishment and the girls father was having a tough time not jumping up and confronting the jerk. And on his BIRTHDAY? The clincher was the Food was only so so and we will not be returning.
Great restaurant with great food. Wine selection is amazing and the wait staff is very attentive and knowledgeable. My better half ordered the 6oz. Filet combo. She loved every aspect of the meal. I opted for the Wagyu and was very disappointed.
My girlfriend and I compared the filet to the wagyu. The filet was far and above more tender and better tasting than the wagyu. For the exorbitant cost off the steak, I expected to be amazed. Don't get me wrong, it was good, but nowhere newer the quality of their filet.
The escargot and potatoes au gratin were delicious! Again, love it, just avoid unnecessary expense of the wagyu.
Steaks were good, but i expected them to be great, this is a steak house after all. Potatoes "au gratin" were chunks of potatoes and ordinary cheese - expected something classier. a side of mushrooms was the size of my head. why can't they do side dishes that are actually a normal person size?
Service was very attentive. unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a table in the restaurant that doesn't have a view of a TV. not sure why in a high end restaurant there needs to be TVs in every corner of the bars (which are visible to everyone). of the many other excellent restaurants in san diego i would skip this one.
Mortons is always a go to option in any city. Steak was as always phenomenal. The sides were undercooked( sprouts) and had little flavor ( au gratin ) my thought was the kitchen was rushed given the crowd. Wine list was varied and our selection wonderful and the service was impeccable as always. Highly recommend.
I've been to several high end steakhouses and I was a little disappointed in the quality/flavor/creativeness of the food here. For the price, I feel it should have been better. I was also served a different steak/cut than what I ordered. Capitol Grille is a lot better. Ruth's Chris is better. Manny's in Minneapolis blows it out of the water.
First time at Morton's. Thought we'd take advantage of the 2017 San Diego Restaurant Week value. $50 we had choice of a starter, main course, & desert. We were warmly greeted & they knew we were celebrating an anniversary. Our menus had a special Happy Anniversary greeting. We did get waters from the busboy but it took time for our server to greet us at the table, bring our drink order & the Restaurant Week Menu. The food had a nice presentation & was served hot. We had steak & pork chop with salads. At the end of the meal they brought us a special anniversary desert of a hot chocolate cake w/candle. We were pleased.
Let me start by saying that I used to be a regular at Morton’s ‘s when I lived in Charlotte, NC (dining there at least once a month). This is until I noticed a decline in the food quality and service. This was years ago, so I decided to give Morton’s another shot in San Diego. It’s Restaurant Week and I figured I could bring my girlfriend there and try their featured menu for Restaurant Week. Everything went fine in terms of the initial seating. However, we sat at our table for at least 10-15 minutes before anyone even came with waters. Our server then appeared and asked for our drink orders. It was at this time that I asked for their Restaurant Week menu. Our server said “Sure, let me grab those for you as we only give them out by request”. We then waited another 10 minutes with no menus. My drink finally arrived at which point I asked for the Restaurant Week menus again. Our server finally brought the menus and, to be honest, it almost felt like he was A) initially trying to deter us from taking advantage of the special menu and B) looking down on us for even requesting it. The rest of the service experience was fine, but this is where the complaint with the food comes in. Everything was bland and luke warm at best. I’ve had better steaks at my own home and believe me when I say I know what a steak should taste like at a restaurant of this caliber and price. My girlfriend’s pasta dish had literally no seasoning and our vegetable sides were all bland, cold, and undercooked. The only good part of the meal was the desserts. We had key lime pie and cheese cake. So, overall I was very disappointed in Morton’s. They definitely gave me no reason to want to come back.
We have been to Morton's numerous times and each time is just as wonderful as the previous one. We ordered a rib eye with the house chopped salad, mashed potatoes and asparagus. Everything came out well seasoned and at just the right temperature. For dessert, we ordered the chocolate souffle, my favorite dessert and as always very delicious and fluffy. Their wine selection is impressive as well as the outstanding service by Matthew. He made sure my water glass was full at all times and constantly checked on us. Can't wait to return.
Everything was great, including the service, until the end. My husband and I used two gift cards and while the gift cards covered the majority of the cost for dinner, there was a small balance.
I was quite taken aback to see the waiter wrote in the amount for his tip---- I assume he was worried we would only tip on the balance and not the full amount of the dinner. I never, in all my years of dining out, have had a waiter enter his own tip. This was so insulting and presumptuous, it will be a long time until we consider dining again at Morton's.
Waiter was friendly. His assistants hardly said a word. No cheery "small talk".
The food presentation was very good. Loved the special complimentary dessert!
Very nice addition. But all these niceties, paled because when I went to the bathroom , it was messy. paper all over the floor; sink not shinny clean. For many women, a classy restaurant, should come with a clean, classy Restroom. Pls take care of "housekeeping". Have someone
check, hourly. Thank you. Our company was special and we had a great time at MORTON's!
I have mastered eating the finest Mortons has to offer with my grandson We share the best onion soup in SD as well as a wedge salad with the finest blue cheese and split the best aged New York steak on the planet with Key lime pie from key west ! Total bill just $100 for both Mortons dining means you are taking good care of yourself in life
We had not been to San Diego before so had to rely on info in our hotel room, followed by TripAdvisor. We were looking for a good steak restaurant and were not disappointed. The bar ambiance while waiting for our table was fun. (We arrived 30 mins early). Our server was excellent and the steak delicious. Altogether a great experience
