Morton's The Steakhouse - Richmond Ratings and Reviews
Was our first time there. Had a reservation, got there right on time and was told there would be a 15-20 minute wait. Had there not been at least 8 other couples waiting, I'd have chalked the wait up to someone staying longer than expected. I can understand that. They clearly over booked or underestimated the number of servers they would need as there were empty tables, but they hadn't been cleared and reset yet. Within 5 minutes we both said we were disappointed in the place. It took about 20 minutes for us to get our reserved table. Our server was pleasant, but very inattentive. He'd offer to bring bread, and it would end up taking over 15 minutes. In the meantime, we got our soup and salad course. We asked the server that brought those for some bread, and she brought it right back. Minutes later, our server came back with it. Based on experiences at other steak houses of the same price point, I expected much more than we got, particularly for a $250 meal (for two).
It was loud. They had faux fires on two TVs in the room we sat in. Tacky as hell. The food? OK, but not worth the $$, again based on my experiences at places like Ruth's Chris or Fleming's. The wine? Way over priced.
Will we go back? Hell no.
This was our 2nd visit to Morton's and we were expecting the same excellent meal as the 1st time. Unfortunately, it was not excellent. Everything was great until I took my 1st taste of the Porterhouse. Burnt! I told the waiter when he asked how was it. The waiter said that is probably what happens when you want Medium well done! The steak looked more like a large t-bone instead. I did take the steak home and gave it to my Pit Bull. He enjoyed it.
I ordered the Strip Steak medium well and it came out well done. It was over cooked and tough. I sent it back and it came out good the second time. The issue is it takes away from your experience when that happens because you are not eating with the person you came with. They are almost finished while you are beginning your meal.
Overall, a very good restaurant. For all the hype, however, I expected great. For the prices, the food was good but not wonderful. Our waiter, although courtious, seemed forgetful at times. We had to request bread and butter for the table. Not a terrible flaw, but annoying. I was also distressed by the fact that so many people arrived in attire that was far too casual. I thought business casual meant collared shirts and dresses, nice slacks or skirts for women. We saw far too many baseball caps, T-shirts, and or shorts. It made the evening feel more ordinary and not special, which we thought Christmas Dinner to be.
The location of the restaurant is great as there is street, valet, and garage parking. The service was very cordial from entry to exit. Staff even took time to take our picture since our selfie was not successful. Since I have eaten at the restaurant in Arlington where the food was impeccable, I could not rate this meal as high. The steak desired much more seasoning as I was thankful for salt and pepper. The twice baked potatoes were a little stiff and just luke warm. The creamed spinach could have been warmer as well. The onion bread was hot and delicious! Our waiter, Warholic, provided very good service. One note of advice for the server: Always ask the customer if he/she desires the bone from the Porterhouse for 2 meal. We have a larger dog that enjoys it and it was not included in our leftovers.
It took 3 tries to get my steak cooked to my liking. Other than that, everything was wonderful. This was our first ever dining with Morton's but most definitely will not be the last. Excellent dining experience. Looking forward to my next meal at Morton's!!!!!!
Just too expensive for what you get. I upgraded my tenderloin to Oscar style and the hollandaise was thin and watery. Although the service was good I felt rushed in the end when I was still eating and others had to go bags in front of them. Huge price for so so food.
The experience was awesome. The personal touch to the table and menu was phenomenal. The maître d’ was professional and called ahead to ensure everything was set. I was greeted by name and was wished a happy anniversary which added to the ambience. The waiter was well versed on everything on the menu and did not rush through anything. Not only did he wish us a happy anniversary but once he found out we were Marines he thanked us for our service. Food was tasteful and on time. Most importantly, my wife felt special and full. The overall atmosphere was intimate. I definitely would recommend ( already have) to co workers and friends.
We took an unconventional approach to Thanksgiving dinner at Morton's in Richmond. Lindsey was our server and she did fantastic, our appetizers and dinner were superb. The restaurant was a bit noisy due to the close proximity to other tables and restaurant was surprisingly filled for Thanksgiving. Nevertheless we had a good time and great food, the desserts were really good, with exception to the chocolate souffle was terrible tasted like egg and the sugar was very gritty within it. But Lindsey made a quick replacement with a fantastic chocolate cake. Mortons was a definite do again when in Richmond. Great food wuth our family.
My wife and I were searching for a restaurant that would allow us to create a special memory as we would celebrate our wedding anniversary. Our waiter Sean and the staff at Morton's did not disappoint. Our experience was memorable for all of the right reasons. Food was excellent, atmosphere was perfect, and the service was incredible.
We paid $79 each for 2 steaks. Mine was no cook to a Med well. They took it back and the chef just heated it more(I saw him) and returned it to me. Not tasty! Side was late arriving. I can cook a better steak then this chef.
Service staff was great. We ended up with $325 for food only no alcohol. This was our 26th anniversary and I was extremely disappointed!
