Morton's The Steakhouse - Portland Ratings and Reviews
My friend and I were in Portland for the night and excited to try a Morton's for the first time. We were seated in a room, that wasn't part of the main dining area, against a wall. In this area there was a group of 8 and it was obvious this group was much more important than my friend and I. After our bread was served the waiter came and did a half-hearted attempt to brush the bread crumbs off the table leaving most still there. Then our waiter brought our bottle of red wine out and set it on a counter behind us (still corked), left and came back 15 minutes later to open it and serve it to us in white wine glasses... I ordered my steak medium and it came out well, however, the second attempt was perfect and very tasty. My friend was pleased with her steak as well. We found the waiter to be semi-sleazy and inattentive. We were very disappointed in the overall experience and won't go back or recommend it.
It was disappointing. Shrimp cocktail was god awful. We were forgotten at check in (15 min early for the reservation so they sent us to the bar... 45 min later we had to go back and check and they were like - oh we thought you would come see us... after they said they would come get us). Server was a nice guy but it felt like a chain restaurant that charged crazy prices for basically nothing. The baked potato was just that. A baked potato. You could add butter or sour cream but the potato was $13. The steak was Amazing and the bottle of wine we brought was great.... overall sad and disappointing experience. We went there bc my husband hasn't been able to taste for over 2 yrs... he just got his taste back and all he wanted was a good steak house. :( bummed.
The experience was wonderful, food and service. The special attention to my friend and her borthdY were appreciated. The only negative was the noise level. With the bar opened into the dining room, the noise level was horrible. Due to the noise, this is not a great place for a romantic dinner.
I haven’t been to Morton’s in quite awhile and was very impressed with just about everything. First of all, they have done away with bringing over to tables a platter of various cuts of meat! Instead the waiters are able and do an excellent job of describing various food items, etc. The only thing I didn’t particularly care for was the blue cheese dressing on the tomato salad. Too much and overwhelmed the vinegarette dressing. The rack of lamb was great and the baked potatoe was perfectfully baked and served with all the goodies, including actual bacon rather than so-called bacon bits. Chocolate mousse was a delicious ending to a meal. I couldn’t eat everything so they packaged everything I wanted to take home in separate containers which awaited me after the show at the Keller. I had an excellent waiter, John, and when I return si will see ifI can request him as my waiter. All in all a wonderful dinner at Morton’s!
The food was prepared well and the service was good. The issue for us was the price; everything from appetizers to drinks to dinner were outrageously priced. The mark up on wine was significantly higher than I’ve seen at other restaurants; you expect some markup but 700% on Lamarca Prosecco and $16 for a 3/4 full Moscow Mule is a bit much. Drink before you go or bring your own wine!
We had poor seats, in the rear corner next to the wall and the service window. Frequent loud dish clashes, cook and buss noise. Waiter took wifes order, then started to walk without taking mine. Potatoes runny. However, the beef was done right. Overall not quite the dining I Expected. Less banter about the menu, more attention to the important detail, the customer.
We had a great dinner with exceptional service, but the hostess seemed to ignore our request for a camera pic (for a birthday less than a week away); we didn’t bug her about it and didn’t let it ruin our evening… But it wasn’t reflective of the service that we received otherwise. We’ll be back!
We celebrated our 25th anniversary here. The atmosphere was romantic, table placement was perfect and the food was consistent with the Morton's brand. We had our picture taken by the manager and received a photocover signed by the staff. Awesome Celebration!
In the past I have enjoyed open table to reserve a table during hours the restaurant isn't open. I will not use it again. It has come to my attention that they seat you in the less desirable areas. We were seated next to the kitchen, when there were at least 12 other tables available the entire time of our dinner. But my biggest complaint is our waiter Henry. Once seated we weren't greeted by anyone for several minutes. This is unacceptable at this caliber. Over the course of the meal Henry seemed annoyed to be serving us. Another waiter asked if we needed something and my husband said he was waiting for his glass of wine. That waiter immediately said he would get it. When Henry learned of this, his demeanor changed with a chip on his shoulder. The last incident was when he brought out plates for dessert and my husband, who had his cell phone in his hand in the approximate space where you would put the plate, Henry actually nudged the plate against the phone - Completely unnecessary! His lack of professionalism did not go unnoticed. I would suggest Ruth's Chris Steakhouse if you want fabulous service.
Morton's is now charging a 3% SURCHARGE on every dollar spent because the 'minimum wage' went up and the Morton chain of restaurants decided that despite their $60 steaks they can't afford the increase to their employees that make minimum wage. Before we were hit with this surcharge we were served over cooked, gray colored steaks which were suppose to be medium rare -- reddish pink on the inside. Terrible dinner, but decent service from the poor guy that apparently makes minimum wage that Morton's decided that they couldn't afford without a surprise surcharge on every check! Shame on Morton's.
