Morton's The Steakhouse - Pittsburgh Ratings and Reviews
Delicious food. Since we were celebrating my birthday and they knew when we reserved, they took a picture and provided a free dessert of our choosing. They also provided dated birthday menus. Service was attentive and it was a comfortable, quiet atmosphere for talking.
The cost was more than we would usually spend on a meal, even for a special meal but the quality was excellent.
We went for an early dinner before a concert and the staff was excellent about watching the clock for us so we would not be late. The food and the service were, as always, excellent. The nine of us chose a variety of choices and all were good. The truffle cauliflower dish is a must try. Yum!
We were seated right next to the kitchen, where the waiters congregate. They carried on loud, personal conversations among themselves, because of the kitchen noise, that we had no interest in. The wait staff should have a separate area to await the food prep so that the entire dining room does not have to hear them. The price of the food is exorbitant!! We were shocked at our bill....without wine! Don't go unless you want to spend your weekly paycheck. Plus a $50 tip....outlandish! The shrimp was tough, scallops, under-cooked, filet, small and everything else alacarte! I could buy a 25 lb. bag of potatoes for less than I paid for 1 baked potato. You get a much better value at Outback, or Longhorn. Why can't they at least give you a side dish with your entree?? Will never go back, unless I hit the lottery.!
We went to Morton's to escape from "trick-or-treaters" on Halloween, so it was fairly quiet. We had a booth, which was very comfortable, but it was a U-shaped seating arrangement, which I always find a bit awkward. The service was excellent. We were greeted and seated promptly, and instantly had drink menus and fresh water. Throughout the night the service was attentive but unobtrusive. Our waitress was able to answer all of our questions and made some recommendations. The drinks were very good (I highly recommend the Sidecar) but pricey, even for this level of restaurant. The steaks were cooked correctly, but I found mine to be a bit bland and high on fat, and the side dish potatoes needed seasoning. I had the shrimp and scallops with my steak, but they were nothing special. Our appetizer and dessert were delicious however, and we even took some home for later that night!
Last Saturday we celebrated our 22nd anniversary at Morton’s. We were delighted to find menus personalized for us, with “Happy Anniversary” and the date. We also had a nice (we actually looked OK, for a change!) picture taken, which was presented as a keepsake in a black folder with a handwritten greeting in silver ink. The above gestures, alone, would have made our evening special. But, in addition, everything we ordered was done to perfection - without exception. Even at the best of restaurants, our filets (too often) arrive overdone. But this visit was a rare (no pun intended) exception! Jessica, our server, as well as the sommelier, were gracious and attentive throughout the evening. Looking forward to our next visit before a future PSO concert.
From the hostess to the bar and bar area servers all were quite friendly, polite and responsive. The sommelier was outstanding. The price of meat can be reduced now that cattle prices have fallen down after the ridiculous price jump several years ago.
Overall experience was nice, however, we had issues with how the steaks were cooked. You would hope that a top steak restaurant such as Morton’s would have cooking a steak down to a science, but it was not the case. A steak ordered as medium-well came out medium-rare and a steak that was ordered to be medium-rare was still cool from not being cooked enough. For the price paid for the dinner, that was a disappointment.
Morton's Steakhouse keeps it standard high and manages to include innovative and accommodating options on it's menu. Table locale in this location matters; being seated toward the front near the bar can be a disruption to a high class meal. The staff is professional and attentive. The steak options are superb.
The dining experience at Morton's is without peer. The middle aged gentleman manager with eyeglasses always makes me feel welcome and appreciated and he is always in action. The ambience, stately, and sedate atmosphere is marvelous and diners can be heard by their companions without having to yell. Our server, Jessica, was friendly, welcoming, sweet, and efficient. She performed many quality checks. Our medium rare filets were closer to rare, but delicious. The $100 deal for complete dinners with no skimping on portion sizes, and including wine, is an excellent value. Bravo!
