Morton's The Steakhouse - Midtown Manhattan Ratings and Reviews
From the time I called to make the reservation the experience was wonderful- Leonard suggested a special birthday menu for my daughter's special celebration and Ally was absolutely the most delightful server EVER. The food - my four teens exclaimed - was, "the best they have had anywhere," Wow! We left Morton's an unexpectedly smaller window of time to fulfill our dining desires and make it to Wicked in time - all done without any anxious moments and flawlessly executed. We will be back next time we are in NYC!
We spent New Years Eve at Morton’s. Started in the bar area ahead of our reservation time. Enjoyed ourselves so much, and had such great service with Jaclyn, we decided to stay in the bar area for our meal. Pricey to be sure but being a special occasion made it a nice and memorable evening.
Outstanding!! I had the 6 oz filet and it was wonderful! I did not need a knife...melt in your mouth deliciousness! We let them know that we had theater tickets and they made sure we were out in plenty of time! Our waiter was great! We are farmers from Arkansas and felt like we were given the VIP treatment! Thank you, Morton's! You will see us again on our next trip to NYC!
Visited Morton's Midtown location for Christmas early dinner. We were a party of 5 and were sat immediately at a comfortable and large table. Our server Bart arrived promptly to greet us and offered great recommendations that my companions enjoyed to the fullest. We had a combination of shared appetizers and individual platters. My NY Strip steak was perfectly cooked medium rare and the au poivre sauce I ordered gave it a spicy kick that matched the cut very well. All the food arrived in a timely manner and the staff was very polite. Great dining experience overall.
Food overall is very good as it has always been. Service could be better. Based on past experience, male servers tend to be attentive and more helpful. The waitress (heavy-set) who waited on us on Christmas Eve (2017) at the Upper Level was accommodating. One waitress (tall, slim, dark haired - don't know the name) from the upper level was not helpful and totally ignored us when we asked for help. As noted above, we never had bad experience with male servers in the past and was always satisfied with the service. But the change of servers to females at the upper level changed the quality of the service.
Frankly, we were a little disappointed. This is our go to steak place around Christmas in other locations like Pittsburgh and Houston. Despite booking months in advance, and being called later by Mortons for a credit card to hold the reservation, we ended up in a not very nice location near and exit and a service door at the very back and upstairs on Christmas Eve, with a waitress with a bit of an attitude (perhaps because of where they seated us), and a steak that was not cooked as ordered. We saw people walk off the street, wait a bit longer, but get a better table so we have to wonder why bother using Open Table in advance for what should have been a highlight of the year?
Let's start with the positive: the Baked Escargot and the side dishes we ordered were absolutely wonderful! The wine list is impeccable. The birthday dessert was definitely worth the wait. However, I ordered off the special and I must say it was terrible. I ordered the NY strip 10oz steak ($79.00) This was by far the worst cut I have ever experienced (so fatty beyond the proper marble you would expect to see). I did inform the restaurant manager how the cut of the meat was terrible and I will not eat it, but would pay for it. I definitely did not eat my entree and followed my word and paid for the entire meal and left a healthy tip to my server. However, you would think that a restaurant would want to stand by their reputation and not accept the gesture that a patron would pay for meal that was not up to their standards. The service provided by the server was great, but the strip was the worst. They have definitely lost a customer, and I will upon opinion direct others who ask to another steakhouse in NYC.
After waiting for a table for 20 minutes past our reservation time, we were escorted to an upstairs table in an area where two large Christmas parties were in full swing and absorbing all the waiter capacity. The shrimp cocktail appetizer was excellent coming in a cup surrounded with dry ice creating a nice effect. The main course was another story. After waiting an extremely long time for our steak dinners, when they finally arrived, they were cold as were the hash brown potatoes. They replaced both but the timing was all fouled up and we were very disappointed. Too many good steakhouses in NYC to put up with this stuff. Won't be going back!
