Morton's The Steakhouse - Downtown DC Ratings and Reviews
Mortons downtown is simply fabulous! The only thing lacking is ambiance.. it is very tradicional mostly business meals here, but i will go again anytime for the quality of the food!! Amazing steaks. It was my birthday and they took care of making special every minute: decorated table, pictures, personalized menus... thank you Mortons! Totally recommend it!
Always a great evening. Unfortunately they had a private event going on which took up the whole bar and patio, but at least they called to tell me this ahead of time and gave us a nice table inside. Steak quality and preparation without comparison the very best.
Mort's is a classic steakhouse, and within that range it's very good. My steak was excellent, and perfectly prepared. The asparagus, likewise -- properly cooked to be tender but not mush. Not the place for molecular gastronomy, but if that's what you want, don't go to a steakhouse. You pay fancy steakhouse prices, but you get fancy steakhouse food.
Our waitress was a bit harried -- she did her best, but I think that she had or or two more tables than she should have.
I marked my review down a tad for two reasons. First, issue with dessert. We decided to order the soufflé, but, alas, the machine broke down. (What machine? A mixer? Why not have a spare?). Then we tried to get carrot cake -- no soap, they were out. Missing one dessert item is excusable. Two, not so much.
The real markdown in the service category was for the Sommelier. I'm sure he's a nice guy. And yes, he managed to open the wine bottle reasonable adroitly. But in terms of knowledge -- useless. I asked him to describe the wines for the "Walk Through Napa" Coravin tasting. (Three three ounce pours of good wines.). He said they were delicious. No other information about the wineries, the type of wine, etc. It was clear he knew nothing about them. Except they were good. Duh.
Then I told him I liked the Darioush, and that a similar but new-to-me wine in that price range would be great. And it was a nice price range -- up to about $350. No recommendation was forthcoming. Seriously, he just said "we have a lot to choose from at that price point" and he looked blankly at the wine list. Finally, I made my own selection (the Stag's Leap Fay) and it was superb. Which I knew it would be because I've had it before. My friend and I enjoyed the food, and the wine was great, perfectly paired with the steaks. But if the sommelier doesn't know anything useful, what's the point? Opening the bottle and pouring, I suppose, but a server can do that.
My wife and I went there for our anniversary dinner. Morton’s is a well known steak restaurant and I knew we would be spending over $100 on our meal.
The restaurant was very dark when we went in. I personally don’t like overly dark restaurants because I have trouble seeing my partner. We decided to sit outside on the terrace as it was warmer. Understandably there would be noise outside because we were next to a very busy street. It was unfortunate that someone decided to do some sort of concrete drilling though across the street. I also found quite a low level of lighting here too with bright blue Christmas lights around the trees.
The food was quite good. Steaks were excellent as well as the creamed spinach. This was the best part.
The service was very poor however. Long waits for servers when there was few people in the restaurant. Not a lot of attention considering the price I would be paying. Then there was a mix up with the bill which added a lot more time.
Overall I would not go back there as I personally feel the service and atmosphere really killed it. The food was tasty, but not good enough to over power the other two points plus the large bill.
We have eaten in Morton's in 7 states, and have come to rely on impeccable food and service. With all our choices in downtown D.C., we decided to go out of our way for Morton's tonight. It was horrible. The food was served cold. The sides were not what we ordered. The steak was overdone. It took forever. It was a horrid experience. So disappointing. The staff was apologetic, and offered to make it good. In fact, they comped the meal. It was just so disappointing because with all the great places to choose in downtown DC, we chose that.
Morton's always lives up to expectations. We requested a table on the beautiful patio. Sergey and Monique were our severs and they were polite friendly and welcoming. I was really impressed when multiple serves brought the food to the table. Canjuan was perfect as always and the carrot cake for dessert was outstanding. Kevin the manager was also friendly and checked to make sure everything was cooked to perfection. Thank you Morton's!
Was in DC for the week and this was definitely worth the price!! Filet mignon oscar style was amazing and would definitely go again. It was a nice and quiet dinner after a busy day sightseeing. All the staff was increasingly friendly and helpful!
Food was great. They had a special of $40 for a three course meal, so value was good. Service was good at the beginning. Then we told her we had theater tickets when she brought the food (promptly), so could she please bring the check with the dessert. We finished eating our entrees and she did not appear for another 20 minutes. We had to ask another waitress to get our check (we were too late to enjoy our dessert). The other waitress brought the check and then our waitress showed up with dessert after we'd signed the check. We had one bite and had to leave. Frustrating!
We had a wonderful time. Food was fabulous, service was even better. We chose to sit on the terrace, and generally enjoyed it, but the tables out there could be a little sturdier. Overall, this is the only minor blemish on the whole evening. Well done!
We had a great dinner at Morton's DC. After an afternoon of touring & walking, a delicious steak dinner was just what we craved. We chose to sit in the bar and enjoyed both bartenders that served us. We even took dessert to go to eat some sweets as the sun set on The National Mall. Great experience -- thank-you, Morton's!!
Our family dined here to celebrate our daughter's first job out of college. We not only had a terrific meal but the service was impeccable. Moeshi (sp?) was our server and she was just delightful and super friendly. It was a fun night!
