Morton's The Steakhouse - Downtown DC Ratings and Reviews
My family and I got together for a great meal with great service. Henry was amazing! He was able to answer all of the questions my family asked and he was polite and friendly. The managers, Lisa the hostess and all of the other servers were fantastic as well. I recommend the specials! We had three of the specials: the wagu filet and the bone in New York strip as well as the halibut. Thank you to everyone at Morton's for making a special night even more memorable.
Morton's had excellent food, but it was overpriced. They were out of Bailey's, which was featured in their signature dessert cocktail. For them to be out of that early Saturday evening is poor planning. But what worst about it is how the manager handled it. He seemed dismissive, said they only order liquor once per week, and made no effort to correct it or even offer a free dessert or coffee in its place. One would expect a restaurant of this caliber to have handled it better.
It has been awhile since I visited this Morton's location, however, it did not disappoint. It was just as I remembered. Delicious! Everything was made to perfection. The only thing that was different is they no longer bring the steak presentation to the table for you to get an idea of the cut of meat you would like. I thought that was a great feature. As with the dessert as well, but when the waitress said Lava Cake, I was sold! She was very attentive, helpful, patient, and pleasant. I am sorry I cannot remember her name to give her proper Kudos!
Service was extremely poor. Food service was late (45 minutes wait for order to be served), mixed up, and waiter and one of the "managers" incredibly rude, antagonistic, and unprofessional despite a tab of $715.
A great shame for a restaurant chain once reputed (years ago) for its great service culture. No doubt service at a fast food chain would have been far better and friendlier.
We were celebrating my husband's with another couple. Beautiful restaurant and the waitress was very informative.
I would love to see a more extensive chicken selection. Although everyone in the group love their food but me. I had a panko chicken dish - don't bread the chicken it's too thin for all that breading. Also the bread was over cooked- burnt and dry.
I will definitely visit this location again
OUTRAGEOUS. The entire restaurant was consumed by the heavy cigar smoke from the patio area - there is no barrier between the restaurant and the outside patio. For those in our party who are allergic to smoke, it was a very long evening. It is unconscionable for a Morton's to allow this type of situation and definitely they should be required to inform patrons ahead of booking of this uncommon situation. MISERABLE EVENING. Staff brushed off our comments like water off a duck's back: "Nothing we can do." "No where to move you. The entire restaurant smells this smoke every night." SHAME ON YOU MORTON'S!!
Morton's was excellent! We had a group of 8, and Walt was our server. The food was excellent and the service was perfect starting with the hostess Lisa. We were also greeted by the manager who made sure we were good. The restaurant had closed and we hadn't even realized...we were not rushed at all and the staff was more worried that we were satisfied versus getting out of there. Great spot! It was our first time and we will definitely come back.
The room was nice... I've been to several Morton steak houses. Our waiter was not very good. I'm hoping he was new... not very refined... I went with his wine recommendation that for some reason he couldn't bring me and chose a different one for me.it was fine. But it would have been nice to have a discussion first or a taste of it before he brought it. he also spilled ranch dressing all over the extra chair when removing it from the table. My meat was a filet mignon I ordered medium rare and it came medium well and my son who ordered the steak Oscar style came without Oscars style. I told him and he immediately took it and added the extras to it. No apology he just looked rushed. He told us he would give us a free dessert when we got there which he did by placing on the table and not even telling us what it was. When he was helping the table behind us he kept hitting the back of my sons chair! Like 15 times! No apologies just rushed. When he went to clean the crumbs he didn't have his scraper so he took my fork and cleaned the table with it saying this is not right I shouldn't be doing this! . I gave him a nice tip because I figured he would not be working there long.
This was a disappointing experience. The food and the service were good, but the kitchen closed early (around 9pm) without notice so it was impossible to take advantage of the after 9:30pm Happy Hour menu. Then, they closed the whole place early on five minutes notice so I had to leave half a cigar un-smoked. I used to be a regular here, but this sort of thing is the reason I have lately preferred either Shelly's Backroom Tavern a couple blocks away or Basin Street Lounge in Old Alexandria.
Overpriced for the experience.
Have been to many DC steakhouses, and was left with a sour taste after coming here. And not because of the food.
We arrived a minute before our reservation, and spoke to the hostess. She then disappeared for 5 minutes, leaving us standing awkwardly at the entry. She then returns and says sorry, a lot of people just came in and the kitchen is slammed and struggling. Mind you, this is 6.45pm on a sunday. The restaurant was 2/3 empty! If you cant cope with dinner at dinner times, it does not bode well.
The waitress came and dropped off menus and left some water for us, then disappeared for another 20 minutes. (These times are not exaggerations, We were left twiddling our thumbs wondering what we had got ourselves into).
She finally returns, rushes through the specials. We ended up ordering a seafood platter for start, and both ordered the mixed Filet Mignon Grill which came with shrimp and scallops.
The waitress recommended the Twice Baked Potato Au Gratin.
The platter and mains were tasty (as i said, the food was ok), although the Au Gratin came out as chunks of potato baked in cheese. I was expecting scalloped potatoes as is common with au gratin. Regardless, it was not very good. I ate maybe a mouthful, as did my date and the left was left alone. The waitress when cleaning up just looked at the un-eaten side and walked away.
By halfway through the meal, the hostess had seated two other groups right next to us, even though there were numerous other tables that would have provided guests a lot more space. The hostess then proceeded to have a loud conversation with one of the tables while standing about a foot from my chair making our date rather impersonal.
Would not waste my money coming back here. All up, mean was about $270 and there was no wine, just two cocktails (rum/bourbon), and the rest was food.
Would go back to Prime Rib for much higher quality service for similar price before returning here.
Went in for Valentine's day, expecting a nice dining experience for the 200 dollars we were dropping. We were IGNORED by the server for nearly a half hour while our food was sitting bagged and we were waiting for our check. Our side order was incorrect. The steak was passable, but nothing special, and the sides both had seemingly no seasoning to them. The overall atmosphere was that of a casino banquet room. Overall we've had better food and service at Outback for 25% of the bill.
Our steaks were not cooked to the appropriate temperatures and instead of acknowledging and apologizing for the problem the waiter and manager first attempted to argue otherwise after long waits for both. The service was extremely slow in nearly all phases; as if they weren't prepared for the Valentine's Day rush.
The waiter was amazing. He was knowledgeable, alert, and accommodating.
I have been to Morton's in Chicago, Indianapolis, and several other cities across the country. This location from the ambience to the food quality just didn't meet expectations. This is not the first time that I have ate at this location but it will probably be the last. When I eat at Morton's I expect a certain level of food quality and ambience. This location has consistently lacked both.
As an aside, the presentation of the shrimp cocktail served here shouldn't be the same as what is served at Mastro's. I'm aware that the two restaurant brands are owned by the same individual but it is something I'd like to see done differently.
The host (or manager...not really sure) really ruined the whole thing for me on Valentines Day. Granted I know they were busy but I was seated at a very small two top in a busy area. It was very early and not busy yet so in order to enjoy my meal I asked to be moved to a larger table. He (host with suit on) rudely began to suck his teeth then he grabbed all of the bread that had been served and slammed them on the other table. The server was even a bit put off by his behavior. I was very offended but opted to just try to enjoy my meal which was difficult. I ended up spending over $350 on this meal and feel like I wasted it. First time...not sure I'll be back.
