Morton's The Steakhouse - Chicago - Wacker Place Ratings and Reviews
My partner and I went on New Years Eve, the food was good but our entire evening was ruined because the waitress was quite surly, didn't seem to care about our dining experience at all and was quite rude in how she spoke to us so I wouldn't recommend this restaurant at all.
6 of us celebrated NYE at Morton’s this year for the the first time. We all enjoy visiting the multitude of prime steakhouses in Chicago and thought NYE would be the perfect occasion to give Morton’s a try. Sadly we left unimpressed and disappointed.
For what Morton’s charges in prices we expected better quality food and maybe a little less outdated in decor and ambiance.
2 in our party shared the special 36 oz tomahawk ribeye. That entree was burnt and meat was stringy, which caused us to question if it really was “prime” beef. Another person had the filet and lobster entree. Filet was not tender and juicy and the lobster was over cooked. Side dishes seemed smaller (yet a few bucks more) than competing steakhouses downtown. The wife and I each had the 22 oz bone in ribeye, nothing special, also priced on the high end of 22 oz bone in ribeyes in the area. At the end the nice waitress seemed forced to try to sell us some kind of frequent diners club membership. I thought we were dining at Morton’s not Ponderosa’s....
All in all, when you go to a downtown steakhouse you expect to leave the establishment with your appetite satiated and the feeling of an exceptional dining experience. Unfortunately Morton’s failed to deliver on either of these on a night that should be considered “prime time” in the business.
We picked this restaurant to have our Christmas dinner at. Staff was friendly and attentive. The food was okay. We ordered
Crab cocktail - very good
Lobster bisque - was sent back had odd taste
French onion soup - very good
Lamb rack - I ordered this medium but when I got my plate the lamb was mostly rare. It was sent back to cook a bit longer but was brought back medium rare. So it was sent back once more because the bartender saw I was excited with how it was still not done medium.
Mac and cheese - was sent back. also had odd taste.
This was the first time we've eaten out at Christmas. Being fairly acceptible in the kitchen I rarely go willingly to a restaurant that's lesser than what I am capable of preparing at home. Being Christmas, my wife chose this Morton's for an early dinner.
A dinner is a sum of its parts. Food. Ambiance. Value. And above most else, Service. Be aware, this establishment Does Not look like it's basic online 360 degree photo!!! It's so much better! 360 degrees also applies to that difference. Very nicely done for the 25th! The food was good. We'll prepared. As you'd expect at a upper echelon steak house. BUT, the service was Excellant! Stephen was our Waiter. He was attentive, helpful, knowledgeable of the offerings as well as the purveyor from whence our meals originated. After we were finished and about to leave, he even asked if we valet parked. We did. And being sub-zero outside, he asked us for out ticket, took it to the valet and had him warm our car and bring it around so it was right out front upon leaving!! I challenge any reader to top that!! That service oriented professionalism carried down to the busboy who removed the bread crubs between courses! Rest assured, we will be back! And a Very Merry Belated Christmas but an Early Happy New Year to Morton's!
Exactly what I expected from one of Chicago's premiere steak houses. Service was polite, unobtrusive, and timely. Everything - from the delicious loaf of bread, the indulgent lobster bisque, enormous jumbo shrimp cocktail, perfectly seasoned asparagus and twice baked potatoes to the precisely cooked New York strip - was perfect. Thank you for an amazing dining experience.
Well we usually frequent the other Morton's location. I accidentally booked our Thanksgiving dinner at the Morton's on wacker drive.
We went there instead. One of our guests ended up in the hospital earlier that day and Jessica was very accommodating to help us get a later reservation. Our 1st waiter was not friendly. He also while bringing the drink to my table spilled some in my purse onto my phone. He did not serve us any bread either. We asked for a new waiter. His name was Joshua and he turned the bad experience into a lovely experience which was important since it was a Thanksgiving dinner get together. I was surprised that no manager had visited our table to talk to us about our experience after asking for a new waiter and explaining about the spill on my phone as well. Over all because of Joshua was excellent service we did have a good time and a lovely dinner.
My associate could not make the dinner, so I had to dine alone. Morton's has always been my favorite in Chicago, so I did not want to miss the dinner. I thought the music was too loud, probably because it wasn't really my style of music and the fact that I was alone. I was seated in an empty room, that quickly filled up with trade show people. I love the Beefsteak & tomato salad, my filet was absolutely wonderful, best ever. I had to have the Creme Brulee, so I could brag to my husband and Granddaughter as it is their favorite. It was perfect. Bertha was my waitress and she was wonderful and took very good care of me, as did all the other helpful assistants. Cost seems high for me, as I am from a very small town and to pay 148.00 with tip/( 1 cocktail & no appetizer) for a meal seems excessive. I can feed my whole family a great meal for much less. I get to Chicago once a year and when I do, I like to splurge and east at Morton's!
Disappointed in the service. Waiter seemed distracted. Spilled blue cheese of a salad, didn't notice at first, brought a very small amount back not as much as spilled.
Steak after being undercooked went back twice and ended up over cooked. There were a couple other things too. Not the type of service expected at this type of restaurant.
