Restaurant is located in the basement of the building a table of a 15 top was behind us extremely loud we actually asked to move they can table continue to be low no man to do anything about it or service seem to be unhappy that’s resulting in bad service and food for the price mediocre
It’s no surprise why Morton’s has been around so long. As with past visits, it was one of the best meals I’ve had. The petite filet is flavorful and melts in the mouth. The side dishes are large enough for 2-3 people. Order the Au Gratin potatoes! Wow! Our server Maria was knowledgeable, attentive and personable. We were too full for dessert and left sinfully happy with full bellys.
Awful. The waiter recommended we have our steaks cooked medium rare for more flavor. We ordered medium rare. My bone in rib eye was well done and charred on the edges. My husband’s strip steak was also ordered medium rare and it was delivered medium. We each had over cooked steaks, 2 soups, 1 creamed spinach, and 1 dessert, plus 2 martinis. The bill was over $300.00. It ended up being very expensive dog food because we couldn’t eat the steaks. It was not the first time we had dinner there. It will be the last.
Everything went fine at the beginning with my party getting a nice booth. And our food was excellent. However, there were large noisy groups all around. AND I specifically mentioned on Open Table that it was a birthday and requested they make it special for the birthday girl with singing, etc. I also mentioned it when we came in to the hostesses. We ordered 3 Soufflés and thought for sure that there would be a candle in one. This did not happen and there was no singing eventhough this occurred at other tables. This was very disappointing. When I complained without the Birthday girl realizing this, our waiter came over and took our picture which he put in a Morton’s keepsake paper frame. This was nice but too little, too late.
Overall, the food was great. But the service was poor. After we were seated, we waited for 15 minutes. Finally, I had to ask someone for a menu. I was surprised since the restaurant was not busy and there were open tables available. It would have been great if the manager came by and apologize for the wait. There was no service recovery on the manager or the wait staff. Luckily, Chicago has multiple great steak restaurants and I am not limited to eating only at Morton's. I will not come back due to the poor service received.
The Ribeye I order was not what I requested. It’s was my birthday and I requested a steak with a lot of marbling in it. The steak was a lean piece of leather. I was so disappointed. The chef should have informed the waitress before he even cooked the steak. I should have gone to Ruth Chris like I originally planned. What a Birthday flop!
The chopped salad was good. The mashed potatoes were disappointing (I’ve had better at Dublin’s) the filet Oscar style wasn’t bad but there was not enough bearnaise sauce.
The molten chocolate cake dessert was good.
They were short staffed (no busboy) so the server was a bit frazzled.
Authentic upscale Chicago steak house with a clubby atmosphere. Enter through office building doors and descend the stairs into an underground carnivore heaven. The stairwell is lined with photographs of visiting celebrities, many from the restaurant's glory days. Now seems to attract an older crowd. We were greeted by the original manager, Rocky, who started on Morton's opening day in 1978. It's a quiet restaurant, still serving impressive steaks, chops, and seafood. After cocktails, my wife and I shared a boneless New York strip steak and onion rings. Doesn't get much better than that. If you're looking for a high-energy, vibrant spot, keep looking. If, however, you want to experience a wonderful Chicago steakhouse with a vibe from the '70s and '80s, you'll find it at the Original Morton's. Bon appetit!
Since there Lawry's takeover this restaurant has gone down drastically. They are WAY OVERPRICED FOR WHAT YOU GET. We had the 16 oz. sirloin, $ 63.00, ARE YOU KIDDING ME. And it was tasteless and mediocre. Will never go back again. Wake Up.
