Morton's The Steakhouse - Carew Tower Ratings and Reviews
Cincinnati Restaurant Week. Usually go to Capital Grill but haven't been to Morton's in awhile so thought we would try again. Service and atmosphere were good. Waiter very attentive. Steak was perfectly cooked and tender. Morton House Salad was bland, sour cream potatoes were good. Key Lime pie was one of worst I've ever eaten. I love key lime pie but not sure what they were trying to do to it. . . but it failed.
With a reservation we were seated immediately and the staff was consistently friendly and attentive throughout the evening. I did not have to wait for or ask for water, and I drink a lot of water! All of our meals were excellent, and I am relieved and grateful to the accommodations made for my 6 year old daughter. I have always been more than satisfied with my experiences at Morton's!
We've been to Morton's a number of times. So we know the food, which why we go. The filets was cooked exactly the way we ordered them. The service was good. It was restaurant week so the prices were excellent. The only problem was the horseradish mashed potatoes. They weren't the least bit flavorful. They tasted like plain mashed potatoes. They even brought us more horseradish. That's when we found they must have been using old,old horseradish. I put some that they brought on my fork and ate it plain. No flavor or heat at all. Surprised the chef didn't notice. They had to be putting out those potatoes like that all night. Those potatoes are one of the reasons we like to go there. disappointed.
The food was very good - some of the best scallops ever - great steaks too. There was a minor service miss, but they more than made up for it and it truly didn't detract from our evening! It was a special birthday and they were able to print a menu with the special birthday event listed on the top and even took a picture of our table and presented it to us in a paper frame!!
What a disappointment! Wine by the glass selection was limited, salad had too much dressing, bread was squishy, it was hard to find the potatoes (some of which were not fully cooked) in the au gratin potatoes due to an overabundance of cheese, the filet looked and tasted like sirloin (not like filet mignon) and was overcooked, the Chicken Christopher was simply OK, not what I remembered. Repeat - a disappointment.
Excellent food! We did feel rushed. Spending above average on a dinner, you desire a French approach. That is, server available and attentive yet nice pauses between courses. We were interrupted by 2 different management people while in the middle of conversations.
Everything we ordered - steak, seafood, sides - was tasty and perfectly prepared. Start with the Shrimp Alexander or Crab Cocktail, and follow with the Filet Oscar Style and Prime Ribeye; both were juicy and tender. The sautéed fresh spinach with button mushrooms was a great complement to both entrees. Desserts are oversized and made for sharing. Overall, a great dining experience.
We celebrated my wife's 40 year as Fight Attendant with American Airlines. They noted it on the menu and also took a Picture of us and presented to us. They topped it off with a Free dessert . Morton's has always been my favorite restaurant of all time.....and there is plenty to pick from in Cincinnati. Thank You for making this a Special Night!
I was so disappointed after a recent visit to Morton's. I have dined there in the past and have always had a good experience. While the prices and the ambiance are the same, the service, food, and overall experience has declined. Granted, we went on a Sunday evening, however, our server had very little opinion when we asked about menu items, and offered almost no help in selections we made. When we explained that due to large portions, we would be sharing our food selections-something we do almost everywhere we go, we were regarded in a much less friendly manner. The garnish on the plate was dreary at best-wilted parsley. The concierge was unfriendly and curt. I will not be in a hurry to go back.
Our server, Rob, did a great job but he was our only server - in the past we've had 2 servers for a group of 11. Some of our steaks were not done to order (eg: 1 of our party ordered medium well and it was very well, another 2 traded steaks to get their preference). Manager was friendly and attentive and our preferences were acknowledged and followed.
The dinner itself was the classic prime rib and the Cajun prime rib. Both were delicious and cooked as ordered. Very good. We had two side dishes, one was button mushrooms with spinach . They did not have enough seasoning and were very bland. The other side was au gratin potatoes which were not bad over all however most of the potatoes were not cooked thoroughly and had hard centers. The cheese was not very flavorful however very creamy . Both sides overall lacked flavor by far.
For desert we had a slice of key lime pie. It was very good although it was not over the top or anything to get super excited about.
Granted we had reservations for 9:30 pm and arrived about 9:45. They closed at 11:00 pm. However what really lacked at this restaurant was service. Our waiter was scarce and the expeditors did not exist. We had dinner and had to ask for bread. No water until we asked for it from the waiter once again. Service was very poor. I believe that because of my experience and for the money involved the money would be better spent on a nice dinner elsewhere. Maybe the Precinct.
Dinner cost us 220.00 for both of us. Only thing not mentioned was the 3 Bloody Mary's we had. Once again they were nothing special at all. They came served in a wine glass and completely full of ice. Not much vodka and no great flavor to note. The cost of these babies is what really floored me though. 14.89 a piece. Wow! What a major Rip off. I get that drinks at places like this are more expensive but a Bloody Mary At 4 oz mostly ice. Ridiculous.
Ordered the 16 oz. NY Strip medium rare. Came out as desired. Very good, prepared to order. Companion ordered the bone-in ribeye medium rare and it was a little overcooked. Sides were decent, not terrible, not spectacular (twice baked au gratin potatoes was the best of the bunch). Server was nice enough but couldn't remember who ordered what, mistaking drinks, appetizers, and entrees in our party of seven.
The experience was awesome. My fiancé and I have been looking to have a "fancy" night out and Morton's definitely hit that on the head. I don't regret going, but the food honestly wasn't the best food of my life like I expected it to be. Don't get me wrong, food tasted great- but I don't think it matched our $240 bill.
One of the nicest and elegant places I've been tooin Cincinnati. Pricey, but well worth it. Great place to bring a significant other for a special date. Steaks were cooked perfectly and the cocktails are amazing. Overall, a 15/10 and will be returning. Great job Morton's!
I would not go back to Morton's. If you want a steak in Cincinnati, go to one of Jeff Ruby's restaurants. The food, service and ambiance are far superior. Our experience at Morton's was just okay -- my steak was undercooked, which was disappointing considering the price point. I was very underwhelmed by the ambiance. Our server was nice, but definitely not on the same level as the Jeff Ruby's staff. (I did have a killer martini at the bar -- that was the highlight of our evening.) All in all, it's definitely overpriced for what you get. Go to Ruby's.
We have been here many times but this was the last time. Always before service was outstanding. This time it was worse than terrible. Our waitress never came to check on us after she brought our drinks. The runner brought the food and refilled our drinks. The water girl came by more than she did. We upgrading our steak on a mix grill and when we got the bill we were shocked that we were charged $29 each when the difference in the steaks on the menu was $12. We asked to speak to the manager and the guy we saw standing at the bar all evening came over. We asked why and he said that's just the way it is and we told him our disappointment with the service and his response was "oh well"! Really that's how a manager of an upscale steakhouse asks? We had better service at Cattlemans the next day and our bill was $30 not $480. There's many upscale steakhouses in Cincinnati and you would think Morton's would want customers to come back but this manager could care less. Go to one of the other steakhouses in the area.
