Morton's The Steakhouse - Carew Tower Ratings and Reviews
The food at Morton's is spectacular. The service was less than impeccable. My fiance and I were dining with another couple. We had a bottle of wine, they each ordered beers. The wine arrived in a reasonable time, but the beers took over 20 minutes. The place was maybe 25% occupied on a Saturday evening, had they been busy, long ticket times for bar drinks would be more understandable. After we finished our meals, a gentleman, I assume was an assistant manager, came by to ask how everything was. We told him that the food was delicious, and he offered to package my finace's remaining filet and potatoes, to which she responded yes. While we spoke with him, our server came around to clear plates, and they walked off together. Apparently their was some miscommunication, as no one ever returned with the food. Though the service was sub-par, the rest of the experience was great.
Unfortunately had a bad experience here. I ordered a filet, medium rare. Definitely was over cooked. Even the waiter saw that. Offered another. Medium rare in the center, burned and dry on the outside. I gave up. Didn’t want to ruin the whole night. Took it home and gave it to the cat. Will never go back.
Meal cost $350 for 2 entrees, 2 appetizers, a chopped salad; steamed spinach and 3 drinks.
The bread was the consistency of store bought dinner rolls and flavorless; the butter was greasy and had no butter flavor; shrimp was overcooked and tough; escargot were overcooked and tough; chopped salad was minced. The good: filet was tender and flavorful; the pasta that came with the scampi was very flavorful; they carry Rogue deadman maibok!
Our waiter was a bit pretentious but became more personable after he noticed his 20% tip, but ought to have been genuine throughout the meal.
mashed potatoes were not seasoned with salt or pepper; short rib tacos very dry; chicken christopher, not seasoned, dry; asparagus no seasoning; 1 guest at table stated well vodka & soda, which was specific, and our server did not state what Mortons pour as a well vodka. She read her check and was charged for grey goose; The server should have stated that the grey goose WAS THE WELL, if it really was the well....please train your servers to be informative so that a guest/guests do not walk out and talk to others- "I will never go back to Mortons"
I believe the restaurant was three star dining at four star pricing. I expect to pay top dollar for a meal at a restaurant in this category. What I also expect is to be "wowed" in some form or another. We were served ordinary food plated well. Service was average at best.
My husband and I love steak, especially filets! He decided to surprise me with a date to Morton's tonight. I guess we're just spoiled by Ruby's and the fact that I cook an amazing filet perfectly seasoned and seared on cast iron because we are extremely unsatisfied with the steaks tonight. My husband ordered the bone in filet and I had a center cut filet. His was cooked to the correct temperature but lacked flavor, he says I cook a better steak and I'd have to say I agree. My steak was also cooked as ordered but looked more like a thin sirloin than the thick filet I was expecting, it also lacked flavor, luckily I had bearnaise to improve the taste. Our truffle fries were also barely room temperature. We also watched our food almost get delivered to the wrong table. I also find it interesting that a manager never stopped by our table to thank us for dining and ask how our meal was. When someone is paying $250 for dinner, it should be perfect. The wedge salad was the highlight of the meal
My wife and I were downtown Cincinnati during a festival. OpenTable got us a table in 20 minutes, which was perfect for a pre-dinner cocktail. The bar at Morton's is fantastic. Large selection of most everything including Bourbon. We migrated over for dinner, which was excellent! My wife had the the Filet with truffle butter. I had the bone-in Ribeye, which was excellent "Medium". If you can reserve a table early, I would suggest a booth that overlooks Fountain Square, very nice view!
This is the second year in a row going to Morton's for Wedding Anniversary. Very relaxed and quiet atmosphere. Service is great. Appetizers, main course, and dessert were all delicious.
Recommend getting a table over booth. (Booth's are comfortable, but seem awkward facing everyone in the restaurant )
Went to celebrate a friends birthday. Worst experience EVER. Server was smug and flippant. One guests’ order came out completely and wrong and manager and server were both very dismissive. I had previously dined with Morton’s numerous times, dating back to their old location. I will not be returning.
The food was unacceptable. My bisque was watered down, the meat was grainy and without much flavor. The asparagus I asked for as well done, was very close to raw and the sauce that accompied it was almost tasteless. The chocolate mousse had a strong aftertaste. I was there for restaurant week but even with that taken into consideration, I expected more. A chain restaurant is just a chain restaurant even when it is very expensive.
Great dinner and service... until the end. Crowd started to pick up and things went down hill. Long wait for desert and follow up. Not sure what happened because earlier in the evening the service was attentive. Everyone who came in after us was finished sooner than us. It did not spoil the evening but it was hard to figure out who dropped the ball.
We were passing through Cincinnati and stopped by. Everyone was great especially Mr. Krouse (spelling?), the manager. He engaged my 6 year old who was excited to report about his dad's new car :)
The food was excellent. I particularly liked the vegetable sides and the option for a simple raspberry dessert which was not loaded with calories and sugar!
Thank you very much!
We can always count on Morten's for an exceptional experience. Starting with the staff and continuing through the menu, presentation and quality of the meal , every step guarantees a great experience. The steaks are among the best we have ever had, the service is impeccable and the ambiance fits what we look for in a restaurant.
I made our reservation using Open Table after being told they had no availability when calling direct. The staff was courteous and knowledgeable of the menu (including specials of the day). There were limited tables without an impeded view, we were fortunate to be at one and had a view of the square. The meal was delicious, I highly recommend their crab cake that was definitely more crab than "cake". The French onion soup though flavorful was over powered by the amount of cheese baked on it. The shareable side dishes are wonderful and we really enjoyed the Brussel sprouts and the potato dish we ordered. The ribeye was well flavored and cooked perfectly. I won't lie I ended up taking a majority of the steak home and had it for two more meals! We were so full from dinner we didn't get to try their desserts but the looked phenomenal as I saw them being delivered to other diners. Our overall experience was good and I would recommend trying this location to others.
I've been going to Morton's for over twenty years and since Landry's bought them out and dropped Frank Sinatra their quality has slipped, all while their prices have increased substantially. Unless someone grabs control to get Morton's back to their mission of being a 5 star steakhouse they will be shuttering locations within 2 years. Buck up and get to work, you can't ensure quality by being the "McDonalds" of great steakhouses.
The evening began with the bottled water, I've never left a review for water but it was so good. The bread was delicious. The menu expansive, the wine list fantastic. The steak was great, cut like butter. My wife's steak was too done but they fixed it immediately. The service was exceptional. Pricy to be sure, but it was well worth it for a special dinner.
It has been a while I have eaten at a Morton's due to food tasting similar and without any distinction. This particular Morton's in Downtown Cincinnati is an exception. The service was excellent and the entrees were actually outstanding. I would go back and I would highly recommend this particular Mortons.
Food was good but not great. Mashed potatoes were quite dry and bland compared to prior visits. Service was very uneven -took almost 10 minutes to receive our drinks (one beer and martini). Pace of the meal was very ragged - took over 2 hrs to complete the meal. had to ask several times for a second serving of bread.
