Great food and great service. We really enjoyed our meal. Jason was our server/bartender and he took the time to explain the menu and give us drink suggestions
Great food. Awesome staff. Great chef! Coffee is amazing, food was delicious. Must dine restaurant in Seminole Heights Tampa
This restaurant has a very limited brunch menu that includes about 10 items with all of the same ingredients just arranged in different ways (sandwich, omelette, "hash"). The eggs were not fresh, the bread over buttered and had clearly been sitting out, nothing seemed fresh. I was surprised nothing seemed fresh because the tables were not full. The service was ehhh. The host was great. He brought us our drinks. Our waiter was unobservant. I took one bite of my meal and he did not ask what was wrong, if I wanted something else, nothing. They were also out of whole milk and raspberries.
Overall, I will not be going back. The lack of creative for the menu, complete oblivious waiter, food that had been sitting under a warming light for a while, and overall experience was not worth the trip.
Wanted to like it, first time dining there. Service was shaky and awkward, food was okay.
This was a really cool restaurant. It had an unusual look to it and the food was very tasty. We were a table of 7 and the waitress was attentive to our requests.
Our server Brandon was awesome. Also, we had a brisket omelette and chicken and waffles. Both were delicious! Highly recommend this place.
My Texan husband said it was the best brisket he’s had in Florida. He is the pickiest brisket eater. I agree it is delicious..
We just moved to Seminole Heights and have been slowly exploring the restaurants in our new neighborhood. Mortar and Pestle is a unique coffee bar slash bar with craft beer and wine on tap. The menu focuses mostly on smoked meats including pork, brisket, and chicken. We tried the smoked sampler and it was delicious! You got to try a little bit of everything and the portions for two people was enough for a meal . The flavors were so yummy and the sauce deliciously complimented the meat with a little bit of sweetness. The wings and brisket were my favorites. The potato salad and cole slaw samplers cut the heaviness of the meats well. It was a perfectly balanced appetizer! We added the cheese plate and smoked veggie sandwich to even out the savoriness. The best part of the cheese board was the naan they served it with- grilled and warm and soft. The veggie sandwich was unique with a smoked portabella mushroom as its base. The hummus had a bit of spice to it and was so delicious. The atmosphere embodies the modern industrial vibe so well. The decor alone is worth the trip for a coffee or beer at the bar!
Our food was delicious and we really enjoyed talking with the owner about his future plans for the restaurant
Went hete with my 12 yr old son and we both loved our sandwiches. I got the fried chicken sandwich, my son got the Smoked Pork. They were both delicious. The apple coleslaw was refreshingly delightful. Great atmosphere. We felt very welcomed here and will definitely come again.
I went here with my boyfriend. We liked everything that was on the menu, however we waited 20 minutes before seeing our server. We asked for a drink menu which they don’t have. Every beer we wanted to try was tapped out. We ordered an appetizer and our dinner. Our appetizer came out and it was only two pieces of naan with some meat on it for 10 dollars. Our dinner came out at the same time as our appetizer. My sandwich wasn’t anything of what was advertised. There was no sauce on it, the caramelized onions were raw. And the brown sugar bacon was one tiny piece of bacon on top. I asked for sauce and the waitress left and went into the back and I could see her talking to another waiter the whole time for another 10 minutes before coming back with the sauce that was supposed to be on my sandwich. Our waiter never came to check on us and see if we liked our food.
Great place for lunch!
The food was delicious! I loved the atmosphere and although there was a very short delay in getting one of the dishes, both our server and he chef came out to apologize and explain the delay. I will definitely be back!
First visit here and we really enjoyed it. Great staff and service, fabulous environment, huge beer list and noise level was perfect so we were able to enjoy some great conversations. The menu is excellent and food quality high. Flatbreads are tasty but a little on the small side. Will definitely be back!
Dirty floor. Never checked their reservation so we had no table. We at on a couch with coffee table. Out of food on the menu. Rude host. Unknowledgeable waiter. Loud children. Over priced for quality of food. Hot. Poor parking lot.
The brisket Benedict was phenomenal. The beer list is also very solid though pricey. Our server was great and very attentive.
Half the menu was out of stock on a friday evening. Service was great but not much food selection takes alot of the experience. Poor planning on the kitchen manager.
Real bad. First off we walked in and it was silent. No music etc. and then we were sat by the door. Then they kept switching our waiters. Then we ordered a cheese plate. Gross. Then we ordered the smoke meat platter and it was served in two dark bowls. Could see what I was eating. Chicken seemed under cooked. Finally we had the worst headaches in there. Must have been poor ventilation because once we left it went away. Skip this one.
Pretty awesome brunch menu. Really nice layout. It wasn't too crowded and I never felt rushed to finish my meal and coffee so the next person could be seated. Would probably make it a monthly visit if there weren't so many other places in the neighborhood to try out
Waiter was new and didn’t know menu. Couldn’t read beer menu on Wall. $5 grilled cheese for kids that didn’t include a side or drink?? It’s a kids meal, come on!
Smoke over powered everything in mushroom sandwich. My wife’s burger was good. Flies landed on cheese plate midway through. My cousin girlfriend had an Asian style appetizer as a meal that she seemed to enjoy.
My cousin ordered chicken and waffles and did not get the fruit loop whipped cream. He also ate less than 1 waffle and only part of his chicken. He was being polite, but I’ve seen the man eat he didn’t enjoy it.
Overall bad experience and won’t return.
This place is great! It does get a little loud, which was hard for my elderly father, but the staff is friendly and the food is amazing!
Good food, (The cuban sandwich was delicious), cozy environment and good service.
Great food and service and loving the menu changes and updates. Always fun and interesting and a great beer selection (except I always pick the one that just ran out)
Food was ok and service was fine. Menu is very limited now (I liked it much better when they first opened and had a very creative menu). Now there are burgers, pork sandwiches and sliders and not much else. No fish at all. Also portions weren't very large.
Great service and great brunch and mimosas! We’d make the trip back!
Great food! Cool atmosphere! Lovely wait staff!
Had a great experience on Mothers Day. We had the weekend brunch and all of our party of 6 really enjoyed the food. This is our third time visiting (once for coffee, once for dinner and now brunch). Really like the smoked meats. Great atmosphere and attentive service.
We really enjoyed out experience at Mortar and Pestle. The ambiance was fantastic, the staff was super friendly and prompt, and the food was delicious. The only caveats we had was the food selections. The kids menu is extremely limited (only pancakes/waffles for breakfast and mac & cheese or grilled cheese for dinner)—how about eggs, chicken tenders, fruit, veggies? There were zero options for veggies anywhere on the menu (with the exception of the arugula on the burger flatbread)—to stick with the cuisine, how about okra, collard greens, corn, or even some broccoli would be nice. One other small suggestion, if you're going to serve chips as a side, at least serve house-made chips, not something that looks like it came out of a Lays potato chip bag. I will say however, the food we did have was delicious—they really know how to smoke meat!—but there is still come room for some significant menu tweaks and additions. Keep at it Mortar and Pestle! You've got the basics to make this one hot restaurant!
Chef Paul was amazing. Great to get to know him, his vision and the concept in depth. The food, ambiance, and drinks were wonderful. Well done -- we will be back.
Our server Sarah was amazing, food was great as well. Excellent place for brunch!
We had a great experience here! Atmosphere is awesome, great beer selection and the service and food was spot on!
Our server Shawn made the night! He was friendly and helpful!
The service, cleanliness, food and drinks were all satisfactory. Make sure to check out the chocolate menu.
My friend and I stopped by on our way to a class and shared the smoked sampler, which was pretty amazing. It seemed very hipster. The building and decor are very cool... a little steampunk like. I'd come back.
Slow service. Had to watch our food sit on the service table for 10 minutes before it was brought out cold.
Saturday night 8 pm and out of burgers. Expected given commitment to fresh product. Have to try again. Had the Cuban and black beans and both were good!
It was good. Food was a little underwhelming. I was impressed with the beer selection, and our server was very nice.
Food was good , hipster service .
Took 15 minutes to get our drinks that we could see at the bar. Computer system was blamed for why we waited over an hour for the food .
Management did adjust the bill to accommodate without asking .
Great atmosphere. Food was delicious. Cheese board was a perfect appetizer with very fresh cheese and amazing light, fresh honey. Salad had fresh greens. Sandwich bread was toasted and veggies flavorful. Service was lacking. They were short staffed. Salads were served with entrees which is unfortunate. We will try this restaurant again because the food was so fresh and had an amazing flavor.
Beautiful atmosphere, industrial and comfy. Odd service. Ate at 2pm, about lunch time or a bit after, yet their soup of the day hadn’t been made yet and they were out of potato salad, odd for lunch. Server broke a water glass on the table and did show any urgency or eagerness to clean up and replace glassware before we beckoned to. Dishes came out with a couple of errors, with it being kind of slow
Overall, food was good, atmosphere was wonderful, but Service left a whole lot to be desired. Since we were 6 people, we were hit with an automatic 20% gratuity; an amount not really deemable for the service provided. Would hate to see this place packed and on a wait for a table after this experience.
