Morrell Wine Bar and Cafe, a hidden gem in Rockefeller Plaza, has been a favorite of many for the past 18 years. We are known for hosting casual business lunches and as an afterwork wine stop before the commute home. Morrell has two very distinctive spaces as semi-private event spaces for multi purpose events. In recent years the entire use of the wine bar has been a popular choice to host casual events or holiday parties with upscale wine selections. Morrell Wine Bar & Cafe Ratings and Reviews
This was a great spot for a quick bite before and/or after shopping. They have a great wine list by the glass or bottle and knowledgable waitstaff to help you select one with your meal. This is a great find located in the heart of 5th avenue shopping. I definitely recommend Morrell Wine Bar and Cafe.
Honestly I went here with my girlfriend hoping to really like it. The service was attentive. The wine was very good though extremely high priced for a very stingy pour. There was a problem with part of our order and it was taken care very quickly and well. All these things made me want to rate it highly. I simply couldn't because the meal was mediocre.
I have eaten at 4 star restaurants and dive bars and have come to believe that all that really matters is the product you put out, certainly the more expensive ones you have every right to expect near perfection. This place is fairly expensive and nothing was near perfect.
I had the deviled eggs to start and they were well put together visually but were dramatically over salted. I had the oyster special which would have been good had whoever had been shucking them not broken shell into 9 out of the 12 of them. That is just careless. I also had steak tartare. Again it was pretty looking but I suspect because of how finely chopped the meat was and how much onion and caper was mixed into it that it was not a top cut like you would hope for in a tartare. No matter if that is true or not it was mediocre in taste as well. Lastly my girlfriend described her salad as alright and the salmon she had as under seasoned.
Overall this place needs to pick up it's game though I suspect it's location will keep it in business for the long haul.
Overall the food was good (though a lot of variance with portion sizes on the appetizers), it was not loud which was nice, but the service needed improvement. They were friendly but took a long time to come to the table and then were hardly present at all after we ordered.
the salad nicoise was the best I have ever had. The tuna was seared just right.
I waiter recommended a wine that paired perfectly with the tuna. I had picked one out but the waiter's recommendation was perfect and half the price !
We're definitely coming back.
Great wine list & food. Packed on a Friday at 1:00 so definitely have a reservation. Had the warm beet salad-the small size was still big enough to split. Steak tartare was good-not the most amazing I’ve ever had but definitely above average. My friend ordered the steak salad and enjoyed it but the warm olives appetizer had all olives with pits in them which makes it hard to eat and have a leisurely lunch when you have to keep spitting out the pits! Charcuterie boards looked amazing but we didn’t need that much food so didn’t order one but if we were there in the evening having wine it would be the perfect accompaniment
This place is a ripoff. We went because we are both big wine lovers, and they have some higher end wines by the glass. Disappointed when we got there because several shown on the website menu weren’t on the wine list. Bigger issue was the pours were unbelievably skimpy, which made their wines by the glass an offensive ripoff. Food was quite tasty, though again portions were tiny. I will not return.
I always try to come by Morrell when I visit NYC. Their wine selection is extensive, and their location right next to Rockefeller Center guarantees good people watching. The wine by the glass prices are a bit high, but there are values to be found when you buy by a bottle. Their charcuterie is superb, and the chef's selection of cheeses was even better. The only disappointing aspect of the visit was the service. We went on a fairly slow day at 2pm, and there were only 3 other groups in the restaurant, including at the bar. While the food and drinks were served promptly, we had to flag our server down on three separate occasions to refill water glasses (we were patiently waiting each time). Not a huge deal but noticeable on such a slow day. However, given the quality of the food, the wine list and the location, I will definitely come here again.
Alec our waiter was the best. We had great conversations with him. We had reservation at 7:30 but walking around in the bitter cold on New Years Eve they were able to take us earlier. We heard everyone cheer at the bar and we asked why. They said a bottle of champagne was opened at the bar with a sword. To our surprise he came to the room where we were eating and they opened up another one and we got to share. What a great surprise. The Pear salad was really good. I consider myself a snob on pear salads because I will get them where ever I go and I loved this one. Next time i am in the city I will be coming back. Thanks for making my New Years Eve a warm and enjoyable one.
We chose this restaurant for Christmas Eve because it is super close to the tree. When we arrived, it took about 20 minutes for the host to come out of a random closet and seat us. The other staff seemed amused as they had to tell him that we were waiting. This caused other groups to leave, but we figured we had a reservation, and where else could we get in at this point?
We were seated upstairs, which was fine but seemed a downgrade from the lower level. I asked the server if there were any specials. He laughed and said: "no, not really". We ordered one of the charcuterie apps, which was wonderful. Our entree's then arrived in a timely manner, and those were the best part. I had the Salmon and my husband had the pork loin. On the downside, we had to ask them to remove our appetizer plates and cheese board because after placing out entrees down, they left everything sitting there (I can't stand when this happens).
As we finished, I overheard the table next to us asking about their food. The server replied: "he's busy, so it will be a while". What a way with words. Two seconds later, their food comes out.
Terrible communication and team efforts at this place. The bathroom was straight up disgusting (as another reviewer also wrote). When you're dropping $300 on a nice dinner for 2, you expect the service to be on point.
I wouldn't recommend this place for anything but the festive location around Christmas time.
A must restaurant if you find yourself in Rockefeller Center and you want to treat yourself to a memorable experience. Will, the bartender, is a fantastic staple who knows his wines and provides excellent service. The menu is filled with fun tasting apps along with a delicious steak tartar. The is a wine for every dish and you can enjoy a spectacular view of Rock Center while you dine at the bar.
Best place to meet for great wine or cocktails.midtown.. bar is busy downstairs. Look out at Rockefeller ctr. esp at Christmas. Tables better upstairs if you want to talk. Great menu for light bite or dinner. Had lovely pear salad... fresh ingredients . Staff and service very professional and accommodating!
The service, food and wine were very good. The major disappointment was believe it or not .....the restroom. One toilet shared by both men/women for the entire restaurant. My girlfriend and I both had to wait in line dodging waitstaff and patrons along side people eating their meals. Absolutely ridiculous.
We were celebrating our 45th Wedding Anniversary and your staff could not be more attentive, friendly and helpful especially when our waitress offered the service of the sommelier to help us pick out a great Chardonnay. Your staff made our evening just perfect. Our food was just delicious and I would recommend our dining experience to all of our friends. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
My boyfriend and I decided to dine here when we went to see the tree. I was very pleased with the entire meal, the food was amazing. Also loved the fact we could see the tree through the window from our table. Perfect for a city date night & I hope to be back again!
While the service was attentive and the food and wine selections were good, the salad we ordered did not arrive although they did serve it with our dinner and did not charge us for it. They did include, what we thought was an amuse bouche(?), we were charged for it and we did not order it. Good thing we checked the bill which they did remove. The bread could have been warm. Can recommend the osso buco puffs as an appetizer and the chicken paillard. My niece had the beef tenderloin which, in her opinion, was not tender. Have been here a few times and this was the least organized. Could have been the location being right next to the Rockefeller Center tree.
Arrived a little early but our table was ready so we were seated immediately. The waiter was very attentive and helpful. The food was outstanding! The beef tenderloin and pork loin were the best we have ever had. The beer and wine were also good. Nice atmosphere, a bit loud because of downstairs bar, but still nice. A very good experience. Would recommend.
