For the past several years we've enjoyed dining at Morgan's in the Desert but recently have had many dishes that were poorly prepared (overcooked lamb, heavily salted fish, overly saturated salad greens, etc.) or of inferior quality ("store bought" dinner rolls, mushy grilled prawns, frozen lobster tail vs fresh). This is a "fine dining" restaurant which has lost its way.
This was our first visit to Morgan’s and as we were celebrating our anniversary we wanted somewhere special. We are locals and don’t usually seek out fine dining in the desert.
First, the setting is absolutely lovely. The LaQuinta Resort is beautiful and has such a luxurious feeling to it so of course the restaurant is finely suited and decorated to carry those sensations.
We were seated slightly after our reservation time which was not a problem as we were kept informed. Our table was outside on a chilly evening, but the overhead heater was just the right temperature.
Service staff were prompt and courteous, clear in their presentation of the menu.
Our only disappointment was the quite ordinary taste of the food. My husband ordered the special: steak, shrimp and scallops. The quality of the steak was the same as you’d get at any other restaurant and the sea food was over charred with almost a burned taste. My short ribs were more of the texture and taste of a pot roast.
We did enjoy a fine coffee and desert.
Beware though it is pricey. Our total for four people, two glasses of wine, and one cocktail was 498.00!
We were celebrating a 15th wedding anniversary trip and Morgans was perfect. It was a Friday night but the night after Valentines Day so they were busy but not too busy. It was a little cool so they moved a heater for us and later provided a blanket for my wife. Their classic starter drinks were a perfect start. My wife had the Old Fashionista and I had their tonic and gin. Appetizers, dinner and sides and wine pairings we perfect. They ended the evening with an anniversary desert on the house. Anita was wonderful and right on with her suggestions.
We have visited Morgans before and it was great. Unfortunately, we dined there on Valentines day (we were guests at the hotel) and sat at a table that was added for the busy occasion. My husband had a direct view of the kitchen and everyone (everyone!) who came and went. It was the worst table we've ever had. For a $300 dinner, it was a shame. The food was good. The service was good. But the evening was definitely ruined by the huge number of servers that walked by us every 5 seconds.
Freezing cold, very small pours for expensive wine and cocktails!
Lovely venue and good food. Only negative experience was cold draft around our table but server did provide blankets for the ladies. Service was very slow but the restaurant was full and very busy. Would go again but perhaps not on Valentine’s Day
Beautiful restaurant. Always look forward to dining experience.
The whole experience contributed to a very enjoyable and successful valentines evening...our 53rd!!!!!
Thanks to all of those in the front and also those behind the scene that enabled it all to come together.
We always come back and have never been disappointed.
Food is delicious and great service. Love sitting outside but had to go in because of rain. We ended up with our own private room. Very nice.
Excellent food service ambiance and memorable date night
Morgan's was outstanding, as usual! We have been going to Morgan's for 10 years. They never disappoint!
It was fabulous, not our first time here, always a great experience. Food is always fresh and up to date, changing menu. Amazing that a resort continues to have a restaurant at this level.
Wonderful ambiance and service. Limited but nice menu, items cooked to perfection. Staff obviously well trained, very pleasant, helpful and professional.
I have already recommended this restaurant to my friends. I had the lamb and my wife had the filet. The whole resort is gorgeous. I was in trouble for not booking our stay there. Food is excellent. Decor perfect. Someday I will go back even though it is a 4 hour drive.
Great food. Perfect service.
Morgan's offers an appealing menu is a cozy, sophisticated dining room or on a lovely outdoor patio. Service is exceptionally professional and knowledgeable. We especially enjoyed the inviting cocktail bar area with live music and talented bartenders. A really top notch experience.
The service made the overall experience not what you would expect at Morgan’s. It took 15 minutes to get a cocktail before dinner and the dining room was not crowded; the server did say that the bar was very crowded. I see that is something they need to work out.
It appeared there was not enough help. Everything was very slow. When our friends had a to go box delivered to the table not in a bag the server said he had to check to see if he could leave the dining room to go get one. I find that hard to believe in this quality of an establishment. The employees should feel empowered to do what they need to do to please a guest.
All the food was excellent. Steaks, lobster and salmon were delicious. It’s very unfortunate that the poor service overshadowed the excellent cuisine.
Comfortable and relaxed is how we felt during our experience. Professional, prompt and courteous service. A must when staying at La Quinta!
Our server, Steve, was very knowledgeable, professional, personal and attentive. His assistant (pardon me for not remembering his name) was excellent. My husband and I found the food to be delicious, priced appropriately and had flavors as described in the menu. I would definitely recommend Morgan's for a wonderful meal.
Had a wonderful meal in their cozy dining room. Waiter was very informative and did a great job. Food was very tasty.
Careless service- wrong drink for the birthday guest, spilling food on guests, not taking order off the bill, nor offering left over Birthday cake to take home, not dividing the check. Frustrating experience
Our 40th wedding anniversary 😎
My group of four enjoyed our dinner on the patio. Great cocktails, oysters and entrees!
The service at the bar and initially at the table was poor. After we got into the evening it improved, but no excuse for initial poor response!
Birthday for my son in law
Our waitress Rebeka provided superb service. She gave us enough time in between servings to enjoy our food and we did not feel rushed. She was so personable and very accommodating.
Morgan’s must be under different management or else they have changed the
menu along with a different chef. Not what we have been accustomed to. The service
was not up to their standard. The soup was always a must have, so unique and delicious. It was always made without cream. Different recipe and it was not nearly as good. Not in a hurry to return . Anyone new to the area the grounds are beautiful and worth seeing.
All the courses were delicious, everything from the side dishes ( corn with hint of ginger amazing) rib eye, short ribs ( they were really clean, mostly meat instead of fat, wich is good) very flavorful food. Excellent service, prompt. It is expensive, but it is worth it.
Great Service,(Anita)good food, great place for any occasion.
Thank you for wonderful evening.
I made my reservation over a week in advance. Our party," family", were together for a
special occasion. I'd expected seating in an area that had ambiance. After all, advanced
reservation, right? We were seated with a view of the kitchen. Requesting a change of
location, I was told we could push one of our tables into the table next to us. Fair enough,
but was I happy? Not at all. There were tables vacant near us that would have satisfied us
completely. They went unoccupied our entire 2 1/2 dinner.
Magdalena our server was the only bright spot.
Do I expect to hear from you? No, so next time we are spending time at our winter home at
the La Quinta Country Club across the street. We'll choose somewhere else to dine. Like the
"Sandbar". Bobby Canard will be more than happy to make our evening memorable.
We love it here. It makes us feel like we are on vacation!
Professional wait staff. A must stop on every visit to the desert.
Food is really good, service excellent. Just know that medium rare is a very red, warm throughout cook. Closer to what I would call rare
We had a lovely dinner last night at Morgan’s. This is a very upscale place perfect for special occasions and celebrations. Michael, our waiter was excellent: friendly and knowledgeable, but not hovering. The food is all absolutely delicious, from the hot fresh-baked bread to the deconstructed lemon pie. The scallops & shrimp were perfect, the Wagyu steak had great flavor and was cooked just right. Prices are high, but the food quality, the service, and the atmosphere make it worth it.
The wait staff was outstanding, the food was all excellent, as well as the wine selections. Birthday dessert and the lemon curd dessert were both delicious.
We will definitely be back - have already made another reservation!
Great place to celebrate a special occasion. Knowledgeable and friendly staff, ample menu, beautiful decor.
Our server was not very attentive at all. Brought us a bottle of wine and then waited for 10 minutes to get wine glasses. Did not come back to refill until then end of dinner we refilled ourselves. There was an 1/8th of a bottle l ft and she proceeded to pour it over my hand.... we frequent there and this was not a usual experience.
Food and service was outstanding will be back for sure. It made my birthday extra special!
