Excellent cocktails with terrific appetizers.
I wanted to really like this place. The meal started off well, my mom is on a temporary gluten and dairy free diet, and they were able to accommodate her after speaking with the kitchen, which we were impressed with. After she enjoyed the side salad on her plate I thought I saw something strange, and low and behold there was a 1 inch (cooked) bug next to her eggs benedict. Our waitress took the plate away immediately and offered to bring her a new plate. When the new plate came out quite a bit later, the rest of our party was done eating, and they had poured hollandaise sauce all over the top (the first "bug" plate had it correctly served on the side as ordered). Our waitress noticed the error and offered to bring a third plate correctly. Since the two plates had taken about 45 min, my mom just scraped the sauce off and ate what she could. Now this ENTIRE time, there was a manager standing 2 feet from our table on an iPad at the bar. He never acknowledged our table, said he was sorry she had a bug in her food, or offered any sort of compensation her getting two plates that were basically inedible. When the check came, the only thing that was compensated was her plate, which it SHOULD HAVE BEEN since they were both basically inedible. I ended up speaking to the general manager when we left who gave us 3 drink tokens to get us a round of drinks, which is the only reason I'm giving a generous 2 stars. The damage was already done, and we should have known since it was the only restaurant not crowded on a Cubs home game day. Food that we did eat was fine, but overpriced.
We were seated at one of the nice booths on the first floor but service was a little slow to get to us. After our orders were taken tho, service was top notch! Drinks were great, particularly the manhattan and second tequila drink on the menu. Shrimp cocktail was excellent and the fries! 2 of us at the table ordered steak medium but it came well done. Overall good but might be a while before going back.
Mordecai is one of my favorite places. However, they’ve changed some things which make it less appealing to me. It now seems to be catering to the “bro crowd.” Dining alongside loud, obnoxious men acting like they’re sitting at Murphy’s Bleachers really affected our experience. It felt elegant before. It now seems less so. I still love the staff, the food, and the cocktails, so I’m sure I’ll be back. I’m just sorry it was altered.
Waited 45 minutes for cocktails... ordered all the appetizers at the 30 minute mark and food started showing up before the 1st drink...
Birthday. Amazing service. They went above and beyond to make us happy.
RIGHT ACROSS from Wrigley Field. Very unique food and an INCREDIBLY extensive liquor assortment.
Interesting cocktail menu. You're in for a treat if you go here. Kris is a great waiter too.
Great cocktails, food was also really good! Cozy ambiance.
Excellent food. Excellent service. The beef tartare had a wonderful texture and taste and the tuna tartare was even better. The roast chicken was moist with an impossibly crisp skin. Nice bourbon selection.
Bar service was a little slow, but our food and waiters were great!
Food and presentation were wonderful. Intimate feel to dining room. Loved the view of Wrigley Field. But the best was the service -- friendly, knowledgeable and fun.
An absolute joy to eat there. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly and the food was outstanding. The drink were fantastic and we will for sure be returning
Guess I was wrong to expect fine dining that close to Wrigley.
I've been here multiple times and it's so great! The service was wonderful, ambiance is comfortable but still trendy and nice. Food was amazing, I'm already trying to plan me and my bf's next date night ASAP just as an excuse to get cheese curds, steak, and a champagne cup :)
Noisy, dimly lit. Food was too rich. Service wasn't very good. For example, we wanted to split a salad, so they brought a full salad on one plate. I guess my wife and I were expected to eat it off the same plate.
The food was great. The cocktails were unbelievably good (try the Cycle — crazy good). The best part of my visit were the people — gracious and attentive service with warmth and NO pretense. Gonna come back often!
Outstanding service, very cosy ambiance, great bartending. Very highly recommended.
Service was a little slow, but everyone was very sweet and helpful. Great cocktail menu.
Very enjoyable brunch! Choices we do hard to make we chose three and shared them all!
TURN OFF YOUR TVS. It's an upscale restaurant and 6 TVs playing basketball is not a good atmosphere to eat in unless you're aiming for a sports bar. The food was fine yet unremarkable.
Restaurant was out of items even though it was only 7:30pm. Waitstaff should tell you upon handing out menus what they’re out of so you don’t get your hopes up. Quality of food was fine, not bad but also not impressive.
mussels dry and small pasta portion. Sea bass was good and crackerjack beignet (sp) dessert was excellent
We were very happy with our experience. There is quite a whiskey menu to order from and we decided on Rye Old Fashioned's which were excellent but they were quite slow in getting them to the table. The food was very good and came out rather quickly.
We will return.
This is my favorite restaurant at the Hotel Zachery. Can hardly wait for the weather to warm up again so we can spend time on the terrace.
We had great service and both really liked what we ordered. I had the Bourbon-cured salmon toast and my friend had the cleverly named Hamsel & Gretel.
It’s a pretty place, kind of stark but very comfortable and a perfect neighborhood spot for brunch.
Very fun restaurant, a little bit of of a foodie place. Definitely will be back, wish it was a little less pricey and a little more food but otherwise very fun.
Fabulous food, drinks, and service in appealing ambiance.
It was the perfect place to enjoy dinner before a show. The staff was amazing and good was outstanding. We will definitely be back!
A nice calm fine dining restaurant with food that impressed me on both visual and flavor. Prices are fair and the waiters are nice to explain all the drinks available. Would recommend to try this place out. Will definately come back.
Always a great experience. We’ve been going since they opened and always find the caliber of service to amazing. The staff is knowledgeable of the food, cocktails and spirits. The food continues to be amazing and only get better. It is our go to place that we look forward to visiting and the experience every time we dine and drink there. Highly recommended whether you are going for dinner, great cocktail, whiskey tasting...they will exceed your expectations.
it was a cold night and one of my guests was really cold and the doors kept opening and it was freezing. They tried to help with a heater and our server himself was very nice. Bread is not apparently served but we were so cold he had some grilled for us which was nice. The drinks are VERY EXPENSIVE as is the food. for 3 people it was $260 with no appetizers and one shared desserts.
too expensive and you could not hear at all and we were freezing.
Amazing food and great atmosphere, great service. However, a bit pricey and very weak wine pours.
the skatewing wasn't fresh. the pork was dry. the wine pour was tiny. they didn't inform us of the oyster special. they dropped off a plate that had a huge stain on it.
Amazing food, amazing drinks, amazing service! We loved our experience and will be coming back soon
Liked the atmosphere and the cauliflower soup a lot. Cocktails slightly pricey.
I liked the drinks- service at table was sub par. At the bar service was excellent. Even the water guy was non responsive and sullen. I had the restaurant week meal- cold soup, very greasy fish- burned potatoes. What a let down. The manager did his best, but not for dinner again.
We decided to go based on restaurant week. The appetizers of cauliflower soup and blue cheese wedge were very good. I would place the entrees in the average category. They were fine but nothing special. The same for the butterscotch pudding for dessert, just average. It didn't have alot of flavor and was a little alcohol heavy for me. The setting is nice, it's fun to look at Wrigley Field and the service was very good.
Food was great!
Only issue is that it was a cold day out and the restaurant was very cold-we ate with coats on/draped on us for most of meal. They were aware of the issue and had closed sliding entry door to keep out some of the cold.
We had the restaurant week menu and everything was beige. The entree of skate wing and potatoes didn’t have another color on the plate except for a mildly pink aioli. The pork ribs were very dry.
The downstairs dining room is uncomfortably cold and drafty. The service was remarkably poor. As an example, we had sparkling water (purchased $4 per small bottle) that they repeatedly refilled with tap water. We ordered apps and the server never came back to take our order. We had to ask if we could order. Really bad. The food was ok but not even close to its aspiration.
