Mooncusser Fish House
Apps were okay. Both fish dishes we got were overcooked and dry (maybe sat on a hotplate or under a heatlamp or something? waited maybe 35-45min after apps plates were taken to when we were served entrees). Pasta came out luke-warm (again, not sure if food was just sitting somewhere waiting?)
Great place for a quiet intimate dinner. Plenty of options. The melon gazpacho was a highlight.
Restaurant week menu was good as usual. We enjoyed the melon soup and the the blue fish main dish. Desert was slow to arrive but when arrived it was delicious.
A delightful evening w friends enjoying Dine Out Boston. Another beautiful and delicious meal including melon Gazpacho, ceviche and scallops. 😋 and a nicely priced decanted red wine. Thank you Vincent.
I have been to Mooncusser multiple times and have always had a wonderful experience until my last visit. We raved to friends how it was a great restaurant and took them here. Service was abysmal. We had to wait 20 minutes to be seated after reservation time, a half hour to get menus once seated, an hour between appetizers and dinner, and our servers clearly did not know what was going on. It should not take >3 hours to have a dinner. It was embarrassing for us who invited friends to go there.
It took very long
Food is very good. Service was borderline atrocious.
It was my first time here. I think if I want to have seafood, I’ll probably go to other restaurants in Boston that I liked much better than Mooncusser.
Our late summer dinner at Mooncusser last night was excellent on all counts. We took advantage of the Boston Dines Out menu, and with our friends, sampled all they had to offer. The ceviche and mango gazpacho with lobster were delicious. The warm squid salad complemented our offerings. The scallops, bluefish and tagliatelle with mussels all featured local seasonal farm produce and were cooked perfectly. Vince recommended a white Spanish wine that was distinct and worked so well with all the entrees. Finally, the chocolate cake with berries and the panna cotta both were a fitting end to the meal. Atmosphere was great, diners happy, and service was fantastic!! We couldn't have been more pleased and had a wonderful experience, looking forward to coming again soon.
Pretty and atmospheric third-floor setting -- but not dark, for a change. Lovely, welcoming service, very good food. Great spot for a special date with a special someone -- or a small group of good friends.
We were on the 3rd floor and had a waitress who was "new". She told us about the oysters before even asking us if we wanted drinks (which we did). Not good.
The drinks took a long time and the entrees took a very long time. It was a Saturday night and the 3rd floor was full, but not sure about other 2 floors.
They also did not have hot sauce for the oysters that we ordered nor did they have cocktail sauce?? How is that possible. Very disappointing. All told took us 2 3/4 hours for dinner.
Delicious meal at Mooncusser Fish House during Dine-Out Boston week! Had a glass of wine downstairs first at the lively Moon Bar, and then headed upstairs for amazing food and great wine selections. Every bite was outstanding! Very knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive staff!
The staff is wonderful. Very friendly and knowledgeable.
Unfortunately, one of the chefs quit that afternoon, so everything was delayed somewhat. No big deal though, as the manager explained everything and refilled our drinks on him. Certainly, the right thing to do. Our server - Mara - was very personable, pleasant and has a great sense of humor. The delays were not her fault, and she dealt with it extremely professionally.
Dinner was served piping hot and delicious.
A return visit is definitely in the cards for us.
The dinner was perfect, with plates very well prepared.
The waitress (who speaks also italian) was very attentive and committed to give the best service. In addiction she gave us very useful informations about spending our days in Boston
I have already recommended it to one of my Boston Foodie friends! And my husband and I are booked for next week at their sister restaurant 80 Thoreau in Concord MA. The quality of the food, the imaginative presentation and friendly yet professional service are just what we like... love the decor, the view of "The Castle" and being able to hear yourself speak! We will definitely be back!
Excellent, innovative seafood
Always superb - never disappointing
Excellent overall experience
Such a great dining experience here. The staff was incredible and so attentive. The food was delicious! Perfect way to celebrate an anniversary.
OK , Why isn’t this restaurant packed when we go? Probably because we eat early. I can’t say enough good about it. Food is wonderful, service is perfect and the room is beautiful. I’d like to see more variety on the menu. We will be back.
Another amazing meal at Mooncusser. Ambiance and service is exceptional. As expected the striped bass was exquisitely prepared-moist center and skin crisped to perfection. Looking forward to returning soon!
This is an amazing restaurant!! The food was extraordinary: fresh and creative (but simple), bringing out the best from every ingredient. Great wine list. We are definitely coming back!
Third floor dining, need to take an elevator to reach the dining area. Very limited menu, with no vegetarian options. What they did, they did well. Scallops were perfectly grilled, homemade whole wheat pasta was delightful. There was only beer and wine, if you want a cocktail, you will need to wait until they get a full bar license.
Meh, food was average.
Magnificent dinner. The chowder, calamari salad and sea scallops were divine. The service was attentive and the ambience elegant but not ostentatious. A wonderful experience.
The service lacks the precision and finesse of the kitchen. We were on the nicer side of the subdivided room, but it all needs a rethink. Spare is fine, but the accent prints lack character and fail as accents.
The food was excellent! We tried every course and shared all the deserts! The almond cake was fabulous!! Loved the atmosphere... can’t say enough good things about our experience!
We very sorely disappointed in our meal at Mooncusser and were sorry that we had not heeded several of the other reviews on OpenTable. We started with a chowder - which turned out to be mostly potato and was very salty. We had been looking forward to having both the Blue Fish and Striped Bass (fish I had grown up on as a native New Yorker). We were sorely disappointed in both flavorless presentations - each fish may as well have been poached! In addition, the portion of fish delivered was shockingly small in proportion to the price.
The menu itself was incredibly limited as was the wine list. So disappointed were we in the overall experience that we went to a different restaurant for dessert...
Great meal for our last night. My scallops were perfect. Husband loved his chowder and bluefish. The service was polite and unobtrusive. Beautiful setting.
Oddly, it must have been a slow night because the dining room was mostly empty. Don't miss this one.
Great location: just near enough to the theater district to be out of the main crowd and be easily accessible. Take the elevator if you can’t walk the stairs. If you can walk the stairs, do it. It invigorates the experience of rising at the top and walking into the open, well-designed restaurant. Or stop before hand at the bar on the bottom floor for reinforcement before climbing up to the top. Interesting menu. Good wine selection. Good service.
This is an awesome restaurant if you have an adventurous palate and like fish. It's pricey but well worth the money for an upscale experience.
We enjoyed the overall experience of our meal. We like the location of the restaurant and the staff were friendly. The food was good quality and well prepared.
Finally had the chance to try Mooncusser after a friend recommendation. Well worth the trip as the food was exceptional and the service even better
Unbelievable dining experience!
Excellent creative food, super tasty, great wine recommendations and service was on point.
Highly recommend. One of the best meals i have probably ever had. Thank you Mooncusser staff :-)
Excellent staff and fantastic food. Absolutely worth a return visit!
High quality all around!
Nice supper. Curated menu. Food was slightly too self conscious. By great whole wheat pasta and the oysters were lovely. The cider mignonette was a very nice touch. Went well with the Cava. Very good Malmsey on the dessert menu
I hadn't been to Mooncusser since it opened in 2017. I had a great experience that time, and decided to return two years later for a business dinner. The restaurant was not very full, but despite that, service was excruciatingly slow. We waited an hour between appetizers and dinner. The food was excellent for the most part -- I had a great ceviche appetizer, and my companions seemed to enjoy their scallop and bluefish entrees. However, my lobster minestrone was lukewarm. The same was the case with the coffee I had with dessert. This restaurant, which serves some great food, would be so much better if the service were improved, and if the attention to detail which is clearly apparent in some dishes, was present for the entire menu.
To be honest, I was expecting more. The blue fish pate was something I was so excited to have and it was disappointing. The crackers were stale or something but overall not the right consistency . The pate was uneven and even though I love bluefish it was nothing to crave again.
I thought the fish chowder was good but my main entree of the pasta with mussels was very fishy. As a matter of fact once I ate one I couldn't continue. The meal felt heavy not light which I would have expected with the cuisine.
The desert was very good but not enough to elevate the experience.
The water person was very attentive and was on top of his game.
Very limited menu- needs to offer specials or change menu often because there are so few choices. Because we were told this isn’t the case, I would not choose to return very soon, which is unfortunate.
Wonderful food, professional staff, great experience!
