About

This restaurant is permanently closed. Permanently Closed - Monument Lane is a West Village bistro serving seasonal American fare featuring ingredients from regional farmers and growers who promote sustainable practices. The menu changes weekly, reflecting the restaurant's commitment to showcasing the local harvest.

Monument Lane takes its inspiration from the area's historically pastoral setting; when the land was once rich with salt marshes and grasslands, pure estuaries teamed with mussels and oysters, and acres of apple and cherry orchards bloomed nearby. In the 1700's and 1800's, New Yorkers came to Greenwich Village as a retreat to the countryside; traveling a road named Monument Lane, now called Greenwich Avenue, where the restaurant presently sits.

My husband and I lived in NYC for 15+ years and came in from the 'burbs for a nice night out. We loved this place! The hostess saved a nice table for us by the window, the service was friendly and accommodating and the farm to table food was delicious! We would highly recommend from one foodie to another!

Sunday Happy Hour is a great deal! Food was very good, a little pricey, but if you go for wine happy hour it's not too bad.

Really wonderful staff and thoughtful menu. Unfortunately, the noise level inside was so unbearable that we chose to dine outside, which is usually not my preference, but it seemed the lesser of two evils; however, one of us was seated on the metal sidewalk door to the basement, and every time a patron or waitstaff walked by, the table and chair experienced a mini-earthquake, which was a bit distracting, to say the least. Note to self . . . find at a less-popular time so indoors is not so loud that a conversation must be held at an above-normal level to be heard!

Lovely Settings with Good service. Unfortunately two of had The Brook Trout and bott of us foundation it tasteless and dry. The chicken dish was excellent. The management/staff was very apologetic and showed proper concern. Will try It again and will be hopeful.

This is a really cute restaurant. They are so committed to ambiance that the only lighting in the bathroom is candles (taking it a bit far - i could hardly see!). My date and I shared the French toast and pancakes. They were good, but not the best by any means. If I go again, I'll probably get a burger or sandwich. The service could've been better. The host didn't successfully log that I had shown up for my OpenTable reservation so I had to fix the mistake with OpenTable. The waitress could've been friendlier.

It was too loud. That was our main complaint. It had shown up on lists as a quiet restaurant igood for conversation. It was not. The music was loud, and a big party next to us was very loud as well. They did turn down the music when we asked. The food was fine. I hades softshell crab and chicken. And the waitress was very nice and informed

Monument Lane is a great spot in the west village. It's cozy and has a cool vibe and most importantly the food is super tasty. I recommend the steak or the burger special. Great date spot, too.

Just finished Mother's Day brunch here and everything was amazing!!! Decor is excellent (even the bathroom is beautiful) and everything we ordered was so delicious, including the drinks. Best buttermilk biscuits I've had. Service was excellent. Really great for a casual but lovely brunch. I also had my birthday here. Such a great find!

My Book Group has lunch here every month. We always find the food tasty and varied. Generally the atmosphere is quiet at lunch and we are able to have a good conversation. Unfortunately, this time we had a waitress who was continually rushing us and removing plates before we were finished without asking. Strange because the restaurant was only half full.

Truly lovely rustic space with super-knowledgeable waitstaff. Food is superb - go with recommendations from friendly waitstaff and you can't go wrong. Cocktail list is dangerously tempting, but I went with great recommendation from Jasmine and was happier than I should have been! Only downside is that there is offensive rap music playing in this upscale barn.

Had a birthday brunch here for 4 and really loved everything! Amazing biscuits, pancakes, and loved my sausage vegetable hash. The cocktail menu sounded intriguing as well. Very nice decor and they didn't rush us out even though the bar was super busy. Will definitely return!

Took my mother for lunch on a Tuesday. Was no need to make a reservation we were one of only two parties there. Will def be back for dinner because the ambiance being sort of French/Tuscan country/farm (old wood beams, chipping white paint tables, hanging dried flowers etc) was incredibly charming and homey - I can only imagine would be even moreso at night. Period jazz music ... the food - both taste and display was top notch. The menu is pescatarian/vegetarian friendly. I love a chef who has an appreciation for vegetables. We started w the kale/escarole salad with trout . Very filling and the kale was fresh and crisp. We split the celery root veggie (very unique - Ive had MANY veggie burgers and never seen this before), the veggie risotto - yum - though not as good as the veggie burger. The waitress was attentive, friendly, and educated on the wines they offered. Would be a great choice for a Fri or Sat night date spot or nice dinner with friends - nice without breaking the bank.

This is the third time I have eaten here in the last 6 months and unfortunately, I wished I had stopped after the second. The food is still good; however, regrettably the kitchen was off with a tasteless fish and an awful beet salad. What surprised me even more was that the service has declined so rapidly. Our server was far inferior to the previous two we have had and the service itself was just so slow; culminating with waiting almost 20 minutes for the donuts to arrive. I hope it gets back to where it was.

Went for the Senat farms chicken. Was very dissapouinted they no longer carry it. Had riocatta app. Very good. Burger was excellent! Late dinner so not to many people. Helped keep noise level down. Service was a little slow. But overall decent experience. The Senat farms chicken is the best I ever had, I will not go back unless it's back on the Menu.

Went for Sunday brunch. Delicious bread basket of coffee cakes, muffins, biscuits, etc. I had the scrambled eggs that were great with tasty potatoes. Lived the ambiance- pre-American revolution. Definitely would go back.

Food quality has gone down drastically since they have a new chef. Don't order the mussels, they were horrible and raw. I'm surprised we didn't get sick from them.

Loved the trout! Simply & perfectly prepared. My tequila cocktail was also extremely yummy. My husband ordered the chicken dish. Again, a simple yet wonderful preparation. And our compliments to the person stocking the bar (I'll take a Bell's Two Hearted Ale any day of the week). I've seen other reviews that knocked Monument Lane for being a bit too cozy (the tables-for-two are definitely close together). But it didn't diminish our enjoyment one bit (my husband's a big guy at 6'3" and he was very comfortable throughout the meal). Thanks!!

The food was lovely, as was our server. The restaurant has a nice cozy feel and nice bar. However, the person who greeted us (not sure whether she was the manager?) was extremely rude and unfriendly. She was standing at the door and turned her back on us after seeing us and left us standing for about 5 minutes while she had a conversation with staff. The restaurant wasn't reading for our 11am booking... which is fine, I don't mind waiting 15 minutes.. but she was so rude and unfriendly, it was really off-putting. A shame as I really love this place! The food is always awesome.
