Monty's Steakhouse - Springfield Ratings and Reviews
We have been to Monty's several times before as a couple and been quite happy. We were a bit larger party this time, and several in our party were unhappy with the service (spilled food, drifty waiter, etc.) Also, don't reheat their steak in the containers they give you -- they melt!
Discovered this place when craving a steak and my normal go to steakhouse closed. Boyfriend and I decided to try it out and I can honestly say completely worth every penny. After that fist visit I try to find any reason to go there and show my friends and family, birthday's, anniversaries or no reason at all. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful depending on who you get. Love the host always the same lady and she always makes you feel welcome and comes and checks on you.
I cannot believe that Monty's Steakhouse has been opened for 5 years and this was the first time I ate there...I won't wait another 5 years before my next visit, in fact, I will be back there again and again from now on. Fantastic food and service...and right in my neighborhood!
We’ve been here many times, and we love it. Brought my mom from out of town this time, and as if it couldn’t have gotten any better, it did. The steaks were all perfectly cooked to order, and service was perfect. Had a bottle of Duckhorn Merlot... gorgeous. Folks, this place is WAY better than Mike’s America Grill with MUCH better parking. Time to make a change.
Greeted at the door by the owner who is very friendly and anxious to please. The atmosphere was casual with a tinge of elegance. The tables are a bit close together but the restaurant was not crowded so it was not a factor. The service was slightly above average as the waiter was seemingly more into playing a role than actually providing service...but he pulled off okay service too. The food was outstanding. I think a good value for the combined service and food.
Food was good, not spectacular. Prices were spectacular, not good. Burger was advertised as "foie gras," but I didn't see it and onions were supposed to be carmelized, but were raw red onions. Chicken was advertised as including chicken livers, but none were found. Surf and turf, according to the two that ordered it, was very good, and perhaps worth the $50 price tag. Other meals were not worth the price. No kid's menu/choices were available, so we paid full price for the adult entrée. On the up side, this was a special birthday celebration and the hosts did a nice job, including a birthday card for the guest. So, 3 stars, but not more, and without the nice touches for the birthday guest, the rating would have been lower.
We frequently enjoy Monty's when the beltway and interstates are parking lots. It is an easy drive in Springfield, and the operation is well run and consistent.
For a "steakhouse". Monty's does an excellent job with seafood. My wife loved the smoked salmon and our guest raved about the sea bass. I enjoyed the Australian Mixed Grill. and it could easily feed two. Service was of very high quality.
We had a fabulous time last night celebrating our anniversary. The food was exceptional!!! There was a card signed individually by the entire staff, Hershey kisses on the table, glasses of champagne for all, and dessert. My husband is allergic to nuts so the carrot cake was not for him but they gave him delicious blueberry creme brulee. Everything was PERFECT!!!
I loved the attention to detail and how special we felt. We are thrilled that this fabulous restaurant is local. What a Gem!!
Beautiful classy atmosphere without having to go into DC. Much better value compared to other
high-end steakhouses of similar quality. Donna, the owner, is fantastic and makes such an effort to make it special meal. EXCEPTIONAL service. I've been there multiple times for special occasions and each time, the server is so attentive, polite, and knowledgeable. I really feel like I am in a 5-star restaurant. Such a charm having Monty's in Springfield.
We were in town visiting from NC, and chose Monty’s for a great steak dinner. When we arrived, we were very concerned because the restaurant was nearly empty. However, we got a favorable vibe when the owner personally greeted us and seated us. There was even a greeting card on the table for our anniversary - nice touch. Our waiter explained the menu options very well, and really seemed to enjoy his job. However, we came for a great meal and were very disappointed. It started off well with a very fresh and tasty Caesar salad, but quickly went downhill from there. I ordered a dry-aged ribeye, and it may have been the toughest, worst-tasting steak I have ever had. I literally had to saw through it to get a bite. My wife had a similar experience with her 4 oz filet. Both steaks were covered with an unknown brown sauce that was not mentioned in the menu description and which contributed to the poor experience. My wife’s asparagus was resting on and covered with a spicy (to her) tomato concoction - again, I don’t recall this in the menu description. She tried wiping it off, but it had totally infused the asparagus, which thus went largely untouched. We chose not to have dessert, but were graciously provided with a mini-cheesecake to take with us. When we decided to eat it, we each took one bite and agreed that it was not good at all and tossed it. Lastly, while the prices were somewhat in line with Ruth’s Chris, the quality of the meal was well below a good steakhouse and the steaks were not even on a par with what you might get at Denny’s. Very disappointing for an anniversary dinner. Loved the people, but we will not return and will not recommend Monty’s.
The dry aged Porterhouse for two was very tasty with large portions. The veal Demi glaze that came with the entree was spot on. The dry aged New York Strip, nice and thick. All steaks were grilled as requested. We couldn't decide on a Cabernet Sauvignon to go with the steak. Miss Donna offered a taste of 2 wines for us to try, since we were ordering a bottle. We chose the one from Finca was a nice pairing.
We had been here a couple years earlier and were not impressed. We decided to try it again as an experiment. It was obvious from the moment we entered something had changed and for the better. The ambiance is much nicer; the service is more attentive; and the general feel was of a higher quality. The menu is very good with concentration on varieties of steak and seafood. The food was very good, and the desserts as well. One thing we usually do to see if a steak restaurant is truly high quality is to ask for wine based on characteristics and see what the staff suggest and bring. They did very well matching both requests and the wine was enjoyable and reasonably priced. Overall, this is an excellent local high quality steak and seafood place and we were surprised and pleased it has done so well morphing.
Recommended by friends, food is amazing, the beef is properly aged and prepared to reveal amazing flavors, the sides are tailored to enhance the main course and service is spot on. Birthdays, anniversaries, friends from out of town and occasional date night with spouse. No pressure, just great food.
Monty's Steakhouse is a real find! Apparently, it has been within a 10-minute car ride from my home for over 5-years. What a shame that I can't get back all the time that my wife and I could have spent dining at Monty's over those 5-years. We dined on a Tuesday evening for our wedding anniversary. When we were first seated, an anniversary card, signed by the entire staff, was waiting on our table. Plus, there was a plethora of table candles surrounded by Hershey Candy Kisses. Then came the complimentary champagne. While these touches were unforgettable, the culinary experience was the high-water mark for the evening. Dining at a steakhouse, you expect to enjoy high quality meats. The choices of meat types and cuts at Monty's are plentiful and my wife indulged herself with a bone-in 44 oz. cut that covered half of her plate. But, the accommodation of my vegetarian restrictions truly demonstrated Monty's customer service focus. The wine list was also very impressive, including many New World and Old World selections. Finally, the complementary dessert, presented on a plate with hand-written congratulations in chocolate icing finished-off a truly wonderful dinner. Monty's is now on our "go-to" list of restaurants!!
It was our anniversary and I wanted steak. Monty's was recommended by a friend/colleague. This is a local steakhouse, it compares in price with Ruth's Cris but entree's come with a side, additional sides are a la cart. The service was superb the waitstaff was attentive without being intrusive and the owner stopped by to check in on us! The food was excellent! We shared the dry-aged porterhouse for two and it was cooked perfectly. The desserts topped off our meal; all desserts are made in house, the creme brulee is light with the perfect taste of vanilla and the lemon-cello tiramisu was excellent.
Outstanding steaks, cooked exactly as we requested. Twice-baked potatoes were excellent too, and the highlight was the extraordinarily light multilayer cake, given (free) for our birthday celebration. Our waiter was attentive and not overbearing. The menu selection was quite varied, and the décor pleasing, with beautiful paintings on the walls. The music was subdued and worked effectively to block out others' conversations. Memorable, and we'll be back.
Impeccable and not rushed service in this neighborhood find that was used to have a romantic dinner for a spouses birthday. Extensive list of steaks but plenty of other options as well. Fantastic presentation and prices about equivalent to any of the major steak chain restaurants.
We sat outside on the patio. There were 5 of us and our two dogs. They brought out a water bowl for the dogs right away. The service was amazing the food delicious, we all had steaks and they done to perfection. The crime brûlée and tiramisu were fabulous and the Malbec was perfect. Highly recommend it
We love meeting our friend from Springfield for dinner all over the DC Metro area, and I realized that we'd never met up near her home in Springfield. Quick scan of Open Table and several rave reviews about Monty's, and we were convinced...I can confirm that the rave reviews are well justified. I will reiterate what most of their regulars say: Monty's customer service is second to none! We were treated like family from beginning to end, and everything we tried tasted like it was prepared at a restaurant with double the price point. If you want fabulous cuisine without the pretentious vibe (visually Monty's is extremely appealing) this is your place! We tasted the soup of the day (mushroom w/ crab, amazing), shrimp cocktail (solid), salads (perfect) with fried oysters added on top (possibly my favorite taste of the evening), and the restaurant was even nice enough to split the grilled Chilean sea bass my wife and I wanted to taste. I normally don't prefer white wine, but they have my favorite (Caymus Conundrum) by the glass, and I couldn't resist. It paired perfectly with Monty's delicious fish drizzled with their homemade lemon/garlic/wine (?) marinade...I wanted to lick the plate! I am already excited to make the 20-min drive from Vienna again (with some more friends) to tuck into their Argentinian Mixed Grill. This is the special kind of local restaurant that does everything the right way, and is a true gem within their community! Keep up the great work. :)
Nice local find! Walked past here a hundred times, came for a drink at the bar once then finally came for dinner. The place is never ever crowded so we were skeptical, but we were pleasantly surprised. The food was tasty and the portions were perfect. We had the Chilean Sea Bass and Double cut Filet Mignon (super tender) and both were great! We added the brussel sprouts (which didn't have the bacon as advertised) and the truffle fries...yum, yum!! The bar always has 3-4 or more people at it each time we walk by, it is a nice to have a cocktail and some conversation without having to yell over the music or other people like other places. I'd recommend it to friends and we will go back.
Monty's vies with Afghan Bistro as the best overall restaurant in Springfield. Service by Pleas was top notch and the food was excellent. If you enjoy seafood, try the sea bass, as our guest found it delicious. Kudos to the bartender for two fine cucumber martinis. A fine place for an evening out, particularly on the week nights when the place is less crowded.
Perhaps we arrived on an "off" evening. We had dined here in the past and found it to be quite an enjoyable atmosphere and meal, not so much this time. Food was subpar. Crab cakes were drowned in unnecessary sauce, bone-in filet laden with excessive fat. Dessert was tragic, apple pie supposedly fresh baked tasted of freezer burn- first time we've had an inedible dessert.
To note: The wedge salad and calamari were the two bright spots of the meal.
Restaurant was empty and it seemed our server wasn't too enthused to be working that evening, very lacking in attentiveness. We won't be returning any time soon.
Monty's is a rare and delicious find tucked away in a non descript strip center in Springfield, VA. The owner, Donna, is a friendly and attentive hostess. Together with her staff and chef , she has created a delicious and varied menu serving well prepared steaks, seafood, and poultry. The sides included are delicious as well, and the perfect finale may be yielding to the pleasures of a delicious dessert or just eyeing the assortment of beautifully prepared desserts. Every time I visit I enjoy the food, service, and welcome I receive.
