Looking forward to hosting you soon!
Arrived for my reservation on a date....the restaurant was permanently closed with no notice. What a bummer.
we had a reservation for 8 pm and received a phone call at 5 saying the restaurant had to close due to refrigeration problems.
Are you kidding? The night was a disaster! We arrived at Montresor only to see that it was closed and shuttered. No one at Open Table bothered to let us know, so we had to scramble for another restaurant to go to that evening. Very upsetting and poor management on Open Table's part.
The restaurant closed temporarily and didn’t have the courtesy to call people like me who had reservations. My friend and I had to find another restaurant to celebrate her birthday when we arrived to find it closed.
Montresor is CLOSED!!! And yet they excepted my reservation on Open Table.
Also, they even texted me the confirmation number for our reservation the day of.
When we got there, the valet for several restaurants, said they were closed. When I called the number, the outgoing message stated that they were closed for reservations and would open again on December 7, which was the week before! Update your information Montresor and if you're closed then let Open Table know that!!!!!
This place owes us a free dinner! It was my mother-in-law's 91rst birthday and she really wanted French food. We had to scramble to find another place to take us last minute, which was quite difficult! But Ca De Sol made the night very memorable for her.
We checked past reviews, made our reservation, received our confirmation, dressed up and drove 16 miles on an LA freeway in the dark and pouring rain. Parking is difficult here but we did find a space and waited for them to open. Our reservation time came up, but guess what??? THE RESTAURANT WAS A NO-SHOW.
The place was dark. I called the restaurant and their recording said that they are closed for remodeling until friday.
Next we accessed Open Table to make another reservation for that night, OT said that we could not because we already had one for that evening. Then we attempted to cancel the Montresor reservation, OT then said that we had to call Montresor to do that. Of course no one was answering the phone at Montresor so we could not cancel our reservation and we could not make a new one.
So then we just drove 16 miles back to home in the dark and pouring rain.
We want to thank everyone for a fun evening.
Thank you Montresor for not calling us.
Thank you Open Table for not allowing us to make a new reservation.
Terrible, terrible, terrible
Great food and nice atmosphere. Will definitely go back
The place is adorable like a French bistro. The appetizers of black mussels was plentiful and delicious. My steak tartare over SL spicy avocado sauce was terrific and the bread fir both was excellent. The salmon was a little done for my wife and me. The duck confit needed to be crispier but taste was great for both. Only 3 choices for dessert. Profiteroles really good. Needs a higher than 4.4 rating
A++++++ food and service. And promotion.
The food is always exceptional here, but on Sunday they had a singer/harpist playing and singing. It was a bit too loud. I am not one who likes live entertainment while I eat. She was good, but the amplifier was too loud.
Staff couldn't have been friendlier and all four of our meals were delicious. Thank you for a great evening.
This was our sixth visit, and the third with guests. As always, the food was excellent, being a modern updating of French bistro food, with some unusual specials. An extremely enjoyable place to eat, with the addition now of live guitar music. Our foodie guests have been impressed, and will probably become regular diners in the future.
I made a reservation to celebrate our anniversary. I confirmed said reservation 2 days before. I arrived with my wife all dressed up and ready to celebrate only to find out that the place has been closed for a week for filming. Very disappointed that nobody from the restaurant bothered to call and let us know and even allowed us to make and confirm a reservation. There are only a few tables in this restaurant. How hard would it have been to call a few people? Very unprofessional.
So I really can’t write a review but I’m writing because I made reservations for my birthday on a day and time that they were supposed to be open and they were closed. I had to rearrange my whole night which I was really annoyed about. Otherwise I’m sure it would’ve been great.
I made a reservation about 2 or 3 weeks in advance for my husbands birthday. We were driving up from San Diego and were excited to have a nice dinner. However, when our Uber dropped us off at the restaurant early for our reservation- IT WAS CLOSED. We stood outside trying to figure out how to get in for a few minutes before finding a sign stating that the restaurant was closed for filming! I just could not believe that they could not even have the courtesy to call back their reservations to inform people.
I made a reservation on Open Table, I got a confirmation, then the next day I went to look at the website of the restaurant, to see the menu. There was an announcement the the restaurant was closed for filming. I could only call the evening of the reservation. Same message, closed for filming. So I ended up with a very mediocre anniversary dinner, because getting reservations on a Saturday afternoon for that night at any good place was impossible.
If Montresor wants to be a restaurant they should put customers first, clearly they are only interested in making money off Hollywood and not giving service to people who may want to eat there.
We made a reservation for this restaurant on Open Table. We were excited to try it as it had been recommended by several friends. However when we arrived the valet told us they were closed for filming. Sure enough that’s what the sign said. But the restaurant never reached out to us to advise that the reservation would not be honored. Not cool!!!
Made reservation 3 days in advance , when arrived the restaurant was closed , valet attendant for the neighboring restaurant told us that the place was closed for 5 days ,
It was a special occasion had reservation for 6 persons ,
Can’t figure it out how ignorant the booking system and the restaurant menagment is , if they were closed why they were taking reservations, ?????
A French jewel hidden in plain sight on Ventura Bouldevard, Montresor always offers what I value most: a mostly-traditional French menu on which every dish is worthy of recommendation, creative decor, uncrowded tables that allow conversation, and superior service. I have dined at Montresor six times, but this is the first review I have written, because I was afraid it would become impossible to book, but it's not, if you do so a week or so in advance. One of the best French restaurants in town.
It’s our new favorite place
The ambience is great. Service is very good. The menu is very French but limited. Prices are a little high.
Onion soup was more bread than soup. Chicken breast could have one more vegetable besides cauliflower.
Crab cakes are delicious. Coq au vin was very good but only dark meat. Wine list limited. If you don't eat duck, rabbit or beef, then your choices are few.
We have been here a few times and each visit excels in all categories. Food is outstanding and teh serviec is amazing.
Perfect ambiance, excellent food and service. This small restaurant is a true gem since they opened their doors in February.
It became a certain outstanding experience to go to Montrésor. Simply love it
Montresor serves a very classic, French bistro kind of menu. Except: the decor is much fancier, and the service is much better, than any Bistro I've visited in France. The menu is bistro inspired, but I found the preparation to be of high order. Everything was very flavorful and perfectly cooked. I'm very much looking forward to my next visit!
The food came so late. The service was disappointing and at the end the food was really bad too. Don’t ruin your night by going there.

Food and service is consistently good.
This restaurant should be on the Eater essentials in the San Fernando Valley. It’s one of the few local restaurants serving quality cuisine in a beautiful eclectic setting. Service is excellent. The wine list is very good and the menu is French bistro with a modern twist. This is not just another Gastro pub with small plates where people scream to be heard. This is where you come for food, wine and conversation and yet it is not stuffy or old school at all. I only wish we had more restaurants with this sort of individuality in the area.
Had a lovely sunday afternoon rendevous...had the entire patio to ourselves.
Terribly "unprofessional" management and staff. We had an OpenTable reservation for 8:30 pm and were seated only 50 minutes later. Thereafter, half of our table could not order what they wanted because the "kitchen ran out". Oh joy - it's safe to say that we are not going back!
Another tasty, delectable, amazing meal at Montresor! Consistently fabulous!
This was the 2nd time in a week I was there. Both times the wait for food (with no one else in the restaurant when we came in) was interminable. Am not sure if I would go back because of that.
The menu is very limited, and, in fact, the menu was changed while we were sitting there with all prices higher.
Although I love the place itself, it seems to be run very amateruishly.
Fantastic experience. Service was impeccable. Victor was friendly and engaging. Great food. This is a hidden gem!
Service a little slower than usual, think there was aback up in kitchen. Menu is small and concise, they could have been a little more on their game!!
Everything was great. Refined menu. They’re appealing to French food enthusiasts rather than a multi page menu trying to appeal to everyone. Highly recommend for brunch or dates.
What a great restaurant! This is one of the most romantic restaurants I have been in. The service is extremely attentive and nothing short of fantastic. The food was unforgettable and the atmosphere is VERY romantic. It is a small place, but so worth the drive. I have been here twice and look forward to coming back. Keep up the great work!!!!
Beautifully decorated space which enhanced the dining experience. A quality not quantity menu, and every thing we ordered off it was outstanding, soup to nuts. The whole waitstaff was attentive and fun!
Will be coming back soon, and bringing friends with us.
We came here for Sunday brunch and were disappointed at the menu. The selection was very limited and nothing very exciting on the menu. The best part was the live music playing - a young woman playing the harp and singing.
Food, decor, service and overall it’s a great dining experience
