With a bright and welcoming ambience reminiscent of a European bistro, Montmartre serves elegant French fare in a casual and inviting setting. Starter options include the rustic pate with toasted baguette and pickled vegetables and the chilled asparagus with lemon oil and almond hummus. House specialties include the eggy custard quiche Lorraine with bacon and caramelized onions, the mussels marinieres sautéed in garlic, shallots and white wine and the savory Normande buckwheat crepe with smoked salmon and crème fraiche. The ideal way to round out your meal at Montmarte is to try one of its desserts, such as the flourless chocolate tart with white chocolate and raspberry sauces enjoyed with a hot cup of fresh brewed French roast coffee.
On days with lovely weather, try to get a seat on Montmartre's outdoor patio to enjoy your meal in the warm sunshine and refreshing breeze.
mixed greens, dried cherries, roasted potatoes, apples, goat cheese, honey-red wine vinaigrette
potato-fontina gratin, crispy kale, maitake mushrooms, charred onion, classic red wine sauce
fingerling potatoes, crispy chorizo, harissa aioli, fennel chutney
Food and service are always lovely. A nice treat out!
Montmartre is our favorite restaurant in DC. We love the atmosphere and the food, and with half-price on bottles of wine, Sunday is a great time to go. We've eaten there dozens of times, with friends and out of town guests. We've never had a bad meal or even a bad course. The menu isn't extensive, but what is there is done perfectly. Book a table and be guaranteed a wonderful evening.
The very best food and wine. Great experience.
One of our favorite restaurants on the Hill.
Very noisy room, crowded tables inside.
Will be fabulous eating outside when weather permits.
We were seated promptly. Orders were taken in an efficient and timely matter. Food was delicious. Wine selection was great. Felt well taken care of.
Phenomenal server and bartender!!! Food was great as well but the first 2 made the experience even better. Would highly recommend!
Dinner at Montmartre was fabulous....both the food and the service. And the wine recommendation complemented everyone's meals perfectly....not always possible when there are 4 different entrees. We'll come back as soon as we can!
The neighborhood did not seem enticing. But once in the restaurant, all improved immediately. The menu, and the fare were very français. And the service was superb.
One of our favorite go to restaurants. Terrific food and not pretentious. Everything is wonderful.
Excellent food and wine list. Lovely service that is attentive but not fawning.
Per usual, the welcoming Waite Staff was great and the food and wine were superb.
We had a great time and the service was very good. This is a true bistrot!
Great seafood options but everything on the meu is good
Food and service were outstanding. Interior not too impressive for a Capitol Hill restaurant.
Had dinner at Montmarte Sat, 2/15/2020. Graceful and efficient service from everyone. The food was fantastic: escargot in a pesto oil, rabbit leg with mushrooms, baby carrots and linguine, seafood all cooked to perfection and served piping hot, which shouldn't be an issue but this is where many restaurants fall short. Intimate and cozy and beautiful to sit and enjoy. Will most assuredly visit agin next time in the city and send others to them as well. Simply perfect meals.
Outstanding food and service in a trendy downtown DC neighborhood.
Fabulous food—really delicious. We had a big meat eaters, seafood lovers, and a vegetarian in our group, and everyone loved their food! There is a main dish that’s vegetarian, but the vegetarian had onion soup, an endive salad, and a side of yummy Swiss chard made with hazelnuts. Plenty filling and scrumptious. The restaurant is on the pricey side, but it’s worth it. Portions are good and food is well prepared. Atmosphere is cozy and service is very good.
Everything was fine and that would be ok, but it should be great for the price.
Even though we live in the neighborhood we hadn’t been to Montmartre in many years. On a previous occasion their scornful refusal to cobble together a vegetarian entree for one in our party left a bad taste in our mouth (she made do with a soup and salad), but sheesh! Nevertheless we are aware of all the rave reviews that the restaurant garners, so my husband and I decided to give it another try for Valentine’s Day. I have to say we were delighted. Lovely hand-crafted cocktails to start. They offered a three-course prix fixe meal that was spectacular: chestnut soup and duck breast for my husband, salad and Arctic char for me. My husband marveled at how tender and flavorful the duck breast was. He had a beautiful raspberry mousse-cake for dessert, and Grand Mariner creme brûlée for me. They have a fabulous wine list, and we shared a bottle of a white Chateau-Neuf-du-pape which is a rare find. I couldn’t help noticing that the prix fixe menu actually included one vegetarian option! Good for you Montmartre. This is a neighborhood gem appropriate for a special occasion, with fabulous food, good service, and elegant ambiance. We will be back.
Excellent food and service, very diligent personnel!
Montmartre for lunch with a friend was wonderful as always--friendly staff, warm inviting atmosphere, great food. A gem of our neighborhood.
Great food and atmosphere. I would highly recommend.
Better than ever! We celebrated Valentine’s Day early and were delighted by the food, wine, and service.
Very good French place. The food is super authentic. I had the rabbit leg and chocolate mousse which were both very good.
The best French restaurant! Specials are worth it. Could benefit from a menu makeover for the Spring. Cassoulet works well in colder weather.
A good, steady neighborhood restaurant. I have always been greeted with a smile and the food is always nicely presented and good. A very comfortable spot for late lunch.
Eating at Montmartre makes one wonder what is wrong with the Washingtonian Magazine's food critics,
who have never given this marvelous place the number of stars it deserves. For a recent meal, a European guest and I had (1) the best calves liver I have ever eaten and (2) the best seafood stew he had ever eaten. Plus, the wines were being sold at half price and we had a lovely bottle of St. Joseph's. Couldn't have been better or more welcoming.
We went for an early anniversary dinner- food and service was excellent! Authentic French food that is delicious without being overpriced! Love this place!
i had liver and Isle Flotante. Both excellent. Noise level was tolerable. A superg evening.
Mussels were excellent as usual. The salads were refreshing, drinks also refreshing.
Service was attentive.
Montmartre is always a good choice,
Great food and a welcoming atmosphere, which we particularly appreciate with our two little kids. Everyone loved the meal, as usual, and my husband and I were reminded that we are lucky to live on the Hill and near this wonderfully approachable yet high quality restaurant.
Absolutely everything is great - including the service. A hidden gem.
It is always special go go to Montmarte and I can never resist Isle Flottante for dessert!
Consistently great! We have never been disappointed at Montmartre over the 20 plus years we have been dining here. The wait service folks are friendly, professional and highly knowledgeable. The menu offers their specialties like cassoulet and rabbit and a constant variety of fresh seafood. It is the best restaurant on Capitol Hill.
I’ve been coming to Montmartre for more than 15 years. The level of the food offered there is phenomenal. The preparation is always incredible with a great atmosphere. They deserve a Michelin Star. Their lunch, dinner and brunch are spectacular. We’ve come to know the staff and truly cherish their passion for Montmartre.
The food was outstanding. We enjoyed the entire experience.
