With a bright and welcoming ambience reminiscent of a European bistro, Montmartre serves elegant French fare in a casual and inviting setting. Starter options include the rustic pate with toasted baguette and pickled vegetables and the chilled asparagus with lemon oil and almond hummus. House specialties include the eggy custard quiche Lorraine with bacon and caramelized onions, the mussels marinieres sautéed in garlic, shallots and white wine and the savory Normande buckwheat crepe with smoked salmon and crème fraiche. The ideal way to round out your meal at Montmarte is to try one of its desserts, such as the flourless chocolate tart with white chocolate and raspberry sauces enjoyed with a hot cup of fresh brewed French roast coffee.
On days with lovely weather, try to get a seat on Montmartre's outdoor patio to enjoy your meal in the warm sunshine and refreshing breeze.
Restaurant was packed, but the service was still very good. I had the calf’s liver, and it was the best I’ve ever had in my 74 years on the planet.
Great location, good restaurant, good food. However, the tables are too close together and it was very noisy.
The service was OK, but the waiter did not fully understand out order.
Delicious food and wine. The service was attentive but they were a bit over-stretched.
We had a lovely lunch! Best quiche ever!
Montmartre is one of the few DC restaurants that I always dine at when I’m in DC. No disappointment this time just as the last 20 times.
Wonderful, classic French bistro. Everything about Montmartre is wonderful.
We have been eating at Montmartre regularly over the last five years and find it consistently excellent. The food, service, ambience, wine selection are all wonderful. It's a gem, not only for the Capitol Hill neighborhood, but for all of DC.
Nice small bistro. We only did salads and wine, but it was a great post-show option and the staff was very friendly.
The food was very good. Be aware that this is not a cozy romantic French cafe, which is what I was looking for. It is a crowded, noisy restaurant with a modern design. That said, the service was very good and quick. We had a 4-top in the center of the room for 2 of us. I never felt too crowded. The St Emilion under $40 was really good and the waiter decanted it when I asked and gave me a sip to try first since they also sold this by the glass. The Dijon mussels, foie gras, and seared octopus were delicious. The glazed baby carrots seemed too sweet at dinner and the potatos gratin too tough, so these went uneaten. However, the next day, cold, the carrots were fantastic. The potatos were too rich and still too tough. I would definitely return.
Food and service were excellent. Slight delay for our reservation, but they gave us a free round at the bar and the service plus food more than made up for it
Excellent food. Always eat here when in DC. Neighborhood atmosphere. Nice energy. Waiter even corrected our French.
Noise level ranking is due to acoustics which made it hard to hear your dinner conversation. Food was decent.
The scallops were outstanding: perfectly cooked. Perfect creme brûlée too.
We always have dinner at Montmartre before going to the Folger Theatre a few blocks away. And it is always a five star experience! I had my usual house salad and octopus and my companions had a variety of things. All of us were well satisfied, and particularly after sharing one order of ice cream and a cup of coffee.
The service was excellent, the ambience was perfect, and the price was quite reasonable. Highly recommended for any occasion.
Montmartre has been a favorite for several years. It does not disappoint.
Consistently good. Bistro French food at its' best. Chef in the kitchen is creative and cares. Staff friendly and courteous. Highly recommend.
Very noisy, uncomfortable seats, my steak was so tough I cdn’t eat it.
Have been going to Montmartre for years, and it continues to be consistently good.
We expected more from a restaurant like this. Food should include gluten free and lactose free options. Service should not be a replica of Parisian service (fast read of the menu, impersonal, rather cold waiter) since we are paying rather pricey and including tips, unlike in France. Desserts should be fresh and not defrosted (this is not a cheap restaurant). I hope this restaurant improves on those fronts.
The meal is always fantastic at Montmartre..... but the noise and the draft on a cold wintery night were very distracting. I am sure the management struggle with the issue of decibel volume for their staff as well as their guests.... isn't there any way to create some sound proofing? And the seats near the windows are frigid on a winter evening. Every time the door opens or closes the guests seated near the entrances are blasted with cold air.
However the restaurant was packed and even with a reservation, there was no choice for seating.
One of my favorite go-to restaurants! So glad they joined open table. Always have tasty meals here and the staff are courteous and efficient. I also like how they put the specials on a clipboard now (though if they could include the prices for the specials that would be a bonus-- they used to just tell you verbally what it was but didn't this time).
Food was good. But the service was slow even though we went on weekday for lunch where the there's wasn't much of a crowd.
Things were good except for the staggering drunk....he was finally removed, but should not have been allowed to become so extremely intoxicated in the first place.
Nice cozy spot for a satisfying dining experience. The wine was good and the food was well prepared. It was not too noisy even though all the tables were full and the space quite small. I think a reservation is necessary because it appears to be a popular destination for diners of all types.
Food is always good here. Noise level is really bad.
The fish stew lacked flavor.
We love the floating Island and the salads.
Reminded us of eating in Paris. The food and wine were all amazing. The waiter spoke some French which was a nice touch for a great date night.
Really good food. Nice place. And easy access to parking.
This place has become our to go place for comfort food and good company in a relaxing environment with great food and service. The four of us in our party immediately commented on how it was a perfect place for dinner - we all needed a break from a hectic week.
Wonderful restaurant for Valentines dinner. The food and service were both impeccable.
A very special Valentine meal at our favorite restaurant! Wonderful selection of choices in a prix fixe dinner, superbly prepared and the always friendly, efficient service. Top-notch all around.
A great restaurant! Good service, a superb menu. For lunch or dinner.
Wonderful food and service! Great value. We had 2 bottles of wine and dinner for 4 for $240. We will definitely be back, especially once the weather warms up and we can enjoy the outdoor seating.
I love Montmartre -- superb French cooking with modern twists, and comfortable/cozy with NO kitschy decor. Plus a good wine selection, attentive service, not too loud... Been coming for probably 20 years, and have never been disappointed -- always happy I went!
My wife and I have been coming to Montmartre since it opened. We expect and always get the best of bistro French food in the City. We came early to allow time to eat at a leisurely pace and still make it to our theater performance. We were there when the restaurant opened and after being seated we took our time to choose our dinner. We each had an appetizer and a main course.
To start my wife had the creamed soup and I had the brandade. Both we excellent an exceeded our expectations. The mains were equally wonderful. My wife had the venison tenderloin special which was cooked perfectly. I chose the cassoulet which has been one of my favorites.
Montmartre’s was excellent. The beans were soft but not mealy. There was a generous portion of sausage, pork belly, terrine and an entire confit quarter. It was all delicious and as a bonus I was able to bring a bottle of wine from home and pay a reasonable corkage fee. To finish we shared the Ille flottante for dessert. It was delicious again and is one of the main reasons we continue to come back year after year.
The service was efficient, cordial and timely. We finished in plenty of time to make it to the theater. This restaurant continues to be exceptional and explains why we look forward to coming back.
First time in a long time. Excellent food choices, but would recommend more seasoning for the seafood stew. Rather bland till I added salt and pepper.
My friend's braised rabbit was quite good.
For dessert, we had the trio gelato, and the chocolate mousse. I would have preferred not to have the chocolate bits on the mousse and a dollop of whipped cream instead.
My two cents worth.
Very good food. Nice service. Very noisy. With no fabric to soften the sound very hard to hear as the tables were close together.
Celebrating new job!
I had said that we were celebrating a birthday in my reservation, but it was never mentioned.
Waiters seemed busy connecting with “ regulars “.
We booked on the early side as we had grandmother who was celebrating 83, and 13 yo grand daughter.
Had not been here in years. The menu was still delicious. I had the soup to start and steak tartare. Highly recommend for lunch.
