With a bright and welcoming ambience reminiscent of a European bistro, Montmartre serves elegant French fare in a casual and inviting setting. Starter options include the rustic pate with toasted baguette and pickled vegetables and the chilled asparagus with lemon oil and almond hummus. House specialties include the eggy custard quiche Lorraine with bacon and caramelized onions, the mussels marinieres sautéed in garlic, shallots and white wine and the savory Normande buckwheat crepe with smoked salmon and crème fraiche. The ideal way to round out your meal at Montmarte is to try one of its desserts, such as the flourless chocolate tart with white chocolate and raspberry sauces enjoyed with a hot cup of fresh brewed French roast coffee.
On days with lovely weather, try to get a seat on Montmartre's outdoor patio to enjoy your meal in the warm sunshine and refreshing breeze.
Wonderful as always
The friendly service at this consistently wonderful Capitol Hill restaurant makes any dinner a special occasion.
The food, particularly the dijon mussels, was incredible.
Too cramped to be wholly enjoyable. All in all - good just not great.
The food at Montmartre is comforting, home cooked, and delicious! It was a mild evening and lots of diners inside, which made the inside nice and quiet. Rather unusual!
Our waiter was good, but a little hard to understand.
Wine prices were high so with two glasses each our bill turned out to be pretty high.
But the meal was amazing.
We were celebrating a birthday and a complimentary dessert was provided for the birthday guy and service was just right.
As always great food, good service and a pleasing ambience
Amazing food and great service. Reminds me of my time in France!
The food and service were excellent and the value was comparable to any other DC French Bistro!
Our martinis were expertly crafted and served cold. Our appetizers, foie gras and an excellent presentation of cod in sourdough bread were splendid. She had the rabbit and I had the cassoulet, both were excellently prepared, French country style and served hot an expertly seasoned.
We over-dressed for the occasion and this is definitely a gem where you can go in dressed casually and come out feeling like a king because of the exquisite cuisine.
it was a lovely French experience in DC with wonderful service and wine 🍷 recommendations 😎
Always the best food on Capitol Hill. Well prepared French classics and a daily specials. We always do special occasions here.
Excellent food and service as always. The noise level is a problem
Food and value worth repeating again soon. Each of our party of four had different entres and all were outstanding.
Always a classic meal, close to home with a great wine selection even better with 1/2 price on Sundays
A perfect evening. Guillaume’s service and recommendations combined with outstanding appetizers (don’t miss the chicken liver mousse) and mains. The creme brûlée was the best we have had in years. Dine outside - I couldn’t have picked a better restaurant to (re)propose to my wife after 30 years. And heartfelt thanks for the complementary champagne!
Hands down one of the most dependably nice places to eat out in Capitol Hill.
Food and service are always great...warm and inviting atmosphere. Unpretentious but elegant. I feel fortunate to have this place in my neighborhood.
Montmartre is one of my favorite restaurants in DC...and has been for 20 years! Always great food, lovely French bistro ambiance, wonderful patio if weather permits, great value...lots of competition these days but I will always choose Montmartre if choice left to me...
Always and excellent place to enjoy dinner and the weekend brunch!!
A nice place that I go to often. Good service, good food, good atmosphere...
The food was average. I expected better based on the reviews. My salmon wasn't cooked well. The aperitif we had was tasteless. We wont be back.
Spectacular food in a boisterous, casual (paper napkins and pour your own wine) environment. Wonderful wine list.
Continues to be our favorite! There’s nothing more to write; it’s our “go-to” for a relaxing and delicious meal. This time we took our daughter who was visiting from NYC. She was jealous that she didn’t have such a spot near her home.
Great welcome, interesting menu and delicious food, washed down with wine at Tuesday half price. Best meal this trip, by far.
Terrific seafood, including Dijon Mussels and Tuna Tartare. Love the half-price wine nights on Tuesdays and Sundays. Excellent brunch too.
I always have a great meal at Montmartre, and love that it’s in my neighborhood! The service can be slow at times, though. My mom and I were taking our time, so t wasn’t a huge deal, but it took longer than it should to get our check. I think we had to ask three times and it was not particularly busy, as it was 9pm.
Excellent as usual. The Indoor eating area was completely full at 8 PM; sound absorbent material somewhere would have been helpful. Kudos to management for the outstanding offer of 50% off wine bottles on Sunday/Tuesday. Excellently prepared food and wonderful wines; wow what a combination.
The house salad was really feeble. It was just a bowl of green, crude and flavorless. The cheese plate and espresso were tasty. Unfortunately my impression is that there has been a definite falloff in the quality of the cuisine in recent months. This is a serious loss as it has been our favorite bistro. Before I was eager to repeat a visit. Now I am apprehensive about ending up with a mediocre meal.
I’ve been coming here for years — I love the location, the food is straight up outstanding, there is an excellent wine list, and it’s a very pleasant neighborhood ambience.
However, I had brought friends with me who had not been before and I was struck and embarrassed by the poor service, which they of course noticed also. The staff appears to be new —if not brand new —and they’re in desperate need of some guidance and training. Fingers crossed this will be resolved by my next visit 😘🇫🇷
Because of bare walls and ceiling and floor gets very noisy, hard for a conversation especially with tables squeezed in everywhere.
Consistently great French bistro food! Always safe to recommend to friends.
Food was fabulous!! Service was professional!
Montmartre is such a wonderful and consistently exceptional neighborhood restaurant. Their menu is diverse and every dish we have tried as regular diners has been intelligently composed, well prepared and promptly served. It is nice to be able to count on a hot meal being served while it is still hot; delightful! The real deal is found on Sunday and Saturday nights when, in addition to enjoying a great meal, we take advantage of their policy of discounting every wine on their good wine list fifty percent. It is joy to be able to hove our meals accompanied by an excellent bottle of wine at a very reasonable price. The servers are experienced, knowledgeable about the wines and willing to make recommendations. We've come to love their wine policy and have regularly benefited by experiencing some delicious wine choices. Happily, the restaurant is not large which preserves its intimacy and maintains its character as a neighborhood bistro, It also helps to keep the noise level comfortable for business and intimate conversations. The management of this restaurant is always welcoming, ever helpful and never pretentious. Because they maintain a high level of service, we have great confidence to entertain guests there. All in all, Montmartre is a terrific value and a gem of a neighborhood restaurant.
I have always enjoyed lunch or dinner at Montmarte. Friday was a very nice experience. Our friends joined us and all four of us commented about how good our dinner was -- and the service was well beyond excellent (as always at Montmarte). My wife commented yesterday how much we wants to come back before we leave for Maine at the end of the month.
The food is so well prepared and presentation is beautiful. I love the tight menu with all dishes tasting great. It’s always our first choice when we are on the Hill.

Well MontMarte is an established fine dining place on Capitol Hill and a good place within walking distance. The food was tasty mostly, but I thought the gazpacho was bland. The calf’s liver, crab risotto and scallops entrees were good
Tuesday and Sunday nights are 1/2 bottles of wine which is an excellent deal
I’ll go back!
This was a perfect date night. Delicious cocktails, good food, decent wine recommendation, and excellent service. We will definitely be back.
The food was very good. I think the wait staff was on point every step of the way. They came around to make sure everything was fine, but not in a way that was disruptive. We had a very nice meal and at our own pace.
Wonderful as always
Food was outstanding. The noise level made it difficult to have a quiet conversation.
