It resembles old Roman “Fraschette” offering a wide selection of artisanal cheeses and cured meats, cold dishes from Roman tradition and a modern take on Pinsa, a low fat, low calorie and easy to digest flat bread made with a blend of rice, soy and wheat flour imported directly from Rome, all GMO free.
Our wine list represents mostly old world regions. We carry wines that are made from grape varietals native to their respective areas. We feature smaller producers of less known wines with a focus on organic, biodynamic and natural agriculture.

    We had a wonderful experience before going to a show at Golden Gate Theatre. War women with varying taste all enjoyed everything. We started with the delicious meatballs in a lovely sauce, used for dipping afterwards, enjoyed the cauliflower salad, which was our biggest surprise of the night, and finished our appetizers with the kale salad.  we then ordered two pizzas to share, and they were terrific. So many wonderful toppings. Everyone in our group said they would return to this cute little restaurant with so much character on a lovely light lined street. It is a hidden gem in San Francisco. They were absolutely amazing handling the theater crowd and getting everyone out the door on time.

    Flatbreads/pizzas were amazing. I had the tuna one before and remembered it as delicious adn second time around it certainly was! No disappointment. The celery root and carrot salad was just ok at first. It was much better after it had had time to sit and marinate a little. They should probably make it ahead of time so it has a chance to do so.

    Had a wonderful dinner before we went to Lion King. They are great with kids. Pizza is delicious. The staff is so warm and friendly. Always enjoy going there. We love leaving at night with the lanterns and lights up above the street.

    We introduced our young granddaughters to the pinsa, which they loved. Their favorite was the Casal Bertone with the chestnut honey. The gelato trio for dessert was the perfect ending to a delicious meal.

    The pinsa (Roman style pizza with a crust made from wheat, soy and rice flour) is delicious. The restaurant is family owned and the waitpersons are very friendly and helpful. Charming interior. The only drawback is the junkies on the street outside the restaurant. Mayor Breed, please do something!

    Perfect "Oasis" spot for dinner before a show. Tucked away in an alley, it was a busy beehive of happy diners. The waitstaff were very attentive and friendly. I love this place.

    Glad we made reservations as there was a line when we arrived. We were a little concerned about how dinner would go as they were quite busy- but the service and food were totally on point as usual. Delicious pinsas and salad, they made one error on a pinsa and gave it to us for free which was amazing. We return here anytime we are in the area.

    Our fourth time here. Service is friendly and efficient. ENJOYABLE is best way to describe our experience. Everything (meatballs, cauliflower salad, pinsa) is well made and tasty, but also very fun to eat. Came on a week night this time and really liked that it wasn’t as crowded or hectic as on a weekend.

    Everything was great, they accommodated our late arrival due to traffic (we called in advance to let them know) and the service was great and fast and we really enjoyed our food - definitely would go again.

    The restaurant accommodated a large party in their not large space and took care of us royally. The menu is limited to their specialty but there is something for everyone including vegetarians. Most important, the food was so delicious! We had among us almost everything on the menu and everyone was happy - meatball and roasted veg and octopus apps stood out as did the tuna pizza.

    We will all be back for sure! What a gem! We dined outside, which was SO CUTE on the little street with lanterns hanging above. We're so grateful they have outside tables! I love not having to worry much about Covid exposure. And it really was adorable. The street was a little smelly depending on the wind (the restaurant could do more to disinfect the sidewalk nearby, I worked at a similar location in Europe that had staff soap down the sidewalk every day successfully pretty fast with a bucket of hot water, a little lemon disinfectant, and a mop) but the smell wasn't that noticeable most of the time. The inside was adorable and lively if you have any concerns about that but I'll be back to eat outside. The staff was FANTASTIC. Responsive. Clearly love the food, the restaurant, the work. Somehow they were incredibly busy and also spent a lot of time recommending dishes, making our table more comfortable, and checking in on us. The food?!?!? THE FOOD!!!! Such a good range on the menu. Everything perfectly balanced & prepared. The cauliflower was a favorite. The kale salad stood out. We tried two different pizzas recommended by the staff & they were great. We wanted to eat it all. I'll definitely be back. Highly recommended.

    The food was outstanding. The space is comfortable and eclectic with just the right mix of old-school deli counter and your grandparent’s kitchen. Wine pours are bit on the light side and service was quick.

    This was our first time at Montesacro. We found it through the Orpheum website for dining before a show. It was an excellent choice. We had the special pizza (mozzarella, arugula, pancetta) and the carrot and apple salad. The salad was bland, not one we would get again. The pizza more than made up for the salad. For dessert we had the flourless chocolate cake, which was wonderful. The waiter was nice and personable but got a little busy towards the end. We will definitely eat here again.

    Had a 10-person reservation for a late lunch before a show we attended the Golden Gate Theater. Several of us had the lunch special which in included a delicious arugula salad, a Margherita pizza, and an expresso. They are basically sold as individual pizzas but definitely shareable. My pizza has a great crust and was yummy! Others ordered some of the speciality pizzas and they were quite happy. The toppings were quite generous. We had glasses of wine and some Italian sodas. We celebrated a birthday with a chocolate flourless cake and it was moist and delicious! The service was excellent! Fun and interesting restaurant decor. We all agreed we would come back for another meal. Walking distance to the theatre and parking on Stevenson with Spothero.

    This place was recommended to us by a friend and it's a great find. Walking in the aroma took me back to places we've visited in Italy and the authenticity seemed genuine. Service was pretty good until the end when we said we had a time restriction to get to the theatre and were suddenly ignored! Otherwise the food & wine were great, unusual and we'll be going back.

    Very cute restaurant to meet prior to a show at the Bill Graham, walking distance. Delightful server with great wine recommendations. Pinsas and salads were all delicious. I would return every night if I could

    I love coming here. The wait staff is excellent and well versed in wine. The menu has enough variety, but small enough to not feel overwhelming. The ambience inside is very romantic and intimate, perfect for a date night. My only criticism is I feel like their flatbreads could use more salt.

    Pinsas are yummy pizza-like dishes with a lighter crust. They were invented in the early 2000s. (I lived in Rome in 1970s, and there was no such food then). Food delicious, Italian staff, very convenient to Golden Gate Theater. Only wine, beer, and ciders- no hard liquor. Good service. Fun place! And happily they have another in Walnut Creek which is closer for me.
