Lovely little Italian gem
The food and the service were excellent. The menu is somewhat confusing but our server, Phoebe, was knowledgable and very helpful with the questions we had. There were six of us in our group and every one of us deemed the food and service to be excellent.
The pizza crust and the bread were perfect & so delicious! The server seemed inexperienced, but was polite. Although we hadn’t realized this is basically a nice “pizza” restaurant, and pizza s not one of our favorites, we enjoyed it.
This is my third trip to Montesacro. Excellent overall. The crust on the pinsa is a revelation. Would come back again!
This was very good all the way around. A bit pricey for what it is, especially wines by the glass. Pizza really just needs a basic red choice, carafe blend or Chianti. But crust, cheese & toppings were very tasty and good service
Delicious food. Great setbice
With so many great restaurant options in the Portland metro area, it's rare that my wife and I go to the same place twice in the same season, much less the same month. However, after our first visit to Montesacro two Sundays ago, we had such a tremendous meal and experience that we were back again just one week later. And the second time was as good as, if not even better than, the first.
Our server (Charlie) remembered us from the first visit and we quickly engaged in a conversation. We introduced our sons and their girlfriends and everyone settled in. We ordered cocktails and waded into the difficult task of figuring out which salads, meats/cheeses and pinsas we would order and share, with some great advice from Charlie.
As it had been on our first visit, the salads were fresh and flavorful, and the carpaccio was delicious (we split the three between the six of us, which was perfect). We ordered four pinsas with very different flavor profiles and all four were delicious...only a couple slices survived (and were quickly boxed up).
We highly recommend Montesacro and will definitely be back soon.
Dinner was delicious and the staff very attentive. We loved it here and will definitely come back!
Top notch Charlie was our server really enjoyed it… Way to make pizza special and I love it
I had high expectations based on their description as authentic Roman working class fare. I've been to Rome and was looking forward to the wonderful imaginative and vivid flavors that appear to only be possible in Italy.
Service was terrific, people are very nice, food was a bit too bland for me. Be bold, put it all out there
Best pizzeria Romana in PDX!
First time at this restaurant, I will be back and soon. Fabulous menu with many Italian style appetizers, a huge selection of cheese and charcuterie, bright salads with farm fresh ingredients and pizza with an extra ordinary choice of ingredients. Their signature pizza crust was light fluffy and a little charred which was truly outstanding. Great wine selection and a knowledgeable Italian server. I totally recommend this place.
Great addition to the PDX food scene!! Authentic Italian food with some unique flavors and dishes you won’t find anywhere else. Especially great if you like sharing small dishes. Authenticated by my significant other, who is from Rome. Buon appetito!
Charming restaurant, delicious food and ambiance - sitting in the at our outside table drinking aperol spritz and eatting pinsa - you can almost imagine you are spending the afternoon in Rome. Highly recommended
Had a salad and their version of pizza. Both were quite good. Pizza size is shareable
We had fantastic fresh salads and pinsa! Lovely outdoor seating and great service!
A lovely little restaurant in the Pearl and the food, once we got it, was solid. Server was just great, but the kitchen was slow as molasses. We arrived at 6:15 pm, did not order cocktails and left 2 hours later. OOPS! And our order was simple. Two pizzas, a shared salad and two sides of vegetables. Thank God we had good conversation.
Decent neopolitan pizza. I’ve had the real deal in Naples and their pizza was just ok in comparison.
The wine, food, and service were great. If you’re in the mood for Italian this place is perfect. 10/10 recommend!
Our best meal in Portland. And we are pizza snobs! A real highlight of the trip. Strongly recommend.
Wonderful dinner sitting outside. Warm, attentive staff. Delicious food!!
The pinsa is delicious—flavorful, hearty and creative. The other menu items were good, although portions were small and not outstanding when comparing to other local Italian restaurants with similar price point. Service was excellent and I like that they have happy hour. We’ll be back!
This is a very cute place with great ambiance. The meat and cheese board was outstanding, along with the Roman-style pizza. Everything tasted very fresh, and our server made sure we loved everything. I highly recommend this place for a date night. We have been recommending this to all of our friends and will be back soon!
We are frequent travelers to Italy, & had loved everything about our previous dining experiences at Montesacro. It had been just the two of us, after our first time, we pretty much knew what we wanted(the delicious burrata from the piatti freddi section of the menu, & the Casal Bertone & Trullo pinsas to share). We didn't pay much attention to the price of the items, & don't remember if they may have gone up since the last time we ate there. This time, we brought two other couples to introduce them to the wonders of pinsa. In addition to everyone wanting their own pinsa, after some consultation, we thought we wanted the Tagliere Misto for the table (3 choices each of cheese & meat at a special price), & chose them according to some of our dietary concerns. When we placed the order, we were told that the chef chooses the items, & we'd have to order what we wanted a la carte if we didn't want to take our chances. At $6 per, that meant it would be $36, rather than $26 for the chef's selection. We opted for 2 cheeses & 2 meats, plus the must-have burrata, & a salad, which we were going to order anyway. We were quite surprised at how small the cheese portions were, especially for $6 each, barely enough for all of us to have a tiny taste. The honey & fruit paste accompaniments were also very stingy, & hard to share. Fortunately, the meat portions were more generous, as we had expected. Everything was delicious, so no complaints about that, the burrata & salad portions were big enough to share. Everyone but one of our group(not a fan of the thicker dough edges, go figure) really liked the pinsas they ordered, would have no problem coming back again for more, just won't order cheese as a starter. The rustic, casual atmosphere was a hit, the service much appreciated.
We had been to this restaurant in San Francisco and were so excited to stumble upon the same restaurant in Portland. It was delicious and reasonably priced.
Absolutely fantastic pizza and phenomenal service by Charlie. Meat and cheeses, almonds, apricot, and fresh honey- excellent pairings. Pizza is not my go-to, but this was excellent with a perfect crust. Charlie was informative and pleasant to have as our server and host!
The food is fantastic! Love the space and the staff were lovely.
Probably one of the best food I ate in Portland in a very long time
We've been there twice with friends. It's been excellent both times with great food, service and ambiance. Highly recommend for a fun, enjoyable dining experience.
Excellent. Super good!
Very good food and drink here. We ordered a Negroni (not too bitter, just the way I like it!), a glass of dry rose, the cauliflower salad (plenty for two people), the Maranella pizza (white pizza with spicy sausage and broccoli I) and a margherita-type pizza with anchovies (I forget the name). Everything was delicious; the cauliflower salad was well seasoned (if a tiny bit salty between the olives and capers), the pinsas were light and airy and very crisp. In fact, I had to take home about half my pizza. Reheated the next day for lunch in a toaster oven, the pizza was just as good as the night before. Only suggestion I would make to the restaurant is to put some kind of sound baffle on the walls and/or ceiling — the place is very loud and there aren’t even that many tables. Not a place for a romantic dinner, but we will be back to try other menu items.
The Pinsas( pizzas) here are delicious. We came for HH and I was happy to see a negroni on the cocktail list. We sat outdoors, which was very pleasant. The chairs were slightly uncomfortable, but I forgot about once the drinks and pizzas arrived. My only complaint was the 15 dollar charge for a panzanella salad that was barely enough to share. I complained to the management and she reduced the bill . I felt that was a fair resolution. I will definitely return for excellent pizza, delicious drinks and outstanding service.
Wanted to like so bad. Serve nice but pressure use to order. Long hair in spicy oil. Ewwwww. Food not impressive compared to Pdx food.
Fairly authentic Roman food. Cool, mellow vibe. Good wine list and great service.
Never heard of a Pinsa until this visit, and now I love it and the size of one :-) Brilliant!
It was a dual anniversary dinner for my wife & I, and our friends the Millers.
Wines (we brought) - 2003 Aglianico and 2001 Luenzo (Tuscano Rosso)
Started w/ a great Negroni cocktail by Peter behind the bar. Great job and kick started the evening perfectly.
Appetizers - Tagliere Misto and Panzanella salad
Pinsas - Maranella and Quadrado - Both pinsas were exceptional. What blew us away was the fluffy crust. Must have been the Rice, Soy and Wheat flour. Perfect (extremely light) vessel for all the fresh ingredients. The girls seemed to love the Quadraro and guys the Maranella. Either way, there was plenty to go around for the four of us.
Desserts - Ordered 4 (and they sent us a 5th) - just to try them. Good, but I am not sure I would necessarily order them. Rather save the space for another pinsa ;-)
All in all - Great service, exceptionally friendly staff from the front desk to the bar. We will be back and back and back for sure!!
Love this place and the location. Good for a date night or a celebration.
Inside was lovely but we opted for outside due to the excellent weather and the noise level inside. Service was very friendly and knowledgeable. The food was absolutely delicious. Never had a pinsa before but we had one with creamy pecorino, bottarga and artichokes. So good.
Our waiter was lovely. The pinsa was expensive and just okay. The noise level was through the roof and made dining/conversing difficult.
Had dinner with my Italian husband and his longtime friend who lived in Italy for years and is fluent in Italian. Great compliment to say this was the BEST pizza [pinsa] either have had in the US!
Server could do a better job by asking questions first and not just assuming that his customers are unfamiliar with Italian food and wine. Big mistake. Also not being clear about our order and asking at the end if we had ordered more wine without telling him..huh?
Just me, but I find the decor of antiques depressing and dull and the place is quite loud because there is nothing to absorb the sound on walls or floor.
We'll be back because Italians love pizza! Hope the service can improved and maybe we'll sit outside.
We both thought the food was amazing! The crust was excellent.
