Montesacro's first location opens in San Francisco in 2015 as the first Pinseria in the US.
The pizza was excellent; the salad almost inedible and the dessert uninspired. Maybe this is because we came in Portland Dining Month and had a prix fixed menu? I never had a kale salad like that- tough raw kale with cheese slices and huge rock hard croutons. The space was loud and you are sitting right on top of your neighbors. Our server forgot about us. Had to ask for bread; then olive oil, then salt and pepper.
A first dining experience at Montesacro. Our group ordered some salads esp. the roasted cauliflower salad, which was delicious. The Pinsa with different toppings were a delightful treat. Crust was crisp and lighter than the usual pizza crust. A must to try again.
Traditional roman style cuisine, unlike any other offerings in PDX. Every dish was amazing, with gorgeous flavor profiles. One of the best meals I've had this year. Don't miss it!
Great food and service in a great setting.
This place is a hidden secret in the Pearl. Even through it was busy, it’s easy to miss. It’s defiantly worth checking out.
This is a great place. The pizza's are light and the salads are excellent. My only comment is that we were in the front round table and it gets cold when the door is open. Later in our meal a BIG group was waiting so it got so loud we could hardly hear each other. Next time we'll ask for a table in the back. We'll be back!
We came here for the Portland Monthly Dining special, we were not disappointed. We had been recently to the Amalfi Coast and Rome... this meal transported us back to our fond memoires of Italy. Delizioso, molto molto buono!
Great spot and worthy of return visits. Loved the pistacchio dessert!
EAT. HERE. NOW. What an amazing gem of a restaurant. The quality of the food is exceptional, the ambiance is extremely charming, and the service is impeccable. I love the limited menu as it gives you focus to their specialties, especially the pinsa. The charcuterie is refined and flavorful as well as their salads. Everything I have had there has been mouth-watering. The cherry torte brought me to tears. I cannot wait to go back.
Consistently good food and service. Love the Pinsa and the quarter turn cocktail!
Very charming spot for wonderful Italian food and good conversation. Nice wine list, interesting & wide selections on the menu.
The pinsas themselves were delicious. Really really great! Wasn’t sure the vegan option was going to be able to compete but it turned out to be my favorite. Only critique I have is that the salad portions were very small. We had to order a third for four people to make it work for sharing.
Our server was absolutely wonderful. Personality and attention = outstanding. It was a little bit difficult to get a refill of water or another glass of wine; other than that if you don’t mind flagging someone down the service is great and friendly.
Do yourself a favor and make a reservation for this restaurant..... and don't let anyone tell you this is just another pizza place - it's not....
Since this was our first visit, we didn't know exactly what to expect.... So we left the food choices up to our server :-) and we were NOT disappointed!!
Everything that showed up at our table was absolutely DELISH, and everyone was super helpful and friendly.
It is a small space, but very comfortable, lighting low - but not too low to read the menu, and they play a good mix of 1980's - 90's & 00's classic rock/pop that doesn't distract from the ambience.
We don't get a lot of time off to go out, but Montesacro has definitely earned it's place on our short-list of places to go.
Terrific Roman style Pinsa and starters. Highly recommend.
We celebrated a friends birthday here last Saturday night. I’m a huge fan of the owner of this place. I use to frequent his restaurants in Manhattan, Brooklyn and San Francisco. He’s a genius and he empowers his staff to work together to create a truly beautiful experience. You won’t find a more authentic Roman neighborhood experience than this. Delicious!
It’s a very quaint restaurant a lot of meat and cheese. Good tasting food different from what I knew from traveling Italy. The prices are a bit higher to go more then twice a month but a nice place for a special occasion.
Salumi and cheese were great. Could be more generous. The pinsa we had (sausage) was terrific and not the usual.
Such a great experience. Menu is small, but high quality. Wine list prices are reasonable and well suited to the menu. We'll be going back!
Delicious Roman style pizzas, salads, cheese and meats. I felt like I was back in Italy. I highly recommend it!
Amazing food! Very special spot in Portland. Will be back soon.
First time visit, celebrating Valentines Day, and was very pleased with our whole experience.
We took a break from my normal hunt for beefsteak and ventured to a lovely small wares style. Every item was carefully prepped and delicious. The owner greeted us by name as we arrived (courtesy open table I would surmize as this was our first visit) Tho we dine late, the staff was very friendly and we had a very nice leisurely meal at our pace. They took great pains to deal with our gluten sensitive issues and that is really appreciated. A new gem on the PDX scene.
Best pizza I have ever had. Friendly service and great menu options!
Wonderful place. Helpful staff. Just a great experience
Great atmosphere, wonderful
I know a lot about Italian food but had never heard of pinsa. What a delightful find! The dough is light and hits a perfect balance between chewy in the center of the thicker parts and crackling crisp on the outside. The toppings are well-conceived, carefully sourced, and delicious. I've been twice and enjoyed the pinsa with tuna and the one with broccolini and sausage. The ambience is charming and very like a small trattoria in Italy, and the service both times I went was perfect - attentive without being pushy. Finally, don't miss the dessert pinsa!! It's split and filled with a heavenly pistachio cream imported from Sicily, where the world's most delicious pistachios are grown. (The owner told us that he has this "crema di pistacchio" made to order for him.) Montesacro Pinseria is a great addition to Portland's restaurant scene, and I look forward to returning again and again - and introducing it to friends.
I love checking out new places with friends! This new restaurant is now one of my best choices. Warm greetings from the hostess, Peter our waiter, gave great recommendations on everything on the menu. We had a friend who had special requests on the menu and he was very accommodating. He also mentioned he is certified in gluten free. They are known for their "Pinsa". It is A-mazing. I prefer these over regular pizza for sure now. From the Cocktails, Insalate e piatti freddi, Sott'oli, Tagliere misto, Pinsa and Dolci. Everything was delicious! The manager and chef Luca also came to our table to make sure everything was 👌. HIGHLY RECOMMEND, make reservations and bring your friends!
My ONLY complaint from the whole dining experience was the restaurant didn't have any grapefruit juice for my drink of choice. In the end, EVERYTHING ELSE made up for it. Will definitely be back!!!!
Wonderful and unique. For the pizza lover this is a must try. It’s like pizza, but then not. Pinsa is made differently. Must try it to see the deleicious difference.
Dough for pinsa was excellent! Cauliflower salad was tasty, too, along with the bread they brought to the table. A little olive oil would have been nice. We'll go back.
Consistently great food and service! Get the beet, blood orange salad with goat cheese! Tried some salumi and cheese with honey, yummy!
I have the luxury of eating that many fine restaurants, both high and low end, across the country. I am rarely wowed By new restaurants let alone a restaurant that is primarily focused on pinsa or flatbreads. I was wowed. This guy clearly knows how to turn really good dough and simple ingredients into something special. I almost hate to say this, because I probably won’t be able to get a table soon. The rest of the menu was also great, the service was great and it’s a nice location.
Make a reservation...this is a new neighborhood gem-in-the-making destined to succeed. The restaurant has a very nice ambiance and the staff is pleasant, energetic and very likable even at the height of a rush. On our last visit they were so busy that they called us to ask if we could come 15 minutes later than our reservation so we wouldn't have to wait standing at the restaurant...a very nice personal courtesy. The bar is small, but the bartenders are creative and accommodating if you don't see something you like. The drinks are both tasty and strong. The cocktail, wine and beer menu are limited but more than adequate. There is a very good selection of salads and starters including many wonderful shaved meats (try the porchetta!), and our plate of meats and cheeses selected by the chef was excellent. The menu star is the pinsa...with a beautiful, light, crisp thin crust topped creatively with excellent mixes of vegetables, cheeses, eggs, meats, etc.--there are plenty of choices...I've tasted three of them and all were superb. There are a number of good dessert choices, but my favorite is the pinsa crust encasing an amazing pistachio butter...if you order it once you may never try anything else on the dessert menu! Fair warning...the seating can be a bit uncomfortable...and at the height of evening service it can be a bit noisy...but all that melts into your subconscious when you taste the food. Even though this restaurant has not been open long they have a great staff and wonderful fare...personally, I'm wishing them every success!
About as close to Italy as you can get. Great food!
Wonderful heavenly food and great attentive service! I am Italian, moved to the US when I was 25 year old, so I am super picky about Italian food here, well... I can say that finally Portland has an authentic (and delicious) Italian restaurant. It is a must to go! Thank you Montesacro! Grazie.
Really pleasant dining experience with menu that offers nice flexibility depending on appetite and mood. The pinsa is fantastic. Glad Montesacra is introducing to Portland. Wishing them great success and support from the hood
Excellent food and service! We had a party of 7 and everyone loved the food! Highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who wants a great meal, with great service at a great price!
Nice to have a family run restaurant that focuses on authentic Roman cuisine without trying to pay homage to Northwest influences. They nicely incorporate local ingredients but stay true to their heritage, how refreshing! Great salads, marinated veggies, and flat bread pinsas using unusual, but very Roman toppings; if you have been to Rome, you will know what I mean. Nice cocktails, wines and after dinner liquors. For dessert Try the panna cotta made with fennel and vanilla topped with olive oil!
We went for lunch the first day they were open for lunch and it was terrific. We highly recommend it.
Really wanted to love this place but unfortunately it missed the mark. 2 of 3 dishes were very bland. Table by the door is really poorly planned for winter weather. Server seemed like he’d much rather be somewhere else.
The pinsas are nothing but flat breads with a lot of dough. There is not much on the menu that is not either an appetizer or salad that does not have dough. And for that, the price is to much.
The food was excellent, but they are still ironing out some kinks with the service I think. Overall it was very good
