Montebello Ristorante Italiano Ratings and Reviews
We were having a very nice evening and remarked to one another how the ambiance was so nice. Unfortunately, shortly there after, there was a drunken couple near us who were arguing loudly and profanely. So sad.
They ruined the otherwise quit and romantic room.
I do wish the restaurant had asked them to leave. But understand this may have made matters worse.
This is a consistently great dining experience. Such a rare find in NYC - delicious food in a space where you can actually converse without having to raise your voice. The wait staff are professionals - not temporary help on the way to something else. A classic and classy place to have a good meal and enjoy the company of those at your table. What more could you hope for?
I have given this restaurant a low rating because I ordered an appetizer and an entree not on the menu that was one of the "Specials" the waiter told us about without telling us prices, and it turned out that both dishes were more expensive than other comparable dishes that were on the menu. Similarly, at the end of the meal they brought over a desert card for us to select desert items with no idea of their cost. I would not go back to a restaurant with those trade practices. We thought the total check was excessive for the value of the meal.
We enjoyed our evening and the food was good, but the price was high relative to the quality particularly in comparison to many other UES Italian restaurants. We had a server switch about half-way through with no announcement, which is a pet peeve of mine having worked and eaten in restaurants for years. The first server rushed us, obviously because he was wanting leave -- the second server was much better -- more relaxed and yet attentive. Again, the food was good, just not great enough to return to with all of the other places I want to eat at in Manhattan.
One of my neighborhood favorites. Consistently good food and good service with a reasonably quiet ambience so that you can have a pleasant conversation over dinner. I like it a lot. And there is a private room that can hold 25 to 35 people easily. I heartily recommend it.
We live in Pennsylvania and go on the same yearly trip. This is always our go to for Friday night. We have been here for many years and have never had a bad meal. The food is amazing, staff is great We look forward to this every year. A little pricey but when the food is amazing, sometimes you don't mind paying a little more.
