Outstanding Italian Restaurant in Mid Town New York. We dined there typically once a month for the past 30 years and have never had a meal which was not to our satisfaction.
This is really a very ordinary restaurant - very bad ambiance - may be ok for quick pick up for lunch - definitely not sitting down formal dinner!!!
Very good food and prompt, friendly and efficient service.
Had lunch here during Restaurant Week. Certainly worth the price. Service was lovely and ambience allowed for conversation. I would definitely return!
Great service and food. One the best restaurants in NYC.
A great place to have lunch on a hot summer day in a chilled out lovely environment. And the food was delicious. And easy environment to have a good conversations in.
Eggplant appetizer was good. Chicken breast was tough, vegetables sparse. Cheese cake was sliver-thin and a bit dry. Restaurant was crowded to my surprise.
Absolutely loved this place
We ordered the Restaurant Week lunch menu and it was quite good.
Good service but meal was standard
Two visits in last two weeks - both excellent - food and service
$39 prix fixe menu is GREAT!!
For business lunch, this place had a nice ambience. But the food left lot to be desired. We went there based on reviews, however both the appetizers and main course simply were not good, as an Italian restaurant should be.
It was a good neighborhood restaurant but nothing is remarkable.
Unfair practices.average overpriced food.. never going back
I wrote a long detailed review to the restaurant as a private note. but it was too long to publish. if you care I will email it to you. but you will never see us again at this restaurant no matter what.
Good food and extra friendly service.
Outstanding food and service. Don’t miss the Eggplant parmigiana - outstanding!
Food was delicious with very personable and attentive wait staff. Lentil soup, lobster ravioli and tiramisu got rave reviews at our table!
Service is great. Good is just okay. Tired interior.
Enjoyed another great meal. Service and food quality are both 1st class. Highly recommended. Enjoy.
Great food & service. House made grappa was the best I’ve ever had. Will definitely return.
Outstanding food and service.
Delicious - - -= everything we ate. Good wine list also. We would definitely return here again the next time we are in NY. The grilled veal chop was fantastic & the pasta dishes were cooked to perfection, al dente as was the bronzino.
What a gem! I can't believe I never walked in after passing by so many times. We chose scallop to start - they are plump, fresh and perfectly sauteed! We have pici and squid ink pasta. Both are not what you can find everyday and done very nicely. The glass of Rioja is lovely; beer is fresh and chilly. We enjoy every part of our meal.
Always an excellent dining experience. Can one say that for a restaurant that one has at for almost 20 years.
Very good evening. Always a pleasure
Always a great dinner.
The staff makes you feel so welcome, as though you are family, while they adhere to the health protocols—very comfortable & happy to be able to dine in this gem of a restaurant. The food, of which there is a large variety & several specials, is delicious: the (special) split pea soup was flavorful & wonderful, the salads were delicious, the entrees were plentiful & fantastic. And the wine selections were extensive, with ours (Montepulciano D’Abruzzo) delightful. A truly great dining experience!
The menu is filled with many delicious items & the food is wonderful (as usual). The special soup (a non-dairy chickpea soup) was delicious, as was the tricolore salad (very fresh & flavorable). The lamb & pork loin were both wonderful, with excellent side vegetables. And the desserts...yum! Love the chocolate mousse cake! The wine selections are vast, a great accompaniment to a fabulous meal, & a delightful dining experience. And the staff: attentive & inviting, making you feel welcome, like one of the family!
Next time I will be more careful to ask the price when I order a soup special of the day offered by the waiter, not the menu. To my surprise, the check showed that it was $18.95 for the pasta with beans soup, which I felt had little flavor to it.
Discovered venue during last Restaurant Week and returned about a month later with friends. Although still very good, and for now would still recommend, we were a bit disappointed because at least two of our main dishes were not as hot as they should have been - some potatoes on one were cold and the veal special was barely warm. Restaurant was not busy so it should not have been sitting long after cooking. The tiramisu and the ricotta cheesecake desserts were mediocre (rather dry) although the flan on the previous visit was excellent. In addition. the bartender did not know how to make a Black Russian - he added cream (or milk). We'll give it another shot before we downrate it. Service was excellent and friendly. I rate value as fair to good because prices are rather high especially on the appetizers.
Went to Montebello for Restaurant Week dinner. What a find! Everything about the restaurant was perfect, from being greeted when we came in, to service, to drinks and, of course, to dinner. The decor is lovely. A friend came in from upstate the following week and I went back. I would definitely recommend Montebello for anyone looking for a wonderful dining experience.
Wonderful food, lovely atmosphere, quiet even though tables full nearby and group in nearby room. Love it!
Very old school setting, as if it hasn't been redecorated since the late 80s. Still the service was outstanding and swift, without feeling rushed. I'll definitely return with a larger group in the near future.
As always, wonderful! My favorite restaurant in New York City. Joe and his staff so warm and welcoming. And the chef is so talented! Thanks Guys!
Service was excellent/friendly.
Food was good.
NYC Restaurant Week lunch, very good, not great.
I had a wonderful time, the food was great and the service was outstanding. The night began quite but as it filled the noise got a little load but nothing to bad.
Gave us a small corner table near the front which was conducive to an intimate business conversation with the liability of others listening in.
Food excellent, service very good, prices seem right only for people on expense account which is duly Noted.
First visit for pre-theater meal on restaurant week menu. Thoroughly enjoyed each course. Staff was very friendly, polite and attentive. We were earlier than anticipated (due to less transportation delay) and wanted to "kill time". We were not rushed during the meal and, given that there were still a good number of empty tables as we finished (about 7 PM), we lingered considerably over our coffee and dessert. We were never rushed and we got our bill only after I requested it. Although it was only our first visit - at an early hour - the set up appears to allow for not too much noise during dinner, something we greatly appreciated. There was a table if five seated across the 'walkway" from our somewhat shelter banquet seating and we could hear them speak at times, there was a mercifully pleasant absence of the loud din so common in today's restaurants and my party could still easily speak without shouting and with no difficulty in hearing one another.
