Service and food never a disappointment!! Always outstanding!
Overall, a good experience. Food was tasty - I had the grouper special and my husband had the pork chops. He felt the pork chop could have been seasoned a bit more and he wasn't a huge fan of the side that came with the pork chops. It was a very fall medley of cranberries, sweet potatoes, and brussel sprouts. There was also some sort of cream that tasted a little funky. My grouper was delicious and the side that came with it was yummy, too. We also got the pork carnitas tacos for an appetizer. The tacos are huge (you get 2) and although the pork was very flavorful by itself, the flavor was hidden by everything else that it was topped with. The pork should have been the star - but I think it was some sort of a slaw on top that over powered the pork because there was just soooo much of it. Our waitress was very friendly. The food did take exceptionally long to come out - she came by quite a few times to tell us it was almost done - and she apologized. We were celebrating my husband's birthday so we weren't in a rush. But we did both mention to each other how long we sat there waiting for the main entree. Overall, a good experience. A tad pricey but we would definitely try it again.
Service is impeccable and so is the food. You cannot go wrong going to Montara.
Everything we ordered was great. Sea bass special, Amish chicken with risotto, Caesar salad with shrimp and 3 tapas - stuffed dates, thai shrimp w/black rice, dry rubbed grouper tostadas all great.
The thai shrimp or grouper tostadas could easily be a light dinner. For dessert the sticky toffee pudding, flourless chocolate cake(my fav) and the sorbets were all delicious.
Our server Jen was friendly, attentive and new what she was doing.
Excellent evening for our first time at Montarra, cocktails, wine, grouper tostada, tuna tartar, skirt steak, prime rib eye and English toffee pudding. I have worked over 30 years in all types of food service and everything was spot on, we even bought the kitchen a round of beers because they deserve to recognized too. Thank you to all the staff.
We always enjoy the outstanding service from everyone here! The food is amazing!
Food was fairly good but very small portions. One chicken breast and small amount pilaf for $26. Not a good value at all. Crusty bread would have been appreciated more than the thin crackers (with nothing to put on them). Very nice waitress.
We love this place!!! The food is always superb and the ambiance is very romantic!
Ambience is relaxing and hug style. The staff was excellent, which always helps lend to an overall great experience
After watching episode of Check Please decided to make the 75 min drive to Algonquin. April 27th @6:30pm reservation, seated immediately. Located in a Strip center off Randall road, plenty of parking. Deceiving from the outside. Nicely decorated, relaxing atmosphere. Service was good, 2 hour meal but the food not so much. Goat cheese croquettes were ok. Onion soup was Cold which was sent back. Red & yellow roasted Beet salad was just that. Chilean Sea Bass small portion was Expensive, Brussel sprouts were terrible. Disappointing experience.
Great service and great food. Wasn’t rushed and had time to talk
Everything was fabulous. The food, atmosphere, and service were all amazing!
Our twenty fifth anniversary and Montarra went out of their way to make it special.
Consistently excellent. Used to live a mile away but We now drive from st Charles to dine here. Worth the trip.
Food is fantastic!! Always happy with our experience there.
we've been here several times now and we absolutely love coming here the food is always excellent the atmosphere is beautiful and the service is always good.
It's never been disappointing.
Consistently great food and service, always a special dining experience
This normally a 5 star experience for us, last night the food lived up to expectations, but service was woefully lacking.
A one hour dining experience turned into a painful two hours of poor service. We were never given updates as to why our order was taking so long. She never came by to refill our wine glasses or to just check on us in general.
If Montarra wants to continue to be the "hidden gem"in the suburbs, they should hire and train their servers to fulfill that mission.
They made a special birthday that much more special by adding a note to the menu and ensuring we had a special treat at the end to commemorate the night. Food and drinks were fantastic and will be back for sure!
So good! Food was delicious!
Food was very good per usual, but service wasn’t the best. It took awhile for the server to take our food order, and then she entered it incorrectly into the system which resulted in a longer wait time for my entree. This also resulted in my husband’s steak being over cooked - not prepared as he requested (med rare). Luckily, it still tasted good. I did appreciate the nice touch added for a special occasion (dessert however, it would’ve been nice to have something compensated considering the server error.
First time here for a birthday celebration. Love the decor and ambiance. Great service and terrific food. Highly recommend checking it out.
One of our favorites.... great for date nite or sharing small plates with friends & family!
It is a nice restaurant but what you get for your money is not worth it. I had the shrimp & scallops. I got 2 shrimp and 2 scallops on some mashed potatoes and spinach.the shrimp and scallops were only about 1 inch in diameter for $28.00. I have gotten this at other places and at least had huge shrimp and scallops. They really skimp on the food.
Always great food and service. Perfect place for a special dinner
First time visit and will be back! Service was good, food a well and our server knew the wine list well and recommended a good bottle.
We took friends here for the first time , one friend is vegetarian, and we were disappointed to not see menu items aside from salad that were vegetarian. Our server did ask the chef, and he ended up with 2-3 options, but this did make me realize I should double check the menu before going with our friends again.
I was cautious initially because it's in a strip mall. But it upon getting our appetizers and dinner I was very pleased. The food was excellent. We chose to be seated in the bar area, which may have been a mistake because it was loud and conversation slightly hard. Can't compare to the dining area because I didnt chose that. However, two issues did detract from the experience, because it's not a cheap restaurant: my guest asked for a brand scotch, to find out they'd run out. And then he was informed they had run out of his second. He was comp'd a free drink on his third choice. Secondly, we were not really offered wine. There was an extensive wine list, but it would have been professional for our waitress to talk about the wine selection. It worked out, but they lost some sales, and we missed the compliment of wine.
Love this place! We always sit at the bar - even when we are getting dinner. Ben the bartender is awesome, and always takes SUCH great care of us! Highly recommend!!
Birthday dinner for my wife. Excellent as usual.
Very interesting menu choices. Delicious food. Excellent service. Beautiful place.
The food was outstanding with a nice presentation. Cocktails well prepared with a strong variety wine list. Ambiance was comfortable and welcoming. Service was a major disappointment - a wait to be greeted by server, took long to get cocktails, dinner specials were presented long after menu was reviewed and dinner decisions made, finished wine half way theough dinner server never checked to see if I would like more wine, server was in a hurry to take dessert order. We noticed that other tables were getting better attentive serve than what we were receiving. Reviews on Check Please! indicated that service was one of the strong points of this resteraunt but that was not our dinner experience. With the wonderful ambiance and outstanding food, we struggle to ever return due to poor service.
The food was fantastic! We had a selection of "small plates" which were hot, substantial and absolutely delicious! The wine list was very nice but a bit pricey for the single pours - after all, this isn't a downtown Chicago location. The dining area was not overly crowded but the service was very slow. We waited almost a half an hour after we said "no" to dessert and still had to ask for our check. Good thing I was with friends but if you're in a hurry or on an awkward first date, it's nice to get the check on your table quickly but be allowed to pay at your leisure. Overall, this is a great place and we will be back!
The sea bass had great flavor and texture. My son ordered the ribeye and it had too much fat in it for him. Other than that he liked the flavor of the steak.
Excellent food, drinks and service. The filet is amazing and cooked perfectly! Every aspect of this dining experience is perfect !
We decided to try based on the reviews on Check Please. We had a party of 6 and had to wait for a table even though we made reservations. We all enjoyed the food, wine and cocktails. Our waitress was not very attentive. One of us was missing a fork and we asked 2 times for another one. We finally went to another table to get one. Our wine glasses were empty and the waitress never asked if we needed more wine. We only received more wine when we asked. The place was very loud and had a hard time hearing any conversations. We may try again sometime to sit in a different area because we all enjoyed the food.
Monica was great server food was awesome
Cocktails were great
The filet mignon is to die for, melts in your mouth. So delicious!
a place for a really nice dinner. very interesting and creative menu. not your usual upscale suburban restaurant
