The food was unremarkable- not poor, not good. The server was not up to the job; she greeted us and then disappeared for a long while before taking our order. She then did not reappear until long after we finished our meal and after we asked another server to locate her for us. The place is unattractive and loud. There are many better restaurants in Frederick. We will not return to Monocacy Crossing.
Wonderful meal. I had the Berkshire pork cheeks. They we're so tender and flavorful. My husband had the beef medallions cook perfectly. The grilled romaine salad is the best anywhere, I highly recommend it. If you can save room for dessert you will not be disappointed. Reasonably priced and unique offering to keep us coming back.
It has been at least a year since my husband and I have been to this restaurant. We live quite a
ways away, but we knew we would be in the area so we made a reservation to eat here. Our request to have a table by the window was met and we were seated upon arriving. All in all the evening was enjoyable and the service was good. My husband's dinner of beef wrapped in bacon, ordered medium, came out totally rare. It had to be sent back. It came back the second
time still pretty rare but he ate it and did not want to send it back again. We eat out a lot and I cannot ever recall him having to send his dinner back because of being undercooked. The waitress apologized and poured my husband some more wine. We know these things happen but it is frustrating at a restaurant such as this. It would have been nice if the manager on duty had come my our table to offer his apologies, but that did not happen. We will give this restaurant one more chance and, hopefully, with no more problems.
Absolutely love this place! The food is just to die for. Everything is fabulous. We always do the whisky duck nacho appetizer and the warm coconut pound cake for dessert. We have been on multiple occasions and every entrée has been so delicious you can't wait to go back and try the next thing on the menu... Although when the lamb shank is on the menu I do have a hard time resisting. Highly recommend it!
We've been hearing about how awesome this restaurant is for many years, and finally booked a reservation to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary. Although the food and service were good, we were not "wow'd" the way we thought we'd be. I will say that the soup of the day was their cream of mushroom, which definitely had the wow factor - in fact, it's the best we've had in many years. Unfortunately, we can't just show up there any time we want and order that soup, because (sadly) it's not a regular menu item. Hubby and I both ordered the '3 for' special, which included a soup or salad, any entree from the menu, and any dessert, for $35.00 (which is a good deal if you order one of their more expensive entrees). We both ordered the NY Strip steak, which came with an order of fries and broccoli. The steaks (both of them) had so much gristle, neither of us finished it - not what you would expect for a $30 steak. The fries and the broccoli were unimpressive, but fine. Hubby ordered the chocolate mousse and I ordered the creme brulee - both were tasty, but completely the wrong texture. Mousse is known for its light and airy texture - but theirs was more like pudding; and the creme brulee which should have been a soft "creamy" custard, was thick and not at all the consistency it should have been. The other entree I was considering was the lamb shank, and about half way through our meal, another table's orders were walked past us, and the lamb shank looked amazing - in hind sight, I really wish I'd ordered that - and I might have had a much happier experience. We sat out on the patio and the ambiance was great; I love how they offer blankets to keep patrons warm on a chilly evening, that's a nice touch. Overall experience- ok, but not as impressive as I thought it would be for all the hype I've heard about this place, and for the cost of dining there.
This was our second time dining at Monocacy Crossing, and unfortunately, this time we left disappointed. When we arrived we could not find parking. Can’t really blame the restaurant for this. If they are busy they are busy, but did add a little stress right from the beginning.
We had a reservation, and we were sat right away. Service however was an issue from the beginning. Our server came to us and said she was teaming up with someone else, but we didn’t see that other person at all. Overall our server seemed overwhelmed, but not really sure why because all of the tables were not full. We felt as though everyone around us was getting great service except for us.
•We had to ask for bread (tables that came in after us was given some, but our server just forgot about us)
•We would have liked to have ordered a second drink, but our server never came by to ask us.
•We would have liked to have a refill on water, but our server never gave us an option. Actually she came when we were ready for the check to refill our waters but that was pointless. So went the whole meal with just the first drinks that were brought to us.
•My husband asked the server who brought us our meal for a spoon.. it was never brought to him.
We are not sure why our service lacked compared to other tables around us. We chose Monocacy because we wanted something intimate, but for the price we paid, we definitely expected service to be better. Hopefully it was just an off night.
My companion and I were shown to outdoor tables at first and served beverages as the restaurant didn't open until 12:00PM and we were a little early which I thought was very accommodating. We ultimately decided to go inside. We were seated next to a patio door and it was obvious that at one time this was someone's house. My companion didn't say anything but I thought that it smelled musty where we were.
I ordereed the sausage gravy and biscuit dish with a side of bacon and topped with poached eggs. My friend ordered the pit turkey sandwich which came with fries which I must say looked delicious and they concurred it tasted so as well. They were very high on the place feeling like we had found a gem.
I not so much. I'm not sure what it was about the sausage gravy biscuit dish but something was off. The biscuits tasted like they were under done and tasted off in flavor. The poached eggs on the other hand were cooked to perfection runny yet firm and the bacon perfectly crisp.
A free dessert they provided was tasty putting together a puff pastry filled with ice cream and topped with chocolate sauce and whipped cream.
I use a walker to get around and noted a few others there who were using canes. There are only 2 handicap spaces and the lot is fairly uneven, strewn with stones and not paved fully. This makes it a little tougher to get around outside. Once inside getting around to tables and such was workable and a ramp provided to get to the dining room. The bathrooms are another story. They are not wheelchair accessible and barely walker accessible. I'm not sure if they have a wheelchair accessible bathroom, you'd need to call if that's important.
Anyway I would give it about a 3.5 star rating while my surefooted friend would give 4.5 stars.
Cheryl our waitress was very attentive, accommodating and personable.
Nestled along the roadside, this charming old restaurant can serve up a variety of delicious items. This time we were wowed by their hush puppies and salads. The Burgers were cooked perfectly as ordered and you get ample amount of calamari. The service was friendly and appropriately attentive, much thanks to Amy.
I was not impressed. There was a crowd of young females that were drunk, loud and very obnoxious and the staff did NOTHING to subdue the scene. The food was not very good. I had the calamari and beef medallions wrapped in bacon. This was the worst calamari I have ever had. it was chewy and the breading was inedible. My wife had the sangria which tasted like a cross between a sea breeze and a cosmopolitan. It was a Saturday night and I am certain they had their best chef which is even more disappointing. The only part of the evening that was nice, was her lentil cakes which she had for dinner as well as the beet carpaccio she had as an appetizer. We were pleasantly surprised at the good vegetarian options that they had.
We would not recommend this place.
Very good meal and experience! A definite "must dine", especially if near Frederick. The Pork Taco appetizer is wonderful and spicy. The Coconut- glazed Poundcake is simply devine and alone is worth the trip. We enjoyed our visit, look forward to returning, and recommend!
