Food was very good and we thought a real value for the money.
Our server rarely came to the table and talked too low to be heard when he was there. Took two tries to get another drink which by the time it got there our meal was over.
Deserts were nothing spectacular.
Be warned the restaurant is very dark and very loud with house music playing loudly in the background. Tough to have a conversation.
At first it took over 15 mins for our waiter to come to us. The hostesss sat us down no water came out nor did someone take our drink order. After stopping two other wait staff and finally going back to the hostess our waiter came to us apologize and gave us drinks on the house. After that the waiter was attentive and one of the most professional waiters I have ever had. We have recently moved down from NYC and this restaurant is the first we come across that reminds of us NYC type restaurants from the food to the service to the ambiance. We were tempted to walk out before our waiter came by and im glad we stayed
I made reservations for Monkitail for my girlfriend and I’s Valentine’s Day dinner. We waited a little over our reservation time, but that’s ok because the food was Delicious! I can honestly say their sea bass and duck scrapple was the best thing I’ve ever eaten in my life. The food runners are very quick and continued to bring us our ordered meals. Our waiter only came to the table about twice. Our glasses were empty for about 10 minutes but that’s ok. That gave us time to talk and relax and chill in a beautiful environment. The music is very loud and hard to converse at first, but then you start to get used to it and eventually don’t even realize it’s there. Overall this restaurant is 4 Stars.

Next time I would order a la carte as it was a bit too much food and now that I know what I like I could order easier.
For a first time though, the tasting menu gave us a good idea of what is available. Service was prompt, polite and efficient. Well done!
Unfortunately, we started off with good service, and complimentary champagne, but as the evening progressed, service became terrible. It took half an hour to get one skewer, and the server stopped coming by our table. I ended up ordering the check before dessert arrived, just so we could be ready to go once we were done. This was our five year anniversary dinner, and the place had potential, but the bad service overshadowed the rest of the experience. It's a shame because I had heard great things about this restaurant.
We love it! My wife and I have been going there since it opened, probably a total of 5x. What we love about it is the drinks, food and decor. The staff is amazing! Carlos our waiter was on point!! His recommendations and overall attitude were a perfect fit for a great evening.
My wife, our daughter, and I had the tasting menu. It wasn't clear if the whole table had to have the tasting menu or if just those who wanted it, but only one set of selections for the table, or Chef's Choice. We chose: 1) Spicy tuna, avocado, rice pearl - A+ memorable, 2) Duck Scrapple Bao Bun - A+, 3)Salmon Avocado Roll - standard good - A, 4) Yellowtail sashimi - top quality - small piece A-, 5) tempura Shrimp Taco - A+ memorable, 6) Sapporo Chicken generous portion, melt in mouth dark and white meat on the bone - A, 7) Broiled Sea Bass - perfectly cooked - small piece to share (but my wife ceded part of hers!) - A, 8) Crispy Brussel Sprouts - super tasty generous portion - A, 9) Miso Eggplant on skewers - so-so could have benefited from more of a burn - B-, 10) rib-eye with scallion on skewers, small portion - excellent - A, dessert was small ice cream cones Apple Jack and Peanut Butter ... chef sent a one more each. Timing and service were excellent - A-. $65 quite reasonable for the experience. Probably 4.5 stars overall, but relative to other local experiences ... excellent. Dramatic and attractive setting. We will be back.
Sashimi was excellent - beautiful presentation! All dishes were fresh and delicious.
Service is spotty.. I dined twice and dishes were forgotten both times. These were brought out a few minutes later after being reminded to the servers.
Decor is very fun although a bit dark.

Felt like the food was thrown at us. They dropped the food, four plates at a time, quick explanation that you could not understand, and away they went. There were two of us dining and we ordered the chef's mix. Waiter was not very attentive. Way overpriced for the service.
This place was outstanding. One of the best Asian rest. we've ever been to. We did the chef's tasting. Really inventive. We had the following: Pork belly/Tuna rice cracker/Scallop/Duck Scrapple Bao Bun/Sea bass/Short rib($20 upcharge)Tempura Shrimp tacos/Black cod fried rice/Tempura sushi roll/Unagi & Avocado roll/dessert. My god, everything was excellent! The portions are a bit more like Tapas sized except the short rib, which was huge! Price came out to close to $200. Pricey, but this quality doesn't come cheap!!
