Monkeypod Kitchen - Wailea Ratings and Reviews
Our favorite restaurant in Wailea! We come to Maui a few times a year and always end up here more than once when we come over. Love the menu- have sampled almost everything they have to offer and have never been disappointed! Pies are a must and this vodka girl has Mai Tais when at the Pod- they are addicting! Aloha!
Food was fine and generous in portions. The burger was great. Prices are on the fine dining side but with a family orientation (eg Coconuts, which is terrific). Restaurant has lots of kids and so lots of noise. Inside is exhausting as the noise is cacophonous and the tables are close. Deck is better though, again, they are making use of all the space with tables in every crevice. Wine prices are standard but individual glasses are higher than should be. Our whole experience was not too interesting really. Server was fine but always in a rush. Reviews are enthuisastic and that is what brought us.
Really fun joint. Unfortunately, we were expecting something a little quieter and/or relaxing - monkey pod would be comparable to an Earls, Joey's, or Cactus Club in Vancouver on an extremely busy night. The food was a little overpriced, a little lighter than your typical American servings, and there's no table bread or whatnot to make up for it - so if you're hungry, order an appetizer and budget accordingly. We asked to be within eyesight of the live music - we were, if we craned our necks and drowned out both the screaming kids and the large crowd standing directly behind us at the bar because they were waiting for tables. (Like standing-strangers-rubbing-against-your-head closeness!) On the positive side, the food was tasty - we had the gnocchi and the fish and chips - the servers were excellent, and the live music (what we could catch) was really cool.
Great Happy Hour and good food! Too loud to have a conversation inside. Outside seating is much better. We chose Monkeypod since they participated in the Dine our for Hospice. Unfortunately, our server was not informed about it and had to ask someone else. We wish Monkeypod would do more for Kamaaina diners.
They were out of garlic for the garlic truffle fries. Some pizzas were not cooked all the way crust in the middle was soggy. The waiter was awful, he was very awkward. This was our 2nd dinner there this week. The first time we went with a big group do we thought we would give it another try since we loved this restaurant the past years we ate at it. But it has def gone downhill.
Wonderful meal at Monkeypod! Went there with the whole family (8 people) and was able to get a table reservation the night before. Amazing food! We all loved the farm to table concept and the variety of the menu. Great portion sizes, we wish we had room for dessert!
Monkey pod is always a go to when we're in Maui. The MaiTai is one of the best on the island. This time I ordered the wood fired burger. I needed something to fill me up after a long day of paddle boarding. The burger did not disappoint. I could really taste the wood fired flavor and the fries were cooked to perfection. My husband ordered the Raw Bar Mixed Plate. He said that it was good. We had a 5:30 reservation and it was very busy. We also noticed that the noise level was very loud. I have sat outside on two previous occasions and this is the way to go if you want to converse with others in your party.
This place is way over-hyped and priced. When we arrived, we told the hostess our name because we had a reservation and we were seated immediately so we thought “off to a good start.” However, when we sat down we waited for over 15 minutes before a waiter even came over to us to give us water. We each ordered a drink: I ordered a mai tai with the lilikoi foam (decent), and my partner ordered a margarita (decent). We waited another 15 minutes before our drinks came (and it wasn’t even our waiter who delivered them). About 10 minutes later our waiter came back and finally took our order. We ordered the gnocchi with sausage, bulgogi tacos and an appetizer of the truffle fries. It took at least 20 minutes to get our fries (which tasted burnt). We waited at least 30 more minutes for our food, which tasted very plane. My partner ordered a beer, so the waiter said that he would offer us a tasting of four different beers which took 15 minutes, But then we were later told that the beer that we wanted was unable to be poured because something about the beer lines being frozen to the tap. We finally just asked for our bill, which really irritated me because they automatically assume that everyone is going to get an 18%, 20%, or 25% tip. They must be high. Worst place ever. This was the first place we ate when we landed and I was very upset. Don’t waste your time. If you’re going to spend money, go somewhere else.
Great food and friendly service. We enjoyed everything we ordered, especially the poke taco appetizers, the grilled fish sandwich, the garlic fries and the cucumber avocado salad. They are famous for their Mai Tais. Recommend patio seating near the “waterfall” in the back, otherwise the side patio is off the parking lot and entrance and inside very loud.
Great evening. Always our first stop when we are in Wailea. Great service! Our server went out and her way to help our friend who is a celiac navigate the menu. Very kind and knowledgeable. Inside is very buzzy but the outside is a lovely oasis. We will be back again before we leave Maui!
Our adult children discovered this place. It's not easy to get a table so make a reservation. Their Mai Thais are very good. We had a Ceasar salad that was terrific. The main course was basic mahi mahi, with a slightly creamy sauce. The chocolate cream pie was to die for. It was definitely worth it. Warning tho, the alcoholic drinks were very pricy. The music, which was live, was very loud. I've never been so happy to sit next to the kitchen.
