Monkeypod Kitchen - Wailea Ratings and Reviews
We had an excellent lunch here today. The best meal on Maui, all week. The Menu is genius. Fresh and delicious. The Ahi Tuna Melt was incredible. The Pork and Pineapple Pizza was so tasty... the Jalapeño peppers made it unique . Our server was Natalie. Let’s just say her ability to serve a table was spot on. Friendly, very knowledgeable and professional. Everything and everyone here is at the top of their game. Thank You, Monkeypod!
Our waiter was very helpful and accommodating. The pizza was good, but the cheese was too pungent for our taste. The noodle dish I got was delicious and I highly recommend. My husbands pasta with lobster and fish was ok. We were too full for dessert but have had the pie on a previous visit and it is tasty!
Not a good start when we had to wait nearly 40 minutes after a 5:45 reservation when told the wait might be 10 minutes.
Noise level very high inside but even difficult to have a reasonable conversation outside.
Our server was enthusiastic, if not over bearing.
We did not order the fanciest entrees. The pizza was very good although a bit too oily. The fish and chips were... fish and chips, but a more creative take would have been expected from a restaurant that has such a good reputation.
Great food at a great price. Cocktails were excellent. It was a bit loud. They need to turn down the live music and maybe think about some acoustic treatment to quiet things down. It was hard to have a conversation. Service was a little slow, but it was a holiday weekend. Will be back soon!
Fanatastic food locally sourced and great service. The mahi mahi tempura fish and chips were to die for. Topping the meal off was the strawberry and coconut pie which I have to honestly say were the best pies I’ve ever had in my life.
AMAZING - every morsel of food was absolutely delicious , and the famous Mai Thai is worth the hype ... we had the lobster deviled eggs and (baked?) chicken wings to start, I can’t say enough how delicious the eggs were ... I had the fish tacos as my meal, a little spicy (which I like personally) our server did ask if I wanted the jalapeño peppers that are served with them on top ... hubby had the fish and chips ... We are here for a week and definitely going to try and make it back once more .... honestly I could eat there daily and be happy .. haha
It's noisy, but worth it to experience a new Merriman's restaurant. Do your very best to make room in your calendar for Monkeypod Kitchen when you're on Maui next. It's fun and festive and everything we had - Sublime. Not to miss - Lobster deviled eggs, the Kauai Shrimp & Hamakua Mushroom Potstickers and Kiawe Grilled Ahi marinated in sesame Maui onion sauce. Unbelievable. The best grilled Ahi I think we've ever had. Enjoy!
We had a great meal. The inside of the restaurant was exceedingly noisy, but we were luckily seated outside. Beautiful weather and much quieter. A bit of an early glitch on service, as we waited for 10 minutes to put in a Sri k order even though we were greeted and asked if we were ready (waitress asked, we said yes and she must nitbhave heard us because she walked away) but spot on after that. Disappointed they were out of the special at only 8:00 at night but the food we got was spot on.
Disappointing given all the high reviews. Two things were very good two not so good. The mai tai’s and the pizza were great. Loved the signature foam on the mai tai. We had the Kailua Pork and Pineapple pizza. Ordered it with the plan of having one piece and taking it to go so as not to ruin our appetite for salad and entrees. The salad and entree’s were not very good. We had the arugula salad and the fish special. The salad sounded so good in the description but it was bland, the arugula was very tough, and it was missing the cilantro. Ate less then half of it. The fish was supposed to be light and mild. It was light but had a distinctly fishy taste. I can’t recall what it was served with it was so unmemorable. We finished the pizza.
This is a great place and fresh inventive food. The ahi sandwich and the fish tacos are great. They make their own pizza crust. Nice wine list and the outside patio is delightful, with an ocean view. Merriman's on any island is the place to go and this is a fun addition to the flock.
Monkeypod was a must-stop spot in Maui. I dreamed of eating those chicken wings again that are spiced perfectly with a mint cilantro dip. As this was our fifth time there, we knew the menu well, and were excited for superior food. The chicken wings were "overdone" and not as crispy as usual. The food was not as wonderful as we remembered, but nevertheless, they do a great job. I know they opened up another restaurant, so hopefully attention to quality is not decreasing because of their expansion. We will most likely go back, but may look for other new spots.
Have eaten at Monkeypod many times. Generally we have a decent experience but not at all this time. Server kept trying to up-sell food to us and acted irritated when we did not take her unsolicited suggestions. Food for each of the 4 of us was mediocre at best. In 37 years of coming to Maui this was one of our least pleasant restaurant experiences.
We arrived a few minutes before our reservation and waited about 10 minutes past our reservation but looking around, it was only because everyone that was seated was having such a great time so you can’t get upset with that. The Mai Tai was the best mai tai I’ve ever had. Even if you don’t like mai tais you’d be missing out if you didn’t try one of these. The service was impeccable, Natalie was very attentive and very sweet. We went with our 4 year old and had no problems. It was a good mix of fun and families. I had a salad and the hubby ordered the steak. Both were really great, nothing to complain about. Saving the best for last.... the strawberry pie. Just like the mai tais the pie is a must have. It really did live up to all the hype. Overall, I would go back just to have two Mai Tais and a piece of strawberry pie.
My husband and i thought this was a sushi restaurant. It was an attractive place and it was packed. When we were handed the menus, much to our dismay, we realized this was a hamburger/pizza place. The extensive wine list didn’t reflect a pizza joint. So we ordered the most expensive items on the menu, ahi tuna and rib eye. We wound up spending $150 in this hamburger/pizza place. My tuna was as dry as card board and my husband’s rib eye was almost in edible. It was the poorest cut of meat. It was obviously crowed because it was very cheap compared to other restaurants in the area.
