   Food was sub par. I had the steak and frites. The chimichurri was not very flavorful and the steak was chewy. The fries were great though. The food just wasn’t what you would expect at those prices. I’ve been here before and was a little disappointed and thought I’d try again. I was disappointed again. Probably won’t return. Service was good, just not the food.

   Service was great. Server was knowledgeable,attentive, and efficient. Restaurant was busy but the kitchen was keeping up. Food is always very good. The Tomato Bleu Cheese soup is always tasty. The Calamari was almost a meal it self. Highly recommend Monkey Cat.

   The menu for Restaurant Week in Auburn was very good . Good value for what you got. The Calamari was very good, the Caesar Salad was very good, my Salmon was excellent and my Creme Brûlée was very good. We eat here often and have never had a bad meal - at least not recently. We ate here 5 or 6 years ago and we were disappointed but decided to try it again and this is now one of our favorite restaurants.

   We like this place, but it was freezing cold. We and other patrons had our jackets on the whole time. Food was hot and good. Overpriced at 30+ for 4 scallops, overcooked tough corn in the same dish. That being said the stir fry w chicken was delicious. Staff very nice, quick and attentive. They need an outside door to keep the cold/heat out.

   Our server was a delight; her energy contagious. We had a great time and we’re seated at a booth as we requested. Great food. One of our first outings post-covid so it was special.

   The food was very good and service was good. This was a very noisy environment, possibly due to the remodeling which has greatly increased the bar area. It was so loud that clearly hearing others at our own table was difficult at times. Maybe the new remodel was intended to turn the Monkey Cat into a bar with food as compared to a nice restaurant that serves cocktails!

    Great food. Wish they had more shrimp options but the Scallops were wonderful. The risotto was a tad salty but still good. We will definitely be back.

    We returned to Monkey Cat with friends to celebrate our anniversary. The food and service always meets our expectations. The cheese cake and care brûlée was fantastic. It was very busy and at times the noise level made it difficult to have conversation but that being said we always enjoy the experience.

    Have been going to Monkey Cat for about 25 years and recently returned after missing visits during Covid. All pretty good food except fatty "short ribs". Excellent service though. The thing I really disliked was the 6%-7% add-on for using a credit card. C'mon, it's a cost of doing business today. Plus, it is costing them less than 3% and they are doubling it. That's horrible.

    For the price it’s just not worth it. My husband got the steak and frites and the steak had gristle riddled throughout, you couldn’t even cut it with a steak knife. I got the salmon which was decent but it came with a very boring white rice that had zero flavor and multiple clumps which is kind of a rookie mistake for a $40 plate. The martini was about 3/4 size of a standard pour and for $14 seemed kinda crazy. The crème brûlée was alright and service was fine but with a $250 tab for 4 people to have mediocre(at best) food, we won’t be going back.

    Food was mediocre. Butter salad had little to no cheese or pecans. It was basically lettuce and dressing. Wedge salad was not that great - didn’t like the dressing. Hamburger was ok. Bun was dry. Hamburger was thin and ok tasting. French fries were good. We won’t go back.

    They did a hanger steak that was supposed to be medium rare but I think they cooked it too hot, completely uncooked in the middle with a line of sinew right down the middle. They took it back but what can back was well done. Staff were very nice. Appetizers were pretty but lacked flavor.

    Cocktails need to be consistent. They are expensive so make them excellent. Your competition comes in strong. Just saying to be helpful, not rude.

    Very disappointed in variety of menu This is not upscale and online menu and actual menu so different. Dinners could have just been cooked at home, Wait staff very hurried and seemed to care less. This will not be a future choice.

    Great meal! Two of us had a seafood pasta special and one of us had scallops and risotto. Both expertly prepared by a chef that knows how to cook seafood! Server was excellent-she willingly checked on some food allergy questions - all with a great smile and friendly attitude. A little bit irritated with the credit card surcharge- would rather see it added to the cost of the food. But otherwise an excellent dining experience!

    We try and meet up with friends in Auburn. We decided to try the Monkey I set reservation for noon and last minute we had to move up to 12:30. This was no problem at all. We had soup n sandwich plus a glass of wine. Service- great Food- great Restaurant- great Location good with extra parking nearby

    Overall good experience but placed in the worst table, i.e. up against the bar we felt crowded and buried in the bar noise with people’s butt next to our heads as they stood at the bar Will not accept that seating again!

    I visited Monkey Cat years ago after you first opened a couple of times and really enjoyed your experience, restaurant and menue. At the time I was living in Fair Oaks so it was a bit of a drive. Fast forward many years and I have a friend who lives in Auburn so we visited for lunch yesterday and again it was great … that to me is the sign of a really good restaurant. Kudos to Monkey Cat for setting the standard of excellence in Auburn. I now live in El Dorado Hills.

    Took my mother-in-law from San Jose. She loved the chicken cordon bleu and the lemon drop cocktail. The brie was also excellent. We have never had a bad experience at Monkey Cat.

    The drinks were delicious. Caesar salad was disappointing. The chicken cordon bleu was superb. The risotto was bland. Wait staff is friendly, helpful and prompt. Ambiance feels too much like a bar and not a restaurant, which was disappointing. We had hoped for a darker, cozier vibe. We’ll go there again and try more menu items, and now that we know the atmosphere, we’ll adjust our expectations for next time.

    Monkey Cat is great! Had friends lunch there and we enjoyed the food and the service was excellent!! Many thanks to our server, Shauna, who was so friendly and so efficient, without being intrusive at all!! We will definitely have another fun lunch there.

    Exceptional service and the food was very well prepared with fresh ingredients. The calamari had a light crispy batter and was very tender. The seared scallops and risotto were perfect. Would definitely eat here again.
