Monello Ratings and Reviews
It was my daughter's birthday and despite informing the hostess/servers at the time the reservation was made, nothing special was done to make her evening any different than had we been there for a regular dinner.
The lobster pasta looked amazing but I was a bit disappointed that the time it took me to crack the shells and get the meat out so I could eat the rest of the dish went cold so it wasn't as appetizing as it could have been and the pasta seemed a bit overcooked too
I saw the Parmesan Wheel pasta on a random Instagram page last week. We happened to be in Little Italy having happy hour when our group decided that we were STARVING. I got on Open Table and they had a seating for us. YEY! We were not disappointed. 2 had the Parm wheel pasta, I had the Lobster spaghetti, and another had the pizza. We had the cheap Chianti ($40 😘🤣) - it was really good! All of us left fat n happy. We will definitely return. My recommendation for a date would be to split a Parm pasta and a pizza. The best of both worlds! Joel was out waiter. Outstanding service!
We had a wonderful experience! The risotto on the parmigiana wheel was fantastic! The reason for the 3 star on food, was that the lobster in the lobster pasta was way over cooked, and we never got a check back to address it. Also, the veal dish was underwhelming.
We were seated right away even though the restaurant was very busy. Our appetizers and main course came out at the same exact time which made for a very awkward dinner. We would have enjoyed the food more had we had time to digest between courses. Linguine with clams did not taste fresh although the pasta itself was fresh and cooked well. Fettuccine with sausage and truffle was very good. Would have loved a more leisurely experience here.
It was my wife’s birthday and I told them in advance and they didn’t even mention it. Not going to lie, I was a little bummed out. The place was empty mind you at 3pm.They could of came and said happy birthday or whatnot. Something. Or the chef coming to our table noting. Slightly disappointed.
I used to go to Monello often, I went yesterday for brunch but the quality of service and food wasn’t as good as my previous experiences. Cappuccino was cold and waiter told us that was the Italian way to drink it, too bad he was talking to an Italian person. Food was good not amazing though and the side of roasted potatoes was horrible we all left it in our plates. I think the size of the bombolone is smaller now, overall I just think the quality went down since last year.
Was excited about trying after seeing it featured on TV, only to be disappointed - the food was average, our server was chatty with everyone but our table, she was rather slow and found it extremely loud that it gave me a headache. Prefer the other neighborhood restaurants in little Italy.
This is a lovely Italian restaurant tucked in at the edge of little Italy. The service was quite impressive. The waitress was very prompt and provided good information about the menu. We ordered a bottle of wine which was absolutely delicious. The portion sizes are very generous. We ended up ordering the beet and arugula salad to start. It was a shareable size, and absolutely delicious. We also split to main dishes - truffle mushroom pasta and the octopus. We never had octopus before but after having it here, I definitely would get it again. The pasta was flavorful, light and a perfect complement to the octopus. Overall, this was a a great dining experience. I would go back again! Try to sit outside if you can!
We've been to Monello over 20 times and it's one of our GoTo spots. The food is always consistently good as is the service and bar. We frequently have Appertivo at the bar before dinner and the bartenders ensure the drinks are spot-on. The house-made vermouth is worth the trip just for a glass of that.
If you've been to Milan you can see the décor and if you close you eyes you can transport yourself, especially with the high-quality Italian (not Italian-American) specialties. If you are looking for a southern Italian "red-sauce" place, this is not it. The fact that they have some specialties from Emilia-Romagna where my family is from, such as piadine, makes this a "home-away-from-home" for us.
Great Lobster spaghetti and truffle pizza !! Made reservations during the week for an open table for my bf and I. We were going on a adventure for the weekend and definitely wanted to try this place out for our date Saturday night. Food and service did not disappoint. The thing about me is that I drink a lot of water so the server that was always filling up my water made it better lol. A waitress who came by multiple times was so nice as well. I wish I caught her name, but she cracked open our lobster for us so we wouldn't end up looking like a mess on date night. Thank you for a great experience. My bf and I loved the food, ambience, and service!
Very accommodating and delicious food and beverages! Our favorite part of this restaurant is their apertivo from 4-7 pm. With every drink order, the chef sends 2 small bites of his/her choice! Tried the pasta in the cheese wheel for the first time and it was a hit!
The restaurant was very busy in the Little Italy area of San Diego. My date and I had a delicious salad to start. I then had the mushroom and truffle caramel pasta and he had a prosciutto pizza. They were both very good. The pasta is made from scratch and the sauce was very special. I wish I had room for dessert because I am sure it would have been delicious. A great Italian restaurant with authentic taste. The only thing I did not like is that the tables are very close to each other and it is quite loud.
not our first time here. we LOVE Monello's! went after seeing a FB post that they were serving pasta with lamb ragu. took the drive down to little italy just for that.
enjoyed our dinner, though we would have liked a bit more lamb in our pasta. otherwise all GOOD!
