Monello Ratings and Reviews
Great Lobster spaghetti and truffle pizza !! Made reservations during the week for an open table for my bf and I. We were going on a adventure for the weekend and definitely wanted to try this place out for our date Saturday night. Food and service did not disappoint. The thing about me is that I drink a lot of water so the server that was always filling up my water made it better lol. A waitress who came by multiple times was so nice as well. I wish I caught her name, but she cracked open our lobster for us so we wouldn't end up looking like a mess on date night. Thank you for a great experience. My bf and I loved the food, ambience, and service!
Very accommodating and delicious food and beverages! Our favorite part of this restaurant is their apertivo from 4-7 pm. With every drink order, the chef sends 2 small bites of his/her choice! Tried the pasta in the cheese wheel for the first time and it was a hit!
The restaurant was very busy in the Little Italy area of San Diego. My date and I had a delicious salad to start. I then had the mushroom and truffle caramel pasta and he had a prosciutto pizza. They were both very good. The pasta is made from scratch and the sauce was very special. I wish I had room for dessert because I am sure it would have been delicious. A great Italian restaurant with authentic taste. The only thing I did not like is that the tables are very close to each other and it is quite loud.
not our first time here. we LOVE Monello's! went after seeing a FB post that they were serving pasta with lamb ragu. took the drive down to little italy just for that.
enjoyed our dinner, though we would have liked a bit more lamb in our pasta. otherwise all GOOD!
Monello has amazing food and the service is great and it’s decently priced. I did mention that I did mention that we were celebrating my wife’s birthday so I kind of thought maybe they would’ve brought something out for her unfortunately they didn’t no big deal but we are regulars there. Food is great so we will be back of course
Disappointed! We’ve dined here on several occasions in the past and always enjoyed the pizzas (picante specifically) and pastas, but our most recent visit was disappointing. The carbonara pasta ordered by two of us was drown in egg, bacon and oil...not at all authentic and far too rich to enjoy. Likely will not return...
All and all it is a good restaurant. We had asked for separate checks as some people drink and some do not. I waitress said we cannot have that but she would put drinks and one bill and then put on the other and then we could separated ourselves. It is not what we wanted and by the time we figured it out and then had five different credit cards it would’ve been much easier if we each could’ve had her own check. I’m sorry we didn’t call the manager over to deal with it
It was restaurant week and was excited to try Monello. We made a reservation through open table . We looked online both on restaurant week website and Monello to see if they were having lunch on Sunday . Once we were seated the waiter , who wasn't very good by the way , told us they were only doing brunch on Sat. and Sun. and didn't honor the special menu. Why isn't that listed on either website? .The waiter was from Brazil and was very slow on getting our order, and getting us our check. We had to ask for the check twice. We were not in that big of a hurry and the restaurant wasn't that busy but he seemed not to be responsive. We did get our drinks refilled often and our plates were taken away soon after eating but that was a busboy and not the waiter. would I go there again? Probably not. There are so many restaurants in that area that are more responsive.
Went during the Risotto cheese wheel on Wednesday. The white truffle was amazing and had some of their Gnocchi also. The presentation of the cheese wheel, the flavors, the way she described it, it was an overall beautiful experience. At the end of the day I was just trying to impress my date, haha! Mission accomplished
It was my third time there, and probably my worst experience with the food.
We came on cheese wheel night. Was so excited. Tried bone marrow for the first time. Not sure what it was suppose to taste like, but it was completely gelatinous. So disgusting, we each took a bite and left it.
I felt a little shorted, for paying so much for a plate of seasoned Tagliatelle. Might be a bit more hesitant about driving so far to come here again soon.
Beautiful ambiance. Nice staff.
We enjoyed our visit. Just wanted to give the feedback that while our server was excellent and the staff was friendly, we had a lot of additional staff coming to our table which became a little too much. Someone was hovering over us every other moment and we felt rushed from one course to the next.
This was our second time to Monello and we were blown away again! The service was excellent and the food was absolutely amazing. We'd definitely recommend the Cheese Wheel special, whatever it is that night. The homemade gnocci and signature Monello sauce we're also delicious.
I heard about the infamous cheese wheel from friends who posted on Instagram and just had to try it out for myself. I must say, I WILL BE BACK!! They only do the pasta special dish on Tuesdays and Thursdays and then risotto special dish on Wednesdays. Reservations are highly recommended if you plan to dine in for that. I can't wait to go back to try more of the menu. The in house made pasta is DELICIOUS :) Staff is very friendly and VERY ATTENTIVE with clearing our plates and refilling your water too!
A friend and I went for the cheese wheel. We went on Wednesday and they told us every week is something new and Wednesday was a duck risotto. It was delicious. We split the cheese wheel and another dish. Only bad thing was we sat outside and the hostess didn't tell us they couldn't bring the cheese wheel outside so we didn't get to see them light it up and serve it to us.
Have visited San Diego many times. Little Italy has a vibrant food scene and wanted to try a new Italian restaurant. Interior has that noisy, industrial, atmosphere. Hard surfaces with tables that "rock". Ordered a negroni which was good. House made vermouth. We were given a sample to taste separately. Fritto misto was so so, not hot enough! Shrimp with arribiata sauce just okay. Caesar salad fair and when I asked our server for anchovies, she said she didn't think they had any. No anchovies? This is Ceasar at an Italian restaurant! Next up, cacio e pepe e.v.o.o., black pepper, pecorino with spaghetti. WORST pasta we have ever had. Instead of the olive oil, black pepper with light cheese, it was just a heavy cheese sauce without enough pepper. Yuck
