I took my fiancé here (The Monarque- Baltimore) for his birthday. The staff was exceptional! Our waiters name was Jaquan (JQ), ask for him! He was great! The drinks were strong and tasty. The food was immaculate. The burlesque show was very entertaining and different (compared to the Baltimore date night scene, or lack there of). We will definitely be returning.
I ordered the Monarque Grand Plateau which is basically a seafood trio consisting of lobster, shrimp, raw oysters and mussels. My fiancé ordered the bone in Delmonico and the Mac and cheese, he loved it!
Management was very rude towards the end of the evening. If the urgency to leave by 10 PM is adamant, I suggest that Monarque not have an 8:30 PM dinner reservation available. I had made my reservation in advance, my fiance and I arrived on time and we had to wait at the bar for 15 minutes for our table to get bussed.
We were told more than once that we needed to leave by 10 PM during our dinner by multiple people in management - first, we absolutely understand protocol and we were just finishing our drinks when it was closer to 10 and second, how are we supposed to enjoy and finish our food with multiple interruptions? It was unbelievably rude for management to say, "folks you need to leave NOW" - speaking to us as if we were children when we were absolutely compliant and felt rushed to finish our meals and drinks. Honestly, if it wasn't for that, we would come again. There are other ways to be told that with better words and to be said in a nicer tone. Also, I'd like to point out that there was a large group that was quite loud and taking their sweet time to leave and no one seemed to be down their throats the way my fiance and I were spoken to.
Overall, the entertainment, food and drinks were awesome - I wish I was able to savor it instead of inhale it. Service at the hostess stand, bar and waiter (shout out to Davonte!) was excellent. Management, you could do better.
The team once again superseded all expectations. Safety was unparalleled and service as expected. Everyone from the hostes to the owner and everyone in between made sure we were all comfortable and provided an experience that was beyond reproach.
Overall - 3 stars because they lack steps that their competitors are taking to ensure the safety of their patrons during the pandemic. Specifically, no temperature was taken before entry, no list of symptoms shown to patrons to declare before entry, competitors are using digital menus to limit exposure to hand-held ones... Make all or some of these improvements, and I would give it at least another star. Beautiful interior, fresh food, well-made cocktails, polite staff are all high marks for Monarque. Slight low marks are confusing entry area (yes, I know there is a lit sign hanging from the corner of a building they share space with, but find another way to make it clear to guests where they need to go) and restrooms are nice , but not clearly marked and one can accidentally stumble into the kitchen/staff area. Great concept for a restaurant. We came to early for the show, but would love to see it in the future.
Very impressive and unique dining experience.
Beautifully designed space, impeccable service and incredible food. Another must-visit addition to the baltimore city dining scene.
An incredible experience. Everything— from the food, to the service, to the atmosphere exceeds expectations. The food is masterfully prepared. I highly recommend the dry aged bone-in ribeye. I ordered it medium rare and it came out a PERFECT medium rare, which seldom happens even in very decent restaurants. The drinks were also fantastic and you can tell a lot of effort was put into matching the cocktail menu to the aesthetic in a very thoughtful way. Should you expect to drop a pretty penny at Monarque if you plan to indulge in a wonderful dining experience? Yes. Should you be mad about that? Absolutely not. I’ll gladly be back because the food was like nothing else you can find in Baltimore, and the the ambiance just makes you want to come back, have a couple drinks, indulge in the wonderful food and totally be in that moment. The only thing that outdoes the atmosphere of Monarque is the menu. Definitely one of the best dining experiences in the city.
I love this place. Great drinks, food, music, and service. Jervonte, our waiter, displayed grace and patience for two ladies who weren’t in a rush and wanted to enjoy the experience. We will be back!
We had a lovely dinner, the food was great and the atmosphere is wonderful.
everything was out of this world. Thank you so much to everyone for making our evening a fabulous one.
A tiny note - please train your staff to NOT clear a customer's plate away until all members of the table are finished with their meals. Thanks so much.
Excellent food and wonderful service. One of the best meals my fiancé and I have experienced.
Great ambiance and the food was amazing!
Great place for a date night or a celebration or if you want a fancy dinner. The food is amazing and pretty. The staff are very nice and the decor is beautiful!
We're always excited for new restaurant openings, and this one was no exception. Baltimore needed a fancy, upscale French restaurant. That is not exactly what this is.
Overall, we had a good meal, but there is room for improvement.
Pros: Very fresh salad and table-side beef tartar. Foie Gras was amazing. Savory and tender beef bourguignon.
Cons: Baguette was mediocre for a French restaurant and needed to be sliced better. It was tough to tear apart. No one should struggle with bread. Lol. Dessert options were not impressive. We had the pot de creme. It was just ok, although it was a very reasonable portion.
We were a bit underwhelmed by the aesthetics of the restaurant. The marble tables, leather benches and velvet stage current were beautiful. However, the floor was awful. It really detracted from those other finer touches and gave a cold element to the room. A rich carpet would have been much better suited for an upscale French dining room.
We were told there would be entertainment around 7:15. That did not happen. At 8:15, a stilt-walker appeared and circled the dining room twice. We left at 8:30 to see nothing more. The staff said the "real shows" go on at 10:30. Much to late. Entertain the people spending money on dinner, not those ordering a cocktail or two. In any case, that information should be available to the diner before they arrive.
There was a steady stream of cold air coming through the restaurant. Unless I'm outdoors, I do not want to eat with outerwear on, which is exactly what I did.
Lastly, our waiter was pleasant but too pushy. Let diners sip their drinks for a few minutes before hounding them for their entire order. What's the rush?
We'll try it again in hopes they work some of the kinks out.
Great concept! The French ambience is amazing! The menu is loaded with french favorites, such fois gras, French onion soup and escargot! Excellent steaks!
Took myself out and enjoyed everything
We celebrated our 10 year anniversary and our waiter Juquon was excellent! He did a great job taking care of us all night. His recommendations were were spot on and did not disappoint. We decided to hang around for the entertainment and the band completed the experience! We are already looking forward to returning for our next visit.
Amazing! From food, to service, to ambiance, everything was perfect!! Highly recommend!
The tuna tartare and steaks were excellent. Salads and sides need a bit of work. We really enjoyed the atmosphere.
Very expensive but very nice for a special occasion with a show.
