What Insiders Are Saying
Momotaro is like a Japanese Discovery Zone. You may need to sample the menu a bit, but hit your stride and it's a great meal.
My friends and I requested the omakase option and we were able to enjoy 12 courses. Each course was delicious and high quality. The servers were also very attentive and helpful. The only downside was that it was pretty loud so it was hard to hear the servers and each other. But overall, would recommend, especially the omakase!
We’ve been to Momotaro several times and it doesn’t disappoint. Food is great but service is even better. Our server was a true food lover who really enjoys talking about the different dishes and making recommendations. Portion sizes are small (kind of “tapas”) and I found it difficult to pair items (wish they had side dishes). But overall, loved it.
This is my second time here and I was very disappointed. The sushi was terrible. Nothing worse than mushy rolls! The service was outstanding and the other items we ordered were very good. I definitely recommend the fried rice and beef sliders.
Hands down the best sushi in Chicago! Momotaro's menu caters to the non-sushi lover as well, offering plenty of other Japanese style hot and cold plates. Great ambiance!
We ordered a few items off the menu and then let the server guide us through the rest of the evening. She was right on with her recommendations and we walked away wowed. Momotaro was definitely a high point in my trip to Chicago.
The food was excellent, combining high quality ingredients with traditional Japanese and Western cooking styles. Very knowledgeable wait staff, who could walk us through Sake pairings while still knowing in depth each dish on the menu. High end izakaya. Easily one of the best restaurants in Chicago, let alone in Boka Group's portfolio.
Awesome restaurant, and the service was great. I actually made a reservation for the wrong day and they were still able to accommodate me and my guest. The food was incredible, but more quality than quantity (which is a great thing!)
Best Japanese restaurant in The Midwest! Excellent experience.
Server was excellent. Food, as always, fresh and perfect.
Great food no matter what you get. Very fresh and delicious.
The nigiri preparation is good.
The service is slightly slow but our server knew the menu well. Excellent and creative sushi.
Unprecedented service. Amazing cuisine. Made for a special anniversary experience.
It was my second time dining at Momotaro. Both times hosting important business associates. The entire dining experience was/is consistently exceptional!! Momotaro is the best.
We ordered an additional roll (after eating our first courses) from our waiter. After waiting 20 minutes a manager came by and asked if everything was ok since we were sitting there with no food for so long. We said no and told her we had been waiting for 20 minutes for one additional roll. We also said that if it wasn’t coming soon to cancel it. She said she would find out what happened. After 5 more minutes our waiter came over and said the roll was canceled. The manager never came by again. And our waiter never apologized. The food was good, but I will never go back given this service.
Great food and service!
Great food in a very cool environment. Makes a great night out
Food was amazing, we ordered the tuna sushi roll, chicken dumpling, and my favorite- the beef fried rice that was cooked table side. Service was wonderful, bartenders, hostesses, and waiters were all wonderful.
I came here to celebrate my boyfriend's 30th birthday and they went above and beyond to make sure we had the most amazing time. The food was fantastic and everyone from the hostesses to the servers and the bussers were incredibly kind, polite and helpful in every possible way. Our server gave us great food and drink recommendations, though I'm not sure there is a single thing on the menu that wouldn't have been delicious. I plan on bringing many friends and family here in the future.
Excellent food and service
Best Japanese restaurant....
The environment and the food creativity level combine to bring you to the best culinary experience. Definitely, a most visit place in Chicago. Our server made it even better.
Anniversary with hubby
Server was not attentive and when we tried to order more food during the meal we were told it would be 40 minutes, very disappointing this was my 4th visit and by far the worst.
Difficult to find fish that melts in your mouth, pleasant personal... overall great experience!
Excellent service - very accommodating from the moment we walked in and attentive wait staff. Always a good time. Kind to the child.
Momotaro is a go-to anniversary place. We lived for 15 years in Japan and Momotaro has some of the best sushi in Chicago. The place is so expensive though...even more expensive than similar quality sushi in downtown Tokyo.
Overall we had a good experience. The cost of the food compared to the size was our only complaint. It had us leaving hungry even though we spent close to $600 (4 people + 4 cocktails + one bottle of wine). (We went hole and ordered a pizza, haha!) The flavor was incredible though but about 1-2 bites each. The service was a little intrusive too. We had someone at our table close to every minute refilling a centimeters worth of water and asking us if we were “still working” or “are you done” when there was still food on the plate. We were trying to ENJOY the food at a reasonable pace and were feeling super rushed. We almost told them to leave us alone because it had gotten to a point of irritation but didn’t want to seem like jerks and luckily the busier they got the less people were coming around. Like I said the flavors were delicious just not filling, desserts were all fantastic as well and better portion sizes too.
We arrived early and sat at the bar. My wife's Mojito was outstanding. My drink had a ginger taste and not to my liking. The bartender was gracious to change my drink. Awesome!
When we were seated, we had a quiet booth against the wall. Great for conversation.
Food selections at Momotaro is wonderful. Each dish had great flavor and textures. This was our 4th visit here and is one of my favorites in the city. The crowd is young with fun vibes.
We will be back again and again.
We went there to celebrate our engagement and they made the evening truly special. We were seated a little late but they made up for it with the amazing service. Thank you to the staff, waiters, cook..!
We had reservations for our anniversary and were 10 minutes late so they gave our table away. We then had to wait an hour to be seated on a Tuesday. The host felt bad for us and let us have a round of drinks on the house and once we were seated they gave us a small plate of grilled okra as an apology. The server seemed very frazzled, and although it took him a while to come to us to take our order, the food came out quick. It was good sushi with a cool flavor profile, but for the price probably not worth it.
Service for the first and main course was unusually slow, especially for a Tuesday evening.
Always enjoy the excellent food; however the poor service significantly impacted our experience.
It was my friend’s birthday and the food was amazing and they went out of their way to make sure we had a wonderful and special meal.
Excellent food, however, service was a bit slow and we had to track down our server more than a few times
This is an excellent restaurant! We had an awkward experience with another patron and the staff went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. The food was amazing start to finish, with interesting flavors and textures. High class place with high class people.
Wow wow wow - loved it ! Been trying to get in for a long time & well with the wait. Bar makes a good drink. Sushi rolls outstanding- fish is extremely fresh ! Very innovative dishes - beautiful setting- great service ! Very impressed- we all enjoyed it !
Did not have really high expectations for a Japanese restaurant in Chicago but this place was phenomenal and blew it all out of the water. We enjoyed a lovely dinner with a bit of everything on the menu. Really recommend the onsen tamago and fish selections. Leave room for the dessert too - they're doing more than just the basic matcha tiramisu or yuzu cheesecakes of the world.
It's expensive but definitely worth it. I think it helps to come in with some knowledge of Japanese cuisine already, because there are so many options that you need something to narrow down your choices. With that said, in general the best stuff was all very simple - nigiri and grilled items, along with cocktails. The service was fantastic.
Everything excellent from the service to the amazing food. A can’t miss place
