Chef's Seasonal Nigiri Selection*
spicy beef curry, scallion oroshi, black garlic oil
The experience was on point from beginning to end especially the food. Highlight included the grilled steak, beef rice bowl and the fresh tuna rolls. We’ll remember this meal for a long, long time.
Wonderful sushi and sashimi. Very unique and creative flavor profiles. Service was stellar. All servers clearly explained every item. Highly recommend.
Birthday celebration! Everything was perfect. Table ready. Service impeccable. I will definitely be back!
The ambience on the 2nd floor dining area is mediocre. Reservations should be accommodated on the main dining floor for a full experience.
I think the restaurant has a wonderful food and atmosphere. I think the amount of soy sauce should be reduced a little more.
Food was exceptional.
Service was good but a little slow on drinks
THE Best! Food, service, everything— incomparable!
I’ve been to momotaro several times over the last 4 years. This visit, the food was probably the best it’s every been- perfectly cooked, not over salted, not over cooked- the sushi was fresh and excellent.
The only reason I can’t give 5 stars across the board is the service was not smooth; they were obviously In a rush to get us out before we even got started, that’s the impression we got anyway. We felt very rushed. I spent $330 for a meal for 2 people, once I added tip, I spent $400 for a meal for two of us- the food was worth it- the service made me feel like I was taking too long at a table in McDonald’s.
That being said, I realize the servers are probably not experienced, considering we’re in midst of pandemic, and they did tell us ahead of time our reservation was for a 2 hour time slot- we got out in 1:45hr. But we still felt very rushed.
The best as usual!
Thank you for the wonderful service and food! I will be back again.
Overpriced... to go menu was better than dining in.
The food is always outstanding, but we were disappointed to have to wait ten minutes for our table, only to be seated upstairs next to a loud table. They sat two of us at a table for 6, making for a less-than-intimate dining experience. I believe this was at least partially due to Covid restrictions, but I think there needs to be thought out into placing guests in areas based on the party size.
Cannot wait to go again! The food was incredible, as was the sake. Our server was a terrific person, but she kept 'disappearing'. I did not hold that against her, as we are in 'new and trying' times.
My first major dining experience since the pandemic and wow, what an amazing experience. I've been to Momotaro before, it was as outstanding as I recall. Every piece of fish was fresh and delicious. Wait staff very helpful answering questions and making fantastic recommendations-the octopus stands out as an outstanding recommendation that I would likely have not thought to order- I usually leave octopus to the greeks who do it so well but this was as good as any greek octopus I've had. I will be back.
Restaurant is my go-to for top quality sushi. Been here twice and both times have been amazed at the quality of sushi that they provide. They do not fail to meet my expectations. However, if you're looking for cheap sushi (or even moderately priced sushi) then this place probably isn't for you.
The sever wasn’t professional and put dirty plates which from other tables on my table. It’s disgusting!!! Really disappointed.
Momotaro is the best Japanese restaurant in Chicago. Their sushi is exquisite and combined with some amazing dishes to start, it is well worth your trip. Service is always warm with helpful explanation of the dishes.
Momotaro is my favorite restaurant in the city. The quality of everything is amazing. Everything is unique and delicious! It is pricey but worth it. Plates are pretty small but this allows you to try more things. The izakaya downstairs is also amazing, beautiful, and so atmospheric! It captures the feeling of a Japanese izakaya wonderfully.
Place is always great. Can't miss on the food and the service is always top notch. Highly recommend.
Everything was wonderful! The salmon belly bite was definitely a favorite!
In this complex time the staff at Momotaro was neither judgmental nor uncomfortable. They understood how to both be safe and to engage diners around food and companionship. Kudos!
Great place with amazing Food!
Originally the host tried putting us upstairs which has no ambience at all so we sat downstairs in a booth instead.
The food was good, but I think I’d prefer going to a standard sushi restaurant over this menu. I just wasn’t super impressed.
The service was not very attentive and left all our drinks on the table and didn’t pick up after them.
Also there’s this terrrrible burnt smell like every 10 minutes. There’s not a good ventilation system there.
Beautiful restaurant inside but won’t be back.
Momotaro was fantastic!! I am not a huge sushi lover but I 100% loved the sushi here. It was extremely fresh and well prepared. Definitely going back here.
Exceptional food, service, and company. Looking forward to the next chance to dine here again.
Not your ordinary sushi combinations! Everything fresh. Grilled robata, especially meats, were excellent! Great selection of drinks! Perfect for celebrating a special occasion.
We took our family including our 15 year old, 12 year old and 8 year old and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our waiter and the rest of the staff were so helpful. The “tapas” style led to us trying all kinds of things that we probably would never have order as individual entrees and that alone made it a great experience. The food was awesome. Never had anything like the beef fried rice with its presentation and it was really great. We will be back.
really pretty restaurant and food was so amazing, want to go back and try more of the rabata appetizers.
Everything was fantastic at Momotaro. Fish was exceptionally fresh. Lamb chops were great too. Our server was attentive and patient with us too.
Amazing meal, attentive service, will be back
Have had many meals at Momotaro. Food quality, taste and presentation is always exceptional. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a great meal.
Our service was way off. Not sure what our server had going on, but she clearly forgot about our appetizers and sashimi, she never checked back until after our rolls were gone. When I ordered wine, she came back to the table and told me the $55 bottle of white wine was not available. She came back with a recommendation for $120 and offered no discount. A very disappointing dining experience for a $300 dinner for two.
Outstanding. One of the best in the city. My favorite restaurant.
Always a great experience at Momotaro. Service was warm, genuine, and informed. Started our night here for nigiri and cocktails. It was perfect.
Host was hasty and eager to provide service as were the runners and wait staff. Great food, did not take forever after ordering. Big place, I think there were three levels. So happy to dine in during covid and they have some glass dividers between some of the booths that don’t look out of place or like an add in.
I found it very pricey and frankly I was hungry when I left.
Great food and great experience. Definitely a must
Great staff. Took care of us and made sure to make the night special in a few small ways. We were celebrating a career milestone.
Good food and service was also good! Our waitress was very friendly and explained the specials to us! The Momotaro sushi & izakaya was good! Would probably have loved the izakaya even more, so I’ll be trying the izakaya soon! Have to say that spaghetti was my favorite dish! They had a limited wagyu roll that was divine, but I don’t think it’s on their regular menu anymore! Loved their seasonal cocktail too!
Waited a little long on our last sushi dish so we were feeling about finished by the time the last dish showed up—so timing-wise, not the worst, but a little off. Overall experience was really nice though! Absolutely love the ambiance and welcoming nature of the staff. Would definitely come again!
