I know it's still a pandemic and they're trying to turn tables, but everything was super rushed. And the host just "stopped by" the table to see how everything was during the dessert. It was obvious he wanted us to get out of there. At these prices one should be allowed to enjoy a bit longer.

Spend your hard earned money elsewhere. For such a highly recommended restaurant I was surprised to have such a lackluster experience here.
Firstly, this restaurant is not for groups. We were fit into a small moon shaped booth and only fit as 2 people were children. Drinks and soy sauce spilled as we simply tried to pass and share plates, it was a small table. We had nowhere to put or hang winter jackets and were told to sit on them or throw them over the back. Several jackets fell behind the booth which picked up all the dust from behind and against the wall. We brought flowers and presents to celebrate multiple occasions delayed by covid restrictions and had them crammed under our feet and in between us.
The food, which was raved about in reviews, was nothing to write home about. The sushi rolls were expensive for 6 thumb sized pieces with no flavor (you needed all the soy sauce they gave you). The Japanese pate appetizer came with 4 toast points with 6 diners at the table. More bread took an additional 30 minutes to bring. The robata was ok, pretty standard cuts of meat, but for me it was the delivery of the skewers with no instrument to cut or separate then to share, which the server said is encouraged, but when asking for knife we waited 10 minutes and the meat was cooling.
The benefits surcharge on the bill was also discouraging. Either bake the cost into the already high cost of your plates or pay your people a living wage. Don't base the surcharge off the cost of the bill, I want your staff well compensated and taken care of.
All in all, there are incredible dining experiences in Chicago worth the drive, the time, and the money, save your hard earned money and skip this restaurant.

Omakase was just ok. The real wasabi was mushy and diluted. Scallop dish was not edible. The cod is good but don’t expect it to be like other miso cods of the likes of nobu or blue ribbon. Cool-ish scene.

One of the best dining experiences Ive ever had. The food was as amazing as the service. The servers treat you like you're a V.I.P., if you want to impress a guest and or observe magic before your eyes take them there. Everything they do there will be better than anywhere else you've ever had it, the culinary expertise is extraordinary.

Food was very unexceptional. Sushi was subpar/ could’ve had a similar experience at a casual Japanese restaurant. Hot dishes weren’t anything that warranted the price. Nothing was memorable. Food also took forever to come.

Momotaro is like a beautiful garden of decor, food, and drink. Whether you want to lose yourself in the lush sake menu options, or the amazing sushi, you're not going to regret it. Make sure to try the octopus appetizer.

Very good. Lighting was a bit dark for me but wasn’t too bad. Customer service was great free edamame after they couldn’t do one starter for us. Mapo Tofu was incredible. Chef’s seasonal selection of Sashimi was expensive. Maybe not value for money but definitely an experience! Overall great and would love to go again when visiting Chicago

The food was amazing and the staff was very knowledgable the menu and what to recommend. My friend said she had the best sushi roll of her life here - the one with salmon skin. The dessert was my favorite - miso blondie brownie with roasted banana gelato and coconut caramel coffee. 10/10

The service was amazing. It was our anniversary and everyone who served us greeted us with a "happy anniversary" before anything else. The service was very accommodating. The pacing of which the food came was very good. Not too fast, and would come shortly after we finish the previous dish. A great place was a special event. Smaller groups are definitely better

The food was impeccable but there were so many little misses in the environment. We were seated in the middle of the room & every time the door opened there was a blast of cold air. The wine glasses were the most laughably cheap things I’ve ever seen at a restaurant other than Applebees. And our table had uneven legs so every time you reached for something it wobbled. You can forgive those things at a certain price point but for what Momotaro charges I expected a bit more.

Came here November 12 th Friday evening with some friends . I hadn’t been here in two years and always had a really consistent experience of good service. However this time our waitress was inexperienced and was not comfortable speaking about vegetarian options. Her attitude was off putting and she was not receptive to working with us on options. I ordered their specialty gin and tonic cocktail and it was watered down . I had to send my drink back and get a regular one which was made correctly . My husband also said his drink was watered down which is a bartender issue. The waitress did go back to the chef and make the inquiries re: veggie options we had asked for. In the end the veggie dishes she brought out were delicious but her attitude led to a disappointing experience at Momotaro. Will not be coming back as food maybe good but the waitstaff service was a bummer.

Excellent food! Had a group of 6 so we tried a lot of dishes and I can say every dish was amazing. Highlights were the waygu sliders, chef’s seasonal nigiri selection, chicken thighs, and shio koji sake roll (their take on salmon avocado roll). You really can’t go wrong with any of the sushi as everything was extremely fresh. Great service as well. Would definitely go back.

The only thing that could be better at Momotaro would be a lower noise level.
