This place is hot
Sushi is overrated.
When we walked in and the restaurant was bare they tried to seat us right by the front door. We had a reservation for 6:00 pm. We asked to be moved to the back of the restaurant in a booth. The hostess got snippy and said that’s fine but we have to be done by 8:00 because that booth was reserved. The one next to us was open the entire 2 hours we were there. There was no reason for her attitude. The food was good but portions are small and overpriced.
The food does not miss any marks. The fatty tuna and beef tartare are MUST orders. The ambiance of this restaurant makes you wanna stay for another drink and dessert, as well.
Can't wait to come back!
Absolutely incredible. Definitely the finest sushi you’ll find within a 1000 mile radius.
Just about everything we ate was amazing. The Wagyu Tartare, Scallop Motoyaki, and Tako were delicious and well presented. I would highly recommend the Chef's Seasonal Sashimi. Presentation was awesome and the fish was incredibly fresh. The only underwhelming dish was the Tontoro, which was presented somewhat plainly and was just OK. While Berkshire pork is generally delicious, the dish was missing something and didn't really excite.
The ambiance and service were excellent. It was a bit noisy, but that's to be expected for a packed restaurant. Pricing is definitely reasonable for what you get. I'll definitely be back.
We came here to celebrate my husbands birthday. He was very excited to try Gene Kato menu, as he is one of his favorite Chiefs. However I was so disappointed in the restaurant, it was no the same as I remembered it. The food was good, the service was not great. They don’t have kids cups, but have high chairs - strange, they charged us 3$ for extra 3 pieces of toast of the size of the cracker. Which is ridiculous. My daughter was eating eat, and you would think for the prices they charge they wouldn’t go that low. We ordered two bottles of wine, but all my husband got was a little pocake. Which is kinda rude, you should have brought at least a scoop of ice cream for the table.... needles to say we will not be back and will not recommend this place anymore.
Incredible. Go! Don’t hesitate. Just do it.
Amazing meal! Amazing drinks! Amazing service! Amazing everything! Great quality sushi with an added bonus of being able to order fresh grated wasabi! The robata menu was amazing and very tasty . Cannot wait to venture back here!
Amazing food and great service. Crab leg appetizers was delicious. Sushi rolls were fresh and fantastic. Beef sliders were also delicious. If there had to be a complaint it would be the noise level. Vibrant atmosphere but difficult to hear people you sit with because so loud.
Incredible! I was impressed not only by the food and ambiance, but also by the service! Every staff member that we interacted with knew it was my significant other's birthday, and they really made us feel special. Well done!
The food is amazing...the drinks amazing...the service amazing...had a great time.
I’ve been wanting to go this place but the menu I was looking for wasn’t available and the menu didn’t really explain the portion. For example, I order tontoro (2 skewers for $16 btw) and a lot for he places would say how many skewers I will be getting but it didn’t say anything on the menu. The portion overall is very small and the place is very loud. My friends and I couldn’t even have a proper conversation. Will not be returning.
Gorgeous decor, great food, wonderful service. The bar downstairs is great!
Been going here for years and the ambiance, service, cocktails, and quality of sushi never disappoints. One of my favorite Chicago restaurant establishments.
Always a pleasure to eat here! My boyfriend and I went here to celebrate our 4 year anniversary after our flight to New York got cancelled and we spent the evening trying to get refunds on our tickets, hotel, and dinner reservations. Everyone was so understanding and seemed to hear about our situation and stop by our table to wish us a happy 4 year anniversary! It was so nice of them! Chef Gene Kato also sent over 4 amazing desserts. So happy to have ended our night celebrating at Momotaro. We wouldn't have had it any other way. Thank you again for such an amazing experience yet again. Stand out dishes for us today were the Shiitake and the Cold Tofu as always!
Tasty eats. The barracuda and crab leg were my favorites. Oysters are huge, so I woukd just order one per person.
Veeery good! The only caveat is this time the Otoro was not as buttery as we are used. But the special Red Snapper was superb
Wonderfull Place and the Food Was delicius only the noise is horrible
The food is amazing. Everything we had was perfect. We had a great experience. The service was amazing too. All the food was explained to us nicely when served. We sat at the Counter and were able to see the Sushi being made.
My boyfriend and I came here for our anniversary, and noted that in our OpenTable reservation that we're celebrating our 2nd anniversary. They wished us as soon as we checked in, gave us a nice comfy table, and made us feel extra special. We really appreciate the service and the high quality of food here -- we're vegetarian, and though the vegetarian menu is much smaller, it's all super delicious food!
Spectacular meal. Every bit was perfection. The salmon belly will haunt me for months. Just a wonderful sushi experience.
Waitress was very helpful and accommodating to our large group
The food was absolutely wonderful. The restaurant itself didn't have any particularly striking decor, so I rated it...a restaurant. Totally worth the price of admission, however. We had a number of rolls, a few special pieces, a couple of warm dishes, and a few desserts. Not a complaint to be had on the lot.
Excellent food and service. Recommend it highly. Especially good for larger parties.
Great food and great service!
Great as always
My absolute favorite!!
Too noisy to talk. Excellent food and service. Unique menu.
Another great evening at Momotaro. The food was outstanding and very flavorful. Our waitstaff was helpful and attentive. The chicken oysters were very flavorful and juicy. We also had the gobo, spaghetti, tsukune, tako and tofu fried noodles. The sushi was delicate, fresh and delicious! The sake (Cloudy Dreams, Drunken Snapper and Snowflake) was crisp and refreshing. I can’t wait until my next visit!
Absolutely fantastic! In the elite Chicago food scene
Food was great. One of the best sushi places for certain. Pricey.
The perfect mix of traditional and fusion, Momotaro did not disappoint. I have lived in Osaka and worked at a sushi restaurant in NYC. And, I was left with nothing but great things to say. Miguel was extremely knowledgeable about the menu. The food, ambiance and staff all made our experience over-the-top!!!
Momotaro is a great place to keep returning to. Depending on the occasion one can dress it up or keep it business casual. I've even dined in on my own at the bar before and its always nice to know how knowledgeable the staff is about the food. Its easy to either fly solo or blind omakase with a few pointers here and there. I suggest try the Monks Journey with your sushi
The food is always amazing. The turnaround time for food was a bit slow - but it was the quality we love.
I liked the food alot here. The drinks were also pretty incredible. Unfortunately, our waiter was not the best. Every time we would order he would come back a few minutes later to confirm what we had just ordered. We were a group of 5 so we were a good-sized party, but still - he had to re-confirm all of our drinks and the majority of our food orders. He never thought to write it down! I would ultimately recommend this restaurant for a date night or small group. I think 5 people was too much to get the full experience and will probably go back with a group of 3 tops.
Overhyped and overpriced. Our server was great but the hostess had no interest in even asking us if we were ok with the table. It was probably the most dimly lit table in the whole restaurant. Not great for someone celebrating their 56th birthday - something she pretended not to hear when mentioned! The food at best was mediocre, with some items inedible. I have dined at almost every restaurant belonging to the BOKA group. They universally great experiences. This must be one exception or a terribly off night.
It was my first time eating at Momotaro. Disappointing .... very disappointing. Our waitress was rude. Food was 1.5 hours late and dishes came out separately throughout the night. Despite the fact that the restaurant was not full, the waiters were overwhelmed, the food was very late, the service was subpar. Even though we asked for the manager the first time it really lead to nothing and the food was still late even after we complained about the wait over 3 times. I then asked for the manager the second time, so we got the general manager who was very apologetic and did in the end discount our bill. However this does not make up for the fact that we had to wait over two hours all in all to be served our food. That being said, the food was not all that. Really not worth the hype. Will not be going back there again.
