What Insiders Are Saying
Momotaro is like a Japanese Discovery Zone. You may need to sample the menu a bit, but hit your stride and it's a great meal.
It was dank.
Food and atmosphere are always excellent. A minor slip up on service this time but we will be back!
A disgraceful experience. Most disorganized place ever visited.
Christopher was a wonderful server! Extremely helpful and pleasant!
The service and attitude of the bartender (Izakaya) was below par. One we got seated, the dishes we got served lacked in taste. We were disappointed and told the hostess that. Thankfully she waived our dinner so no issues there, but it was still disappointing the food didn't taste good enough for the price. I've been to momotaro 1.5 years ago and remember being very impressed, which is why I took my friends there on their special day.
Very good, thank you for your attention.
Great place! Food was 10/10
Great variety. High quality ingredients. Service was so so.
I’ve been here once before a couple months ago and our server was extremely rude, food was good, but didn’t blow me away like I was anticipating by the hyped up comments from friends. Anyway, I decided to try it again just because it deserved a second try, a server can have a bad night and ruin an experience but I don’t like to judge a restaurant bc of an off server.
I’ve had much more flavorful and inventive sushi elsewhere in chicago and around the country. The service this time was impeccable!! That made the night but I wouldn’t drop $350 or $600 like last time again for momotaro it’s just not worth it to me when we have so many options in the city.
Trop de bruit et trop cher !! To noise.... to expensive! Dommage car l’ambiance et la cuisine y est très raffinée et très délicates avec des saveurs bien typées. Le rapport qualité/prix n’est pas raisonnable et cohérent, mais...... nous sommes à Chicago = cher et bruyant !
The best sushi I’ve ever had. The service is top notch every time I come here and the food is always so fresh and so perfect. Highly recommend.
nice restaurant, very good service. but the fried rice and miso soup were too salty for me. The uni egg custard was fantastic
Many of the yakitori were slightly over cooked and burnt. They had a bitter burnt taste.
Muy bien el arroz sabía mucho a pescado pero lo demás muy rico
One of the best sushi restaurants I’ve been to. Super fresh!!
The food took ages to arrive.
The best drinks, sushi and service.
I have been here in the past and the sushi was so much better before. My friend lives in Ohio and had not had sushi in a year so I was excited to take her here. However, It was all salty. The waiter recommended a freshwater eel ‘bite’ and I pulled about 7 bones out of my mouth - I didn’t even know they had bones! I told him and they still charged us for it. The sushi was boring and salty. The skewers were the best part - chicken meatball and flank steak. And they sat us at a table - with a reservation 6 inches from the table next to us! So annoying
Amazing food and great ambiance
The food here is outstanding! Love the service and every item we order is amazing!
My favorite Japanese restaurant in town, a wonderful dining experience from Japanese Weißbier all the way to awe-inspiring deserts. Only the miso soup was sort of unimpressive, I have had more interesting miso soup more than once elsewhere.
Traveled all the way from Guam to try this restaurant— it was SO worth it :) We will definitely be back!
First time eating at Momotaro and it was excellent. From the hostess to wait staff to back of the house everything was perfect. Our waitress was knowledgeable and made great recommendations, the food was outstanding and they even gave us complimentary champagne for our anniversary. I would highly recommend.
In all, I had really high hopes from the general buzz about the restaurant around town, but unfortunately I was a bit underwhelmed. Our server was very knowledgeable and gave great recommendations, though it seemed like he was spread thin between too many tables. At some times we had to ask bus staff to call our waiter over after long gaps of not being seen. I thought all of our hot plates were wonderful -- very creative dishes that were well though-out. The nigiri and sashimi, however, were what did not "wow" me. The nigiri was pretty bland and actually a little tough.
I live near by and always saw how busy the restaurant was and wanted to give it a try. Very nice restaurant and good drinks but unfortunately for our opinion the unique food was not our taste from what we ordered. Everything was plated beautifully and I can see why it people might enjoy it but the flavors just weren’t our cup of tea.
Overall, I really enjoyed our meal at Momotaro. The only reason I did not give it a higher rating was that I felt the prices were a bit steep. When combining the price point with the quality of the meal, my overall view was that it was a really good restaurant, which I would be happy to go back to if invited. But, given the large number of excellent restaurants in Chicago, I do not feel the need to rush back. Rather, I would prefer trying other higher price point restaurants first before going back.
The service really went downhill over the last year.
It was a lovely evening. Food, quality & taste, ambience, service, but the noise level is too high.
Food is excellent and authentic but drinks are expensive. Better eat and drink elsewhere if you are sake lover.
Truly outstanding. Fun and delicious. Great atmosphere and very attentive, professional service.
I have been here a few times before and noticed the same menu ( no change and taste like thw quality of dish has changed)
and waiters were changing a plate almost every ten minures and asking "can I take this plates away" so manytimes.
felt like they trying to kick us out as early as possible
it used to be good but now just A okay restaurant
And Mentaiko spaguetti, OMG i am from Japan and i know how much is Mentaiko cost but it was just too expensive for the portion. Unagi don was so so. rice was too hard and they packed too much rice in a small bowl.
And bad taste Of music
Excelent ambience with high quality food and cocktails. Portions are small so you may have to order many dishes. Highly recommended !
Rachael went above and beyond to create a special experience for our table.
This place does not disappoint
Fantastic food and service!
The food was excellent! We are at this bar. The bartenders were great. Tiger food took along time to come out of the kitchen. Enough so it took away from the meal
Delicious Japanese food and very fresh sushi in warm atmosphere with great service.
This ranks right up there with the best sushi I’ve ever had. While it is the same quality and spectacular presentation as O Ya in Boston and Sushi Hashiri in San Francisco, what sets Momotaro apart from those places is that you DON’T have to commit 2-3hours.
AND the service here is super friendly and fun and personal, not stuffy or overly formal.
It was fantastic. The food was amazing
The food was good but for an omakase menu very very little fish. I don’t want spaghetti or steak when I go to a great sushi restaurant. Also extremely expensive.
Staff was super friendly and helpful. I wasnt sure what to get but both the bartender, and my waiter (Jordan) did an amazing job helping me order!
