Momofuku Ssäm Bar
Momofuku Ssäm Bar opened in New York City’s East Village in 2006 and serves a menu that draws inspiration from flavors and techniques found worldwide, while staying true to its New York roots.
For lunch, Ssäm Bar offers a rotating menu, including the duck ssäm, steamed pork buns, and seasonal accompaniments. At dinner, the restaurant serves an inventive menu that is always evolving. The restaurant also offers large format meals and prix fixe menus for groups as well as private dining options.
Very hospitable service and the food was a m a z i n g! Definitely a highlight for Valentines Day this year!
Had our valentines date at Ssäm bar. Was a nice experience. The waiters were attentive and suggestive. The meal had a nice ambiance to it, and generally had a good time.
We arrived on time for our 230p reservation and were told, last call (drinks and food)?was in 10 minutes. Then our waitress disappeared! Would we make the cutoff or not? A busboy got another waitress and we asked her to put in an order of everything that was good (we were 5 people). The lemonade had soup in the bar glass which created soap bubbles and taste. The food though ;we made it!) was outstanding. FWIW we are all low key native NYers. Very surprised at lack of customer service.
The service was excellent. Waitress Even helped us out by bringing a non menu item for my dad with dementia who was upset about what he wanted to eat. It saved our meal. The food was delicious as always. It was quiet enough to have a conversation. Drinks were just as good as the food. Fried chicken, pork buns and brisket sandwich are all recommended
This used to be my favorite restaurant and I still frequent others of the namesake but this was a major disappointment today. The food had none of the wow factor or intense flavors I am accustomed to from David Chang’s food. It’s sad that my once favorite restaurant is now on the list of restaurants I will probably never return to.
Great food, good service, overall good value
Great food and energy! Took a client here and we had an incredible time.
Food is amazing although it can be pricey depending on what you order
One of the best meals ever!!! The Pork Buns were phenomenal. The Flatiron Steak was the best steak I’ve had in my life. And the coconut pie was just delicious!
All around amazing!
We had an incredible meal - loved the food, the cocktails and the hip-hop playlist. If I could change anything I would prefer to have sat at the front of the restaurant instead of in the back room
Food was spectacular
We had brunch, and it was amazing! I like the concept of only having a few things on the menu and executing them flawlessly. Some suggestions on sizes, since most people are foodies that come there, would be helpful. Best Bloody Mary I’ve had.
Just okay. Nothing special. I felt I could get simlar dishes elsewhere for less $ but just as tasty.
Ambiance, service and drinks were good.
Delicious and interesting Asian/Fusion food. The skate fish was excellent, with just a hint of spicey.
Ian was a great server.
It was an absolute pleasure to host a surprise dinner party with a group of 7, with Bo Ssam. Our servers were amazing and each dish surprised us and gave us memeorable experience communally feasting and celebrating together. Great value for what we had.
Food top - service arrogant
Ham taster plate outstanding but the coffee red eye aoli overpowered the ham rather than complemented. Croquet monsieur was over toasted/ brittle for my liking and felt like I was hunting for the brisket somewhat. The wedge with green goddess was my wife's favorite she wants to go back for that and also the steamed buns. All the non alcoholic fruity herby drinks great. Reasonable prices, great service, although a bit cramped-- we will be back
Disappointed with brunch menu on Saturday, much more limited menu ☹️
The pork buns and the selection of hams were both fabulous. The skate dish took a fabulous piece of fish and drowned it in heavy, salty, spicy sauce. the Korean rice cakes were good--a small taste would have been plenty: as a large serving it was again too heavy handed.
Great quality food in casual setting. Also good for groups.
The food was very overpriced for what it is. We ordered only vegetables (3 small plates) and our check was 70 dollar with taxes. We will never come back.
Every dish was unexpected, unfamiliar but so tasty. Not a single flaw.
Enjoyed the food we ordered and had a great time. The wait staff was friendly and attentive, but I felt that there was an assumption that we knew the menu inside out even though it was our first time to a Momofuku restaurant. No guidance was given about how many sides and mains we should order for a group of 4 and the food was served with no explanation. I felt like we were constantly flagging someone down to ask what was put down in front of us. That being said, the food was delicious. We enjoyed the pork and rice cakes. The pork buns were tasty, but a little over priced for what they were. The country ham was a crowd pleaser.
Ate there on a Saturday night at 5:30 PM. It was the perfect time bc it wasn't too busy yet. Duck Ssam was delicious; definitely worth it.
This was our first experience at a Momofuku restaurant. He pork buns were delicious, while the shiitake buns were just okay. Our dining companions got a curried potato with burrata which they loved. All the appetizers were very good. The entrees we got were very salty, including the skate and the mussel broth. We still really enjoyed the mussels, but the skate was too salty for our tastes. The drink and wine selection was very good. Overall, it was a good experience but I would try another restaurant in the empire before I’d return here.
Food was good. We tried half the raw items on the menu. Also tried some of the cooked foods such as the sirloin steak and couldn't get enough of it. Will definitely revisit in the future. Everything came out in a timely manner and we were seated immediately upon arrival with our reservation.
We had a wonderful dinner at Ssäm Bar, but the food at lunch was disgusting and the service uncaring and slipshod. We will never go back.
Excellently executed spin on familiar Korean-style dishes, including high-end steamed pork bun and fluke tartare. Most of the dishes we had were spectacular, like the aforementioned, and others were less spectacular but still quite tasty. We sampled nearly everything on the menu and left feeling satiated, but not stuffed. Dishes are pricey, but can be shared. Would recommend for date night or special occasion if you’re in the mood to try something interesting.
Could not have had a better experience at Ssäm. The reservations attendant called me repeatedly about my party and even arranged to have a giant duck wrap feast Alamo’s waiting for us when we arrived. The food was delicious and fairly priced. Cocktails were excellent as well. LOVED our night out here!
Momofuku Ssäm Bar has got to be the best restaurant I have ever been to. The food was so clever and perfectly executed, as were the cocktails. I particularly liked the Squad Goals cocktail on offer. The bar staff were very friendly and great to talk with.
We had a great brunch at Momofuku Ssam Bar. Food was excellent. I loved the fried chicken which was wonderfully spicy. The country ham appetizer was excellent. We made an Sunday brunch reservation. We were among the first to arrive and probably didn’t need a reservation, but it began to fill up while we were there. Everything was delicious and we plan to return.
We ordered a variety of dishes and thought it was fantastic. We'd all heard about this place and tried to make sure to order some of the classics. We thought it lived up to the hype!
I love Ugly Delicious and am a huge fan of David Chang. I was super excited to eat here but ending up leaving sad. It took me 30 mins to get the bottle of wine I ordered, rushed by the staff to order all my courses at once, and rushed to pay the bill. To top if off the expensive food I ordered didn’t taste as good because a horrible smell coming from the kitchen which smelled like boil out.
I just didn't get this place. The menu seemed very limited and, in the end, we ordered a couple of small plates (a small piece of cauliflower covered in some sauce was $20, if you please) and then went to eat somewhere else.
Pick any of the other 12,000 restaurants that are better than this place.
Food was cold, the tables too close and the waiter too eager.
I do not know where to start from. I made a reservation for 11:30am and we seated in same table with another group. The restaurant was very empty and we do not know why we got seated in same table with other people. We ordered 3 three different entree’s but they forgot to bring 3rd dish. After 2nd dish was finished, then they gave a check without serving 3rd dish. People who were serving us was very rude.
The menu was not appealing and we had a very bad service experience. It took 25 minutes past our reservation time to get seated and our drink order was messed up. We ended up leaving.
