Moltaqa Moroccan Restaurant
Beautiful and cozy Moroccan restaurant, that brings healthy and delicious food, wine varietal from all over the world and creates radiant oasis in the heart of Gastown.
Moroccan cuisine is a delicious combination of mouthwatering flavors that make it unique. Moroccan food is incredibly diverse, thanks to the country's interaction with other cultures and nations over the centuries. Influenced by Berbers, Arabs, Andalusian, Mediterranean and especially French.
We use traditional Moroccan Tagines for cooking, where the convection produced by the design of the pot cooks everything perfectly. The dish is naturally and continuously basted - ingredients are moist and the meat buttery.
No Fat, No Oils used. All our meat is halal and hormone- and antibiotic-free. We have also vegan and pescetarian options.
We came here for a birthday. The ambiance was nice. We ordered a few of the tagines to share: seafood, chicken, beef, octopus, lamb. All were good but the fav seem to be the beef and lamb. It’s a nice presentation when they bring out the dishes but once they lift the lids, portions seem a bit small. The bread they serve are nice and warm and soaks up the sauce nicely. They also gave the bday person a piece of cake so that’s alway a bonus.
We would come back here.
Owner and his partner are amazingly friendly and very hospitable
Overall this was a great experience. The teA to begin with was delicious. The eggplant appetizer could have been good. It was way too salty. The lamb was tender , the dessert yummy chocolatey!! Our waiter was very pleasant and attentive but I could see he was too busy. Would have been nice to have one more waiter for this busy Friday night! I would like to go at a less busy time, I wonder if they would have taken a little more time and care with the food preparation . The atmosphere and music was wonderful
We went there for Valentine's Day. The place overall is nice, but we were way too close to other people's tables. Very little intimacy there.
The menu was a special Valentine's Day menu, I was hoping to get the choice of the regular one but nope.
65 bucks per person, the food itself was pretty good but the portion size was ridiculously small. Come on guys, a tajine for 2, you get one tiny chicken leg and a small bowl of couscous to share ?! Not worth the price...
I was really looking forward to go there, but after that experience I can say that I was really disappointed and will avoid it in the future.
The food was delicious but I later noticed that the V Day offer was a total scam. What was labeled as “shared plates” were simply the regular size meals for double the price. Basically when you buy a shared meal you get half the food per person for double the price. That’s not my definition of “shared plates” but oh well...
I’m cool with expensive meals as long as they are amazing. I’m not cool with being tricked into paying double the prices.
We went there on Valentines Day, the meal was very expensive for the amount of food that we got. We got seated near the front window that is almost separate from the rest of the restaurant, you could not see inside just a view of Hastings street. We were not given a menu until 20 minutes into us sitting there waiting for someone to remember that they had seated us there. We were then told to choose one item per course from the Valentines day menu - this would have been fine if the portions were enough for two people but they were not. The arugula salad was literally a bowl of apples and arugula with some vinegar thrown on top. The meals looked like no effort had really been put into making them and they did not understand the amount of food expected if you are telling people to share each course. The bill came out to $150 not including the wine we ordered. Just was not worth the money overall.
Great service, yummy food, live atmosphere, great for dates or group dinners , the owner is one the nicest host I have met.
Amazing service. Fun with belly dancer. Management and server took good care of us. Highly recommend for bday and celebration.
Good service, food is ok. Quite expensive when you consider the type of food that they serve and that their rent must be very low due to the location. Ordered 2 of the exact same drinks and 1st one was good but the 2nd wasn’t food. I’d give this place a 3.5 /5
FIRST class food and service at this wonderful tiny place! The smells and spices envelop you as soon as you walk in . ... and so do the people. My (Halal) beef tangine was spicy and tender (tumeric? allspice?), sweetened with prunes. It was a big serving (could easily be shared!), but I saved enough room for date tart for dessert. Another winner! They easily accomodated my wife's gluten-free requirements.
The food and service were excellent! I would go there again.
I recently celebrated a milestone birthday here. The owner was prompt and communicative, and it was a pleasant surprise to have bubbly presented to myself and my friends when we arrived. The ambience is lovely and the bellydancer was amazing. However, the best part of our experience was definitely the atmosphere. The service was really lacking, I had to ask our server more than once to clear the plates which were piling up. I also asked him to take drink orders from my friends. A couple of side dishes didn't arrive. He was friendly enough, but seemed to know very little about what good service looks like. The food was decent but not outstanding enough to go back for.
Loved the restaurant, the music is beautiful. Would love more Moroccan music. The food was great, the tajines weren’t very flaverful, couscous wasn’t cooked properly. Was too dry. The best thing was the Bastilla.
Great ambiance especially with the belly dancer show on Saturday nights.
Food and service both very good! A request for an extended time at our table was accommodated happily. Lots of fun with the belly dancer! Would recommend any of the tangine dishes. Lamb was particularly tasty, with melt in your mouth meat and delicious sauce; plant of veg too. Try the special cocktails too. We thought it was good value for the money. Extremely helpful and friendly staff who are willing to offer suggestions.
Small space but cozy for a date or small party of 4. Lots of great food to share!
Mimo and his crew were awesome. Amazing hosts, authentic food, and an amazing atmosphere. Definitely recommend this space.
First time trying Moroccan Food. Our server was super helpful and recommended best/popular menu items and she did not steer us wrong. We tried a little bit of everything and the Halal Lamb Tagine was so delicious. To top it all off, the belly dancer was awesome and everyone had a lot of fun dancing along with her!
This is our second visit. In bit of a sketchy area but the service and food is so tasty. We brought family from Ottawa and they are still talking about the delicious flavors. Belly dancer very entertaining. We tried 3 different dishes the lamb shank fabulous. Tea and dessert nice to end the evening. Book early on weekends especially with bigger group. Will be back for sure
Maltaqa is INCREDIBLE!
We went as a large group of people, half from
Out of town, not sure what to order, and asked for recommendations and everything that was presented was delicious.
Additionally, and impressively, before we arrived, because our reservation table was so large the manager phoned to check in on allergies and assure us the proper staffing etcetera. Can’t recommend this spot enough!
Overall we enjoyed our experience a lot! Great food & ambiance & service! We will go there again and we already recommended to our friends.
Great service and fun times dancing!! Best restaurant for a bday celebration with lots of friends!
Had lunch here with a friend. The service was beyond great, the owner explained the different dishes, made great recommendations and explained how many of the products were made locally. The dishes we had; bean stew and merguez sausage were delicious. I will be back to try a tangine. A great local restaurant that provides great food at a great price.
Food came an hour after ordering. Enough said!
Food was excellent!
Warm welcoming service and accommodating. Food is delicious, healthy and beautifully presented. A civilized dining experience.
Mimo was awesome.
He recommended the Lamb Shank and it was out of this world.
The lamb shuksuka was divine.
Thai is a must just for the experience.
The food was so good and the service was attentive. We had the lamb shank, eggplant dish, soup of the day and the vegetable pastilla. Everything was delicious!
Best new restaurant in Vancouver! My coworkers loved the food and service. We'll definitely be back.
Love the food.
And the show.
And the atmosphere
Brilliant as always. We had the zaalouk, stuffed aubergine and lamb Tagine which were all excellent. The owner and servers were gracious and welcoming as always.
I have been wanting to go to Moltaqa for about 6 months so my hopes were high. Food was - good, but i was expecting more. We had Aubergine appy, apple and arugula salad and the Chicken Tagine. We had great cocktails and enjoyed the Belly Dancer. The atmosphere is gorgeous. With so many great restaurants nearby- I don’t think i would go back though. I wanted more from the food.
I love the vibe of this place as it almost feels like you are in Morocco. Their food is ok except for the lamb tajine as it was incredible (i had a taste of it from my husband as that is what he ordered). The belly dancing is really nice and interesting to watch. It was something different.
A wonderful restaurant choice for our party of six to celebrate a special birthday .Great selection of unique cocktails and a wide variety of fabulous appetizers that we shared amongst ourselves before the main course ( I especially enjoyed the vegetarian flat bread and the lamb merguez. Two members of our party are vegan / vegetarian and they very much appreciated the number of menu options to choose from - both raved about their vegan stews and soups. For the main course, tagine dishes were beautifully presented and delicious ( albeit very filling , given that we had already generously treated ourselves to a wide variety of appetizer dishes) .The decor , atmosphere ( enhanced by the presence of the belly dancer) and service were excellent.. We all agreed the restaurant was a very nice change of pace from our usual dining options.A memorable evening for all .Highly recommended.
Great find for us, enjoyed the menu, great service. Memorable meal>
Table was about 30mjns late, which threw off our entire night plans for getting into a lounge early enough after dinner!
Waitress was very nice but completely inexperienced. Couldn’t split the bill properly either and they didn’t bring my order of couscous.
Food portions were very very small, considering prices aren’t cheap! We all left very hungry afterwards, so not order the chicken as portion is ridiculously small. Better off to order lamb. Their couscous is horrible, and I have a middle eastern background!
Belly dancer was great.
Your clothes and hair will smell pretty strong after dinner their 😳
Overall we wouldn’t go back and one of the girls in the party had a stomach ache afterwards.
Incredibly tasty food. The authentic preparation and service of their food really gave an authentic experience. The place had vibrant music, gorgeous decor, an open kitchen and even a sword-toting belly dancer. Very unique experience that my party thoroughly enjoyed. It's definitely a pricey menu. You may be underwhelmed by the portion received for $30 but you can taste that all the ingredients are high quality and prepared thoughtfully.
My party and I all agreed that we would return.
Fantastic food and service! Will definitely recommend.
