Pasta was gummy. Red sauce was more cream than tomato. Caesar salad was not a caesar ... lemon juice over lettuce. Wine was way over-priced... about double a fair price for the wines on the list. Won't be going back.
I've long thought that Mollies (even back when she was in Montecito) made the best Italian food west of New York. Her food is always super good and very much classic Italian Italian. Simple, clean and scrumptious. And her Torta ai Formagio (classic Italian ricotta cheesecake) to cap the meal is the best I have ever had anywhere. It's like perfectly not-to-sweet air, it's so light and fluffy. A meal can get a bit pricey but no more than any other nice restaurant around--entrees in the $20-30 range, but adding appetizer, drinks, and desert adds up. Its our go-to place for celebration dinners.
Service was prompt and helpful. Good selection of specials. We had the artichoke appetizer which was very good. My entree was the Carbonara, which was very tasty. My spouse has the fettuccine and salmon, also outstanding. Our second visit to Mollie’s. We’ll keep coming back!
The food is the best Italian by far. Whenever I come to Santa Barbara, I have to eat at Mollie. The restaurant is such a treasurer.
We did not see any service for nearly 10 minutes & nearly 30 minutes before we saw the server. We had a reservation before an 8 pm curtain which we reminded them. I had the special artichoke salad which was abysmal, soggy & tasted preserved from a can. My husbands Caesar was lackluster. We proceeded to waited another 45 mins for entrees! Meantime we saw a number of diners who came in after us who were served 3 courses! This is our third visit since their new location & it will be our last.
By the way, the veal was over cooked & looked like a dogs dinner & the pasta was swimming in soup.
Mollie does it again in her new location... I just love her authentic Italian cooking.... she is the best !!
Love the food, service , ambiance, it all!
When we arrived our reservation was not in their system. They ended up fitting us in, don't know what happened. Food was great, service was slow and when we were ready to go so we could get to our show it took us 20 minutes to get our check and had to go to the bar and watch 2 employees argue in a different language as to where my credit card was and for us to pay and leave. The only reason to recommend is the food was very good.
An excellent meal in a lovely setting hosted by a delightful restauranteur/owner. Mollie's is terrific and so is Mollie, who spends much of her time in the dining room as well as in the kitchen. Worth the trip!!
The server was rude and not attentive. We were celebrating our 25th anniversary. A real shame, but the food was excellent.
Great dinner... great service... happy to have been able to dine at the new location.
Food was excellent. Attentive service. Mollie came out to ask how our meal was and knew what our table had ordered.
Outstanding service delicious food
From first to worst: Chef/owner came out to say hi to us, and she seemed very nice. Branzino was delicious. Apple and walnut salad was very good. Caprese salad OK, but small. Linguini w clam sause nice flavor but dry. Service chummy to the point of unprofessional. Wine list grossly overpriced.
Although Mollie's in Montecito was well established, I feel that this restaurant is still trying to find it's footing. My husband and I received menus that were incomplete and did not match one another. We had a question about the wine list, because there were two different lists in one of our menus--mine did not include a wine list. The waiter said "yeah, we have about four different wine lists" and shrugged. After ordering a bottle, we were brought the wrong wine. When it was pointed out to the waiter that it was incorrect, he stated that "no it wasn't." We had to insist that he check again and to bring us what we ordered.
The food was good, but nothing special. Mollie has the experience, but it is confusing that this place is still riding with training wheels. The wait staff is young and inexperienced and lacked sense of professionalism.
As usual, our Mollie’s experience was tasty and enjoyable. I think it’s wonderful that Mollie greets everyone sometime during the evening. My lasagna was the best and I finished every bite!
We live in the hood and love that Mollie's has moved in. We need to come more often. Next time I will call requesting your Italian Sausage specail! xoxox
The food and portions were moderate-Prices were reasonable. Good family atmosphere, cozy charming bistro type restaurant. There was a screaming young child for an extended time period. This was no fault of restaurant, but didn't help matters. The bread seemed to be lacking in flavor. Our artichoke appetizer, marinated in oil, was a bit too much oil for my taste--it seemed to hide the flavor of the vegetable. I had the meatballs and spaghetti. I did not sense anything exceptional in the spice of the meatballs, and the pasta was good. The chocolate dessert that we shared was lacking in flavor and seemed dry. I did notice tables dining on thin crust pizza that I would have liked to have tried. We did see Mollie there chatting with nearby tables. She did not extend any welcome to our table of 4, however.
We have been a fan of Mollie's from her original Montecito location. We have probably been at the State Street location about 10 times since she opened it. The food is excellent. The service attentive. And for those interested in value when Mollie moved to State Street, where the rent is less, she immediately dropped her prices significantly. Very fair, honorable family restaurant that is very good Italian food. Enjoy and say hello to Mollie as she is a people person and truly appreciates all of her customers that she is cooking for.
Very slow service. Salad was very good, but the pizza I tried was on a untasty corn-based crust. Glass of wine was tiny at $14, with 4 or 5 oz. May try again in a few months, but my first experience was disappointing.
One guest became ill from the mussels- unfortunate. The wait staff was polite but woefully under skilled and under trained to be serving at a higher end dining establishment.
One waiter scraped a plate from one plate to the other as it sat in front of him.
Excellent start to finish. Very quiet night. The food was fresh and well prepared.
I had the branzino special with tomatoes and capers.
Wouldn’t recommend! Mollie is a celebrity in the Santa Barbara area and we ate at her other location years ago and it was delicious. We were underwhelmed to say the least with our food this time.
This is the best Italian food in SB! The crepes stuffed with ricotta is absolutely outstanding.
One of the best Italian Restaurants in town. Great salads and pastas. Fresh ingredients and homemade pasta.
Our waiter was a little disoriented but very charming. Food was great. Would definitely come back and recommend to anyone visiting Santa Batbara
Lovely place. Mollie visited all the tables, which we thought was terrific. Outstanding service and waitstaff. They are very polite, well mannered, and efficient. Excellent selections.
Food was excellent. We enjoyed the new space.
Fresh pasta was divine. The server was helpful and knowledgeable with the wine selection. Love the Jake Early prints on the walls. We love Mollie’s for a neighborhood spot to have a long lingering dinner or a quick lunch.
First, and probably only, visit to Santa Barbara. Guest of some of her regulars who have a 2nd home there. Only wish was that my scheduled had allowed for a dinner menu for choices, but might have been too hard to make that decision.
AMAZING Food. best GF pasta I’ve ever had. Awesome service. I go to Mollie’s every time I’m in town!
Amazing food! The best Italian food around. Mollie is a great host and a very gifted chef.
Wonderful Wonderful Wonderful Wonderful Wonderful
Food was average at best. Pasta with shrimp and asparagus basically a mound of pasta with 3 shrimp and asparagus hard to find. Salad very wilted. Big dog next to our table although a nice dog swished it’s tail across our table. Many better Italian restaurants in Santa Barbara.
I've had wonderful food at Mollies before but this past visit was forgettable. We were seated at the worst table in the restaurant. The little one by the stairs. They should get rid of it. People brushing the table side all meal. All of the other tables are just fine. Our Ceasar salad was very ordinary. Halfway through eating our salad our pizza arrived. Very ordinary pizza was luke warm by the time we finished our salads. We had to buy a more expensive wine as the restaurant was out of the lower priced wine we wanted. I like Mollies but there are many nice restaurants in town that I'll try before going back.
Some of the best Italian food in town. Who doesn't enjoy Mollie's? Our family loves it.
Love the location next to the Granada Theater. Good food, reasonable prices...very nice.
The worst Caesar salad we've ever had. 3 different pastas were just mediocre. We will not be going back.
We had visited Mollie's once before and had a perfect dinner experience! Everything was wonderful from the greeting, the service, the food, everything! Because of this great experience we decided to have dinner at Mollie's again and we had the same exceptional experience. Mollie's will be one of our regular go to spots! We highly recommend this restaurant!
The restaurant is lovely and comfortable. The staff is very professional and very welcoming. The food is beyond excellent! Everything we have ever ordered has been absolutely delicious! Mollie, herself, makes it a wonderful experience. I wish she would open a restaurant in Scottsdale.
