I was a little disappointed in the salad this time, it seemed overdressed and too much vinegar. The rest of the food was good. It is nice that all the servers help each other so you can get a quick response if you need something. We had to ask a couple of times for our cappuccino, however, as our waiter seemed very distracted. I still recommend the restaurant and think we may have hit a bad night.
We have been to Mollies once before and really liked the pasta. The food we chose this time was only ok. The Caesar salad dressing had more minimal flavor. That is quite unusual for good Italian restaurants who usually have very flavorful Caesar’s. I tried the Pizza, and it had a nice thin crisp crust, but the marinara sauce was not flavorful and a single prosciutto slice per pizza piece did not work for me. Interestingly, the next day my leftover pizza also missed the mark. My wife’s prawn pasta was also not memorable compared to our prior visit. We were quite surprised at the food this visit.
Great lunch special of Branzino. Could not have been better. Service was both pleasant and efficient. Nice job!
A small striped bass (branzino) special with capers and olives was quite good. We sent back the pasta special (with mushrooms) because we didn’t think it was worth eating, and the butternut squash soup that replaced it was undistinguished. The Ceasar salad was equally uninteresting (no detectable anchovies and very little if any cheese on chopped bits of Romain. ) The bread also was fairly unappealing (neither crusty nor warm) and the $16 glass of Chianti seemed way overpriced. Santa Barbara has several excellent Italian restaurants about the same size, some close by, so if this incarnation of Mollie’s is going to succeed we’d think paying far more attention to food quality is in order.
Food waa delicious. I had the special lasagna which was one of the best I have tasted. Ambiance was romantic for a date or out with friends. I was on a date and Mollies made it special.
The staff was wonderful and very knowledgeable about the menu. The restaurant was not very busy, but the meal was delicious we enjoyed the ambiance
You can never go wrong with Mollie’s, from our meal, to the service, down to the ambiance- everything was outstanding! A local favorite.
The service is just not good and hasn't been since they moved downtown.
The most delicious food in an environment that feels like home. Mollie is the best!
A very pleasant dinner on a busy Mother’s Day night. Service was prompt and attentive. Entrees were fabulous. I wish the salads had been more substantial. A little romaine, a few croutons, no Parmesan and little sauce on my Cesar salad, that was surprising. This being said, the sea bass was grilled to perfection, the steamed and sautéed vegetables done just right. We will be sure to come back and experience more of the menu, especially the many vegetarian dishes.
Went with my girlfriends to celebrate my birthday. Loved the food and service. I highly recommend if your in town to check it out.
I was in Santa Barbara for 4 nights and ate at Mollie’s 3 of those nights! That should say it all! Food is fantastic! Salads and pasta dishes amazing. Mollie comes to every table and she is a lovely and talented woman. Wait staff was great, especially Hailey. Would go again and again!
One waitress for the whole place....way understaffed.......too bad, otherwise would have been a nice experience. Maybe someone called in sick at the last minute but the service was not good.
Everyone was very welcoming when we arrived and set up the heater for us so we could sit outside. Our server, while very nice and personable, forgot our wine until the entire meal was out. She later sent a server assistant to grab our signed checks, making us feel like a bother for being there. The food, while reasonably priced for Santa Barbara is honestly, not good at all. It lacks flavor and creativity.
Absolutely fantastic !
Dinner before theater. We were served promptly and had plenty of time to enjoy our meal.
Mollie is the perfect hostess. From warmly greeting you to checking on your food. Her reputation is well deserved.
Mollie was the highlight of the night. She came over to our table several times and brought our kids ice cream on the house at the end of the meal. It made for a special evening.
Even though we made a reservation, we still had to wait over 20 minutes to get seated. Then, our table was never actually assigned a waiter. We had to ask random waitstaff for everything we needed throughout the meal. Only upside was free tiramisu for our birthday. The good was decent but not worth the terrible service.
Ravioli di zucca and ossobuco were ordinary, service was good Best was that it was quiet for conversation.
We came prior to a lecture at the Granada Theater next door about 5:30 pm. Talk about convenience! We were seated quickly, then our server came within a minute...literally. We were starving and waiting for our friends to arrive. By the way the servers were very pleasant and professional. We ordered the salmon appetizer; it was a sashimi piece wrapped around a delicate cheese and served on a bed of sprouts. Delicious. Arrived within 10 minutes of ordering. One of us had the branzino which was fantastic, another ordered the meatballs, again fantastic, and 2 of us ordered veal piccata which was not over cooked, which is typical at most restaurants that serve thinly sliced veal. We were out of the restaurant by7:15 pm with plenty of time to get to our seats next door. When we next visit Santa Barbara we will definitely return.
Had a birthday lunch here and ordered Mollie's pasta carbonara which wasn't on the lunch menu. They were happy to make it anyway, and it didn't disappoint. Probably THE best pasta carbonara in town. We had great service from our waiter. Thoroughly enjoyed my birthday lunch at Mollie's!
Good cuisine and Grazie per dolce!
Food was delicious and service fantastic!
Always a treat! We are regular diners at Mollie's any are always impressed by the quality and great flavors in the food. If you haven't been, you are missing out.
The food is outstanding! Portions are ample. Service and timing a bit rough, but improving. Wine was excellent, but more choice of Italian whites would be welcome. We will definitely be back to try more dishes.
Mollie, the owner, is a true original and it is great to support someone who is hands on.
We have been customers since Trattoria Mollie was located in Monecito and were sad to hear that they had to close after the fires and mudslides. When we read that they had relocated in Santa Barbara we were so happy to be able to enjoy the amazing food and outstanding service again!
The main thing that was disconcerting is the table was cleared as soon as our Forks were down and no one asked if there was anything else we would like to eat like dessert or have coffee. Then, I was surprised when the owner and Chef came out and she was bussing tables but did not take time to ask this how our meal nor visit while when she cleared a few remaining items from our table. I was too surprised to say anything. There may be other circumstances like short-staffed Etc but it was a surprise and uncomfortable.
I would recommend Mollie for the food. The service was below average. It was the first time that I was at Mollie’s to eat. The server was very impatient with us ordering. He was not a good listener . I ordered a Caesar salad it came with my meal instead of before and it had no Parmesan cheese on top. Then when I ordered dessert I asked for ice cream with chocolate sauce on top. They brought me my ice cream with no sauce. They said that they would go get it and by the time they brought it back my ice cream was melting.
Great Italian restaurant next to the Granada. They even hold your boxed dinner so you can pick it up after the theater.
We were party of 4 and one of the main dishes (Branzino) came out practically cold. Just barely warm. Not how a fish is to be served. However, very accommodating and charming Owner/hostess Mollie and our waitress was super efficient and did it all right. Food came w/o any delays and restaurant was at 90% full.
It was our fifth visit, but our first at the new location on State Street. As always, the food was terrific. The branzino special was fanstastic. One of the best fish dishes we have had in recent years. Fine vegetables, great tiramisu. The waiter is a lovely person, very engaging.
We go every time we're in Santa Barbara without fail.
Dinner was lovely and the service was exceptional. Lovely staff. The only negative was the email I received from OpenTable telling me I should have canceled my reservation as I didn't show up.
But I did show up. So being berated by Open Table for my bad manners was kind of unpleasant.
Nice dinner with the fam. Food was delicious and the service was great too. Nice location on state street.
Mollie's personal touch and the quality of wait staff are just the beginning. The food is delightfully authentic - right from a fresh farm, garden to kitchen to table. It is as if you are visiting Mollie's home!
Best tasting Italian food I've ever had, and Mollie personally goes from table to table to insure that all are happy!
Delicious as always! Bravo Mollie!!
The food was quite good. The service was decent but not outstanding. The main problem I have is with the noise level: not as loud as some but kind of annoying. (I understand that is the current zeitgeist of the restaurant biz but quieter would be better.)
I would return but not if I really wanted a good conversational dinner with friends.
The salads were very good but small for the price. The meatballs are excellent, but if you order them with vegetables- expect very few vegetables.
Pizza's are good and are a generous serving.
