Mole Y Abuela Tampa
Pleasant atmosphere on a busy downtown Saturday Good tapas and service
Wait time was extremely long. The server was nice but for the price paid I expected better. Limited tapas options as well
What a great discovery! Great tapas! We ordered several dishes that were very good - the lamb meatballs, manchego plate, stuffed peppers, and the papas bravas were amazing! The only disappointing dish was the pan con tomate y jambon as I expected the bread to be grilled with an olive oil and garlic rub, but it was barely toasted and cold. Not bad, just not what I was expecting based on past experience. The decor was fabulous, but it was REALLY loud, and it wasn't even full. They were slower than I expected for a Sat night in downtown and I hope they survive. I'll definitely be back!
I was a huge fan of Fly, which was so convenient to the Tampa Theatre, the Straz Center, and, even, Stageworks. I went there for years. I like Mole y Abuela almost as well. The food is generally really good, but sometimes it's a little off; once I got the corn dish served on the cob but other times it's been off the cob and once I got the bread with ham and tomato ice cold but other times it's been more palatable. I really miss Fly's amazing sangria. I also miss the happy hour specials that Fly had. Otherwise, I like Mole y Abuela a lot and will continue to go there, at least in nice weather. Like Fly, it's too noisy inside.
A delicious and creative meal. We enjoyed the "nacho" dish, but you must enjoy spicy foods, too. The corn was an improvement from our first visit as it was off the cob. It was so good. The croquets were tasty as was the pork belly with dates. We will be back because there were other menu items we wanted to try.
The amount and quality of the food for the price is not equal. The tuna crudo was very bland and the carne asada portion was very small for $35. The server was very nice but she was overwhelmed as the only server on the rooftop with a party of 30 and several other small tables. The management staff was nowhere to be seen to help.
Stopped in early to try happy hour. The place was empty. We quickly learned why. Happy hour offered only a skimpy few items and the drinks were micro sized. However the restaurant was very nicely restored, the staff was exceptionally friendly and beautiful. So we settled in for dinner. A few more customers scampered in. The waitress was super pleasant and the menu was interesting. But the fancy terms and high prices were are a bit much for the Tampa crowd. Overall the food was good with a nice use of homemade sauces and smears. I don’t think we will return unless it is for happy hour if the restaurant learns to simplify the menu a bit and serve drinks that are more crowd pleasing. We wish you the best as we taste our way through Tampa.
What a delightful evening I spent on the rooftop of this lovely restaurant. As the sun set in the west, I enjoyed the Mole Margarita, a speciality cocktail of the house; Elotes, a delicious grilled corn tapa, and Gambas Al Ajillo, a flavorful lemon, garlic shrimp small plate. Ballad was the effervescent bartender/wait staff who ably assisted me throughout the evening. I will return!
Service was terrible. There were only a few tables in the restaurant and we waited for over ten minutes for our server to even acknowledge us. Server then disappeared numerous times for long periods of time. We had to finally ask the hostess for our check so we could leave. Won’t go back.
This has become a favorite of ours; it is worth the drive across the bay from our home in N. Pinellas. Parking is on-street or in commercial-pay lots. The drive, the parking is all worth it, however. Clean, minimalist decor; the corner location means glass on two sides and a open feel to the place. Their menu has a wide range of selections from tapas to small(!) plates (not small - they are "sharing plate" servings) to entres with a Spanish/Mediterranean focus. We consistently order more than we can eat; enticed by the variety of selections on the menu - and we have yet to say, "that wasn't so good; we won't order that again". No, our dilemma is FOMO - if we order this again next time; what else will we be missing out on? The saving grace is they have very good take-home packaging and your server will effortlessly (for us) pack it all up. The modest wine list has a nice selcetion of both New World and Old World wines; both bottles and by-the-glass - we thought we knew our Spanish wines but on this visit, we "discovered" verdejo and now we have a new crisp, white wine to look for when we go shopping for wine. Service is very good - friendly, attentive, and competent. These folks seem to do it all right.
Too noisy inside, had to seat outside. Table was not leveled and moving constantly.
Foods taste was good
Waitress left for long periods constantly.
Had to go inside to ask for service several times.
Coffee was served cold.
Waitress forgot desert
Not a good experience
Great dinner with friends! Chicarrones are the best!
Everything was perfect. The food is outstanding.
Celebrated our anniversary here and it was amazing! The staff were so friendly and helpful, and the food was next level!
This is now a family favorite location.
We had a wonderful experience. Our server was very knowledgeable and made some great suggestions.
Kyle our waiter was great. Food was great as always. Never been disappointed when you have eaten there. It was nice to meet Fabio.
Good stuff, the eggs were terrific. Good mezcal too
Service was really bad. Our waitress literally came by a handful of times, drinks should never stop flowing!! Food was good but I think the service usually makes for a recommendation and the service just left a bad taste.
The food was very good. We had mostly tapas or appetizers. The wine was the problem. My friend ordered Champagne, and it was served room temperature and flat. We sent it back expecting another chilled bottle, but when the food started to arrive we asked about the wine and were told they had put it in the freezer to cool it down. We said no, bring us a white wine instead. (the reds are all stored unchilled, which is not good in Florida.) I had ordered a dish of Lomo from the menu, but when it arrived it was something else. We were told they didn't have the Lomo and had chosen to substitute. Not cool. Most of all, the noise level is intolerable. 2 of us had headaches when we left. Not cool. Overall, the food was worth another visit, and I would urge folks to try it. But it was a disappointing evening for the 4 of us.
Way too much money for the amount of food served.
We had an enjoyable evening with great food. The service was good. Bring a jacket as it can get a little chilly.
I️ like brunch at this place a lot better than dinner. Dinner ambiance isn’t good. I’m not sure why so many people don’t go to this place it always seems empty I’m not sure why
Food is good. Not a lot for your money. Drinks are terrible. If I pay $ 14 for a margarita it better be good but this tequila is bad. Best bet is bartaco!!!
Our waitress Asia gave excellent service but unfortunately she had a mixup in our order and the food for 4 people came out at different times and the first plate was cold by the time we were all served. There were only three table filled in the restaurant and we did not understand the long wait. It took a long time for her to bring our check which was wrong and had to be adjusted twice.
We loved that Fly Bar was replaced by something with a Spanish flair and were not disappointed! We enjoyed the cheese selection, the chorizo Iberico and shrimp along with red sangria. We were pleasantly surprised when they brought us complimentary stuffed peppers. Pay $6 for valet parking (or else $12!) and sit outside under the ample awning- it sounded energetically boisterous but too loud inside.
A bit loud by the bar, but manageable. Food was excellent, but since it’s Tapa’s very little, and with the high price, didn’t make us want to purchase some items.. one example is the thin sliced sausage, it was about 1 mm thin and $8, so not worth it. Make it $3-4 and I’d order a lot more.. would suggest pricing lower to draw more demand, will most likely make people over order.
To loud we can’t talk
overall it was okay. not out of the park in any aspect. the food is edible. the roof is cool which is the only reason I would ever go back.
Absolute worst dining experience I have ever had in Tampa we waited over 30 minutes to get drinks never got our food and the waitress was clearly out of it
Waitress dropped the ball on a few of the requests.
The restaurant is attractive with a hip vibe. The location is in an up and coming location downtown close to the Tampa Theater . The food was very very good and reasonably priced. My friends and I were there for lunch. We were very impressed. I had the avocado toast. It was delicious! We looked at the dinner menu. It looked great!
We plan to return for dinner soon..
Great food and atmosphere. Like the Mediterranean + Spanish vibe. Slightly pricey, and temperature inside was freezing lol. Will definitely go back, but take a jacket lol!
Maria took great care of us.
Great food for a once in a while
Delicious food and sangria! We all shared the tapas, 8 plates were enough for 6 adults! Will definitely be back!
Celebrated my birthday here and everyone did a great job to make this dining experience so special and great!!
Our appetizers arrived before our 1st drink. We had 3 servers come to our table to offer us water. We planned to stay for dinner, but after ordering appetizers that were mediocre at best for the price, we decided to dine elsewhere.
