Due to its tumultuous history under different regimes, names and occupations, Moldova has a rich cultural tapestry, the cuisine being a main component of the transition. With influences from its neighbors: Romania and Ukraine, a little from Turkey and Bulgaria, some from Russia and even the Mediterranean countries, Moldovan cuisine offers a variety of tastes and flavors.
With spices, herbs and various types of produce and meats, our dishes combine these flavors to create real masterpieces, giving an incredible result for a well-balanced meal.

Had a lovely meal and service was very attentive. My entree was quite large and I had enough for another meal. When I got home there was an email waiting for me that the restaurant had cancelled my reservation. Since I had checked in upon arrival and paid with credit card, I called and they remembered me and said not to worry. An email to Open Table solved the problem.
great neighborhood gem with good food and friendly staff
Nice to try something different and interesting. The quality was great and I'm looking forward to returning.
Loved trying a different menu. Enjoyed the homey, casual, comfortable atmosphere and the relaxed pace of eating. We had brunch and will definitely go back for dinner. I’ve already shared the experience with friends.
The food was excellent, but if you are thinking about the craft beer, ask for a sample first (more on that later). Four of us started on the PLĂCINTĂ CU CARTOF (Traditional pan fried pie with potatoes) appetizer which was unique and very good. I had the FRIPTURĂ DE GĂINĂ (roasted chicken stewed in broth with onions and garlic) which was excellent and very tender. I sampled the FRIPTURĂ DE PORC which was also very tender.
I had a flight of four of the five craft beers (all but the IPA), and was not crazy about any of them - they all seemed to have a slight aftertaste. But the bottled Czech light and dark lagers were both fantastic!
The food was great and very good value. This is not fine dining but a great place to go for a casual dinner
Good food, especially the pies and the crepes. Didn’t love the ground pork sausages. The lamb ones are ok, and the chicken are probably the best. Love the cabbage salad and the stuffed cabbage and grape leaves were all right but not spectacular. Would go back but be more selective on what we order. They did do a nice job with a requested substitution for vodka in a specialty drink instead of gin and they were very amenable.
Moldovan food just doesn't taste that good to me. Everything was fine, it's just the nature of the cuisine from that region. Maybe if you grew up with it...
Everything was great, but our server seemed a little overwhelmed. She was quite helpful, but she never brought our bill to us until we could flag her down after not seeing her for 15 minutes.
Went for Easter dinner. Lovely mementos from Moldova for sale. We were only ones in separate dining area, so not much ambience. All food was excellent from cheese pie appetizer & chicken soup to entrees of roast lamb w veggies, sausage & chicken dish. We had to order about 5 different wines before they could find one they had & it was in storage so was very cold for red wine. But food made up for it.
Excellent freshly cooked food. Everything was a treat -- appetizer cheese pies are light and delicious. Lamb dish entrees great -- especially roast lamb with vegetables. But the chocolate crepe cake was outstanding. This place is a real find.
Delicious food. We wanted to try something new and our party of 4 all enjoyed it. We got the meat and side samplers to share plus a cabbage pie; it was just the right amount of food. Looking forward to going back another time.
This was my 4th visit. I brought friends who enjoyed it too. Food has always been excellent. Good wines. We were there on a Friday night and had the pleasure of live music too. We will continue going to Moldova.
Discovered this restaurant by chance and are glad that we went there. The food is interesting and excellent. We enjoyed the shepherds salad, baked lamb, crepes with chicken and mushrooms, and lamb kabobs. The deserts are remarkably good: baked to order thin apple pie was excellent. The best part of the meal was the sour cherry crepes with whipped cream and powdered chocolate on top.
Service was excellent. Will go back and will recommend this place to friends.
The food is very tasty and authentic. Very good quality.
We found this place on Open Table an decided to experiment. We were greeted and seated efficiently. Our server was from Moldova and was able to explain a little about the food and customs. Although the menu was somewhat limited, everything we ordered came fast, but we did not feel rushed. The food was fresh, delicious and the dessert was decadent. We will return to try some of the other offerings.
We enjoyed our dinner as the food was well prepared and the portions were very generous. The restaurant needs more ambiance and the staff needs better training though they were extremely nice and were non stop buzzing around. Our waitress never wiped down our table before taking off for the evening without any notice which was odd. For the price they're commanding for dinner, the experience should be a little more momorable and their staff should be refined.
We are really lucky to have a gem like Moldova in Newton, and particularly here in Nonantum. I may be biased because I live just down the street, but I think it is worth for anywhere from any town to come here. When my family visit me from California, they always want to go there. I am in awe of and appreciate their homemade everything. My mother (from Indian) makes everything from scratch, and she absolutely loves this place! It is an absolute must try!
Amazing food and service. Could not have asked for a better experience. Will definitely be back. We had some of the samplers this time and everything on it was superb. Very tender lamb. Perfectly spiced.
One of the best places I visited in the last year
Food is amazing , the waitress the kindest and sweetest person we met
Food is amazing. Dessert was worth the drive alone.
Cocktails were fun. If you haven't been, you need to go
A very enjoyable experience; not a big menu but a very tasty food, a pleasant nicely decorated place.
Wonderful food and desserts! Delicious all around!
This is a fabulous place to go for dinner with friends. Make sure you try one of the non-traditional pies- we recommend the cabbage and the cheese!
Moldova has a very interesting menu. Everything was very good, and the portions are very large! We especially enjoyed the chicken noodle soup, the mushroom and chicken crepes, and the roast chicken. Our server was efficient and patient with our many questions. Ambiance is that of a friendly neighborhood bistro. Parking is free and immediately behind the restaurant.
This traditional Moldovan cuisine is a rare treat. Our server suggested a native merlot, a delicious surprise. We grazed with a few appetizers. Try the dumplings. Yum. Several ordered chicken sausages, served with baked potatoes. I had grape and cabbage leaves stuffed with chicken and rice, topped with sour cream, a mild nourishing dish that I would never make myself. We shared one order of cherry crepes that were devoured quickly. We'll go back on Thur night to hear the music and try something different. Free parking in the rear is a bonus.
This is a lovely little place for some Eastern European food of a variety I had not tried before. The food is tasty and the service is excellent. We enjoyed the placinta with cheese, picked vegetables and sarmale (stuffed cabbage or grape leaves). It's fun and unusual. I would say for a casual place it is pricey.
Everything was great, but I hope they will put a curtain up by the back door to keep some of the cold air out this time of year. Food was delicious and enough for delicious leftovers.
outstanding place. a small family restaurant with interesting and well prepared food.
A delightful surprise-- great food and service. Looking forward to coming again.
This was our first visit to Moldova, but it won't be our last. It's a charming small restaurant in Newton with ample parking in the rear. The food is Eastern European and very interesting. We especially liked the chicken and mushroom crepes, the lamb stew, and the apple pie. Portions were very large and prices reasonable. Our server was efficient and very helpful, important when the dishes are unfamiliar.
This is a neighborhood vibe, with good food, wine, and service. Glad we found it!
I love the eggplant just like one made by my Romanian grandmother earlier in this century.
The food is prepared well and there are vegan and gf choices. This is a nice place to go for a bit of authentic creative cuisine.
Great and delicious European style food .
Brand new facility , friendly staff.
We really enjoyed our first visit to Moldova which features unusual and tasty East European food. The food was generally very good, the young server was earnest and very helpful, and the proprietor very friendly. Not every dish was great, but all were good and we really loved the Placinta (traditional pie) with cheese as an appetizer. The Friptura (roasted lamb ) was incredibly tender, and the lamb kebabs (ground lamb) were absolutely delicious. They came with amazing pan-fried potatoes. Everybody at the table wanted more of those. Moldovan red wine was very good too, although not cheap.
The place is a large storefront that looks to have been recently expanded, with high ceilings. The tables are well spaced and the place lacks any real "buzz," but the Saturday night we were there a man played a keyboard and sang American songs like Walking in Memphis. A little incongruous but he was pretty good! Our young server helped guide us to the most authentic and interesting dishes -- very helpful. This is a real gem -- not sure why it isn't packed all the time. We plan to return soon!!
Delicious authentic food combined with a very nice atmosphere
If you like Eastern European food you will enjoy Moldova!
Authentic Rumanian( Moldova was part of Rumania before) food.
The food and service were amazing! I love that you can try something new with their authentic dishes and feel like you’re part of their family! Highly recommended!!
Good but overpriced.
There was one waitress and she seemed overworked or overwhelmed, probably a bit inexperienced. The food was too salty. Smaller portions and lower price would be better. The ambience was good but the music got a bit tiring, with the same songs or similar songs cycling over and over.
Thank you very much for sharing this information with us George. We'll definitely look into it and make sure this doesn't happen in the future. We hope to see you again soon.
